Thought it was odd that he said "nor should schools have metal detectors" I think we can all agree that schools shouldn't HAVE TO have metal detectors, but to take such a strong statement that schools shouldn't have them at all is interesting. Why is there such a strong opposition to metal detectors or security in schools? We care about celebrities, politicians, money, and jewelry so much that we protect them with armor plated vehicles and guns. All that said, the police chief handled a tragic situation as well as you could have.

Plenty of young people are completely responsible to carry firearms for a variety of purposes. The limitations on age are simply not present in the states that I am aware of. Example, Until age 14, a minor must be supervised when handling a firearm. MN Meaning under 14 is good, but needs supervision. 14 and older does not. This also implies a great deal of people that are younger to utilize them. I would argue that 99.9% of gun holder will never aim it at another human. WI does limit hunting usage to 12. And general carrying to 18. Creating felonies will not stop school incidents. They would balk at such a law. Federal law provides no minimum age for the possession of long guns or long gun ammunition. Only pistols at 18
