She's adorable and exactly how one would imagine. She reminds me of my granny from Krakow and both were born in 1923, although my granny lived to be 92, not 89. I'm a poet too and discovered we write in a bit similar way and we both lost our dads when we were teenagers. (Urocza! Bardzo mi przypomina moja babcie, tez z Krakowa.)

I love this woman and her poetry. Too bad there's no way I could meet her now to tell her how beautiful she is both on the inside and the outside. She's pure perfection if it weren't for her smoking but she's the queen either way! Wislawa, Poland misses and loves you so much!
@martinharris73395 жыл бұрын
You meet her and communicate with her by reading her poetry. (The smoking is part of the perfection!)
@Tiffany-rr3vf5 жыл бұрын
@@martinharris7339 That's right! By and large, I don't mind her smoking but sometimes I just think that she was harming herself by that and that's why I said that. Anyway, she is perfect 😅❤

this is wonderful to see. what's the name of the video it's from?
@martinharris73397 жыл бұрын
It's from a Dutch documentary called "End and Beginning: Meeting Wisława Szymborska" ("Koniec i początek. Spotkanie z Wisławą Szymborską"). There's a trailer here: vimeo.com/41003300 And some more information here where you can order the DVD: www.oogland.com/index.php?id=4&project=31 I used to have the whole documentary in Polish only. I added subtitles to this clip and used it in a lesson with a student I was teaching Polish.

Szymborska was a declared Polish communist during the worst period of Stalinism. She even wrote a poem for Stalin. An average poet promoted by the communist regime.
@martinharris7339 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps at that time she was an average poet. But I believe she later renounced her earlier political poetry. Her later work, for which she is celebrated, is quite different.
@zuben1245 Жыл бұрын
@@martinharris7339 Later, she did not write about communism, because it was not profitable for her. In fact, she made up for the propaganda approach to poetry, but she still wrote on average. Compared to Zbigniew Herbert, her poetry was only ok.
