So, so you think you can tell Heaven from hell? Blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk-on part in the war For a leading role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl Year after year Running over the same old ground What have we found? The same old fears Wish you were here Songwriters: Roger Waters / David Gilmour

I have only had those three people who ever loved me like they did and I am now quite alone, no relatives on my dads side and I was never really aquatinted with my Moms family as I was adopted at age 7 and never seen them. My dad’s best friend passed away a few years ago. My dad had been friends with him since they were young kids and had been inseparable since. He was the sweetest and kindest man knew. I always remember fondly staying at his house for sleepovers and collecting eggs from his chickens, and playing games outside with his kids. This was the song that played at his funeral. Whenever the song comes on, my dad plays it full volume, yelling out the lyrics for the world to hear. He’s got the album cover tattooed on his back, and I drew two little ghosts in a fish bowl, which he plans to get tattooed as well. I’ll miss you Drew, you the greatest, the funniest and the kindest guy I’ll ever meet ❤️❤️❤️

I always found this track to be one of the most emotionally impactful pieces I've ever heard, when you really think about what the lyrics mean and feel the tone of the song building with those realizations, its hard not to be flooded with emotion and get swept up in it. I've watched a lot of Frank's covers, and I love that certainly in this particular instance you can tell he's making the same emotional connection to the song. Seems like he is getting swept up in its beauty like the rest of us, and reflecting on the long and fantastic life he's lived on this earth. I hope to be able to enjoy that same precious meaning, emotion, and reflection when I reach his age, listening back on this musical masterpiece.
