I really appreciate Mark Abrahams' playing, very fluid and emotional, he is certainly a worthy successor to Ted Turner and the other players who have filled those shoes next to Andy. Way to go Andy and friends, you are keeping this flame alive with a lot of class and that touch of real passion that brings me back to the memories of 1973 when I saw the original line-up play in the US Midwest. You should be proud of your amazing creative accomplishments.

I've often told people my first time seeing Wishbone Ash was at Met Sports center in Bloomington MN opening for the headliner...after seeing these guys walk out in '70s white suits (except Steve, in his denim cutoff bibs and orange and white socks), Flying V, Rickenbacker bass, Orange amps... The first riff from the first song of the first side of the first album...I was a Wishbone Ash fan right there...off to the record store.... Been a fan and have almost all the albums.... I still don't remember who the headliner was...

Clever---I don't remember 'WHO' the headliner was.......I honestly had a moment or two where I thought I might be crushed when that insane crowd of WHO fanatics rushed the stage and swept me {5'3"-125 lbs.) along with it....SCARY!! WA wasn't even mentioned on the ticket (still have the stub)...When we saw those ORANGE amps being placed on stage ---OH, SHIT--could it be? I've seen them many times around the Midwest over the last 53 years and they never disappoint.....😜

I like how the instrumental parts in "Phoenix" sound suspiciously like The Grateful Dead's "The Other One" psychedelic tour-de-force. Gotta go back & listen to some older Ash to see if that shows up there too. Coincidence perhaps? Like Miles Davis & Ian Carr existing at the same time doing the same thing but - possibly - never cross pollinating?

So right around 1970 or so I was still buying MUNTZ 4 Track Tapes that were knock offs of records. So, the Label didn't have 'Wishbone Ashe's' Label or info. I've been a Wishbone Ash for 50 years but sorry, there is something lacking now. Andy's vocals just don't live up to those of ex-vocalist and founder member Martin Turner. And the instrumentation, whilst perfectly fine it lacks dynamism. It's such a shame. I really do think Martin Turner's current band is the one that truly evokes the WA sound and dynamism from all those years ago. 'Throw Down The Sword' and 'Sometime World' are my absolute favourite WA tracks, but this current band just cannot cut it I'm afraid.
@williamauld40832 ай бұрын
It's pretty obvious Powell has been determined to remove Martin Turner's element that was crucial to what Wishbone Ash music was all about. He has a tight drum and bass backing with the emphasis on him and his sidekick other twin guitarist.
@keithf_2 ай бұрын
@williamauld4083 yes I don't care much for Powell's WA these days, although I have to say the Coat of Arms album was pleasant enough. I'm content to wallow in WA albums circa 1970-1976, apart from the truly awful Locked In

Interesting, I thought they would have a heavier sound. Maybe they tone it down for smaller venues.
@BackToTheBlues2 жыл бұрын
I've seen them at The Brook in Southampton many times, which isn't a big venue, and the sound has been heavier than this. I'm wondering if it sounds a little clean and sterile because we're not hearing the 'room'.
@tomlayman31412 жыл бұрын
I agree. I kept feeling the sound wasn't punchy enough. Kind of weak. Great musicianship though and the somewhat new drummer is doing a great job. I hate to say it but they really need to drop their new stuff, too mellow. They have a catalogue of great rockers that they need to tap into. Supposed to be a ROCK concert after all. I think Andy is mellowing with age. Would love to here Mark Abrams jam more to some of their harder stuff.
