@@Tonysparkt1507 A Hindu can refer to practically anything. Hindus believe all sorts of things. Hinduism is actually a collection of several different religions. You can be a Shaivite, or a Shakta worshiping Durgadevi. You can even be a Mayavadi atheist, and still be a considered a Hindu. To call someone a Hindu is more or less a meaningless term. It’s like calling a Jew, a Christian, or a Muslim for, say, a Jordanist. In ISKCON we are Vaishnavas, and we like to emphasize the one Supreme God, rather than any of the demigods. Regarding the term Hinduism, Srila Prabhupada said different things. One time he said, we are not Hindus, and another time he said - we are the real Hindus. It should also be noted that the words Hindu or Hinduism are nowhere to be found in the Vedic litrature. The word Hindu was invented by invading Muslims, who called people on the east side of the river Sindhu for Hindus. The original religion of the Vedas is called sanatana-dharma, or the eternal religion, and that is Vaishnavism.

@@nalacox3406 In Hinduism Om is a supreme and his assistant are Brahma ( Creator), Vishnu ( preserver ) and shiv ( destroyer) and reincarnation of vishnu are krishna so you can call Krishna as a supreme God because Krishna as a essence of supreme God 'OM' and you said about Sanatan Dharma sects are Shaiv, vaishnav and shakt. 1) Vaishnav ( Followers of Vishnu and his reincarnation are Krishna) 2) Shaiv ( Followers of Lord shiva and his reincarnation of Hanuman ) 3) Shakt ( Followers of NAU Durga female god) And this all sects under Supreme God 'OM' ( formless) and Sanatan Dharma is Monothestic religion.

@@Tonysparkt1507 As I mentioned in my comment, where the origin of the word “Hindu/Hinduism” came from. The word “Hindu” is simply a term used for people living in the region between Himalayas and Bindu Sara. Sanatana Dharma declined gradually after rule of Parikshit Maharaj and Bharat. Nepal and other regions situated within Himalayas and Bindu Sara were the only regions left practicing Sanatana Dharma thus the term Hindu became a synonym for Sanatana Dharma but in reality it's only for people of a specific region, not name of the religion itself. In short anyone who lives between the geographical region of Himalayas and Bindu Sara attains the name “Hindu”. The real name for the religion of Vedic Dharma is Sanatana Dharma.
