I never had a Cummings but I always heard they were cheaper to rebuild or I'll try to find another one like it and have me a real nice Parts truck

When mine went I experienced a knock my front end gearing was destroyed, crank shaft got destroyed as well. Drop the oil pan.......the end result will speak for itself. Hopefully the crank shaft is okay. My truck came off a big fleet of trucks, crappy oil maintenance won't end well. In my experience when a Cummins of this caliber starts to burn oil it will need a inframe very soon

Put a tarp over the cab of the truck for shade and park you second truck in front and rope the tarp off you get some shade out of that .done this a few times when working on trucks and trailers

Your video’s are not like other, yours has a certain flair to them. It’s amazing how much knowledge you have amassed over the years Martin. Ya know something that’s not talked about on your videos much is the love that you both have for each other. It’s very evident in all of your videos. i commented last week that the noise sounded up top and it still does but after hearing it run a little longer i hear a deep rumbling sound and it is probably coming from the bottom.i hope its not. if i lived a little closer i would help you but i live in delaware. home of everybodys favorite person.

I’m comparing it to an 80’s big cam Cummins 🫣so not sure how that would compare to yours but my rod broke at the piston and luckily stayed in the liner instead of going through the block 👍sounds similar. But totally different engine I understand 😎Rickster

1st of all, hope you find the problem soon. 2nd maybe rent a party tent to go over you while you work. 3rd maybe rent or get a borescope and take a peek inside, lower end. Also then peek into each cylinder.

Hi martin, my uncle took all the cap bolts to cummins and they x-rayed them and admitted they had a bad batch where the treads weren't harded enough. He rebuilt this motor about 3 years ago so i don't know where that lands with when yours was rebuilt.

while you may have worked on engines that had fuel knock in the past from injectors the missing rocker arm eliminates that on common rail engines, the pressure 8-30 thousand psi is stored in it and the ecm injector driver circuit pops the injectors off up to 7 times per power stroke, they use egr gasses to lower the combustion temps below 2600 degrees to lower and keep nox in levels to met emission standards, the pan needs to come off, if you do any repairs make sure and put a new oil cooler on it, the metal will trap in it and waste your engine later on when it all comes loose, stop running it before you grenade the cylinder and destroy the block.

I’ve had 12v Cummins injector knock before, I don’t mean spring knock. I mean fuel knock as in fuel constantly being injected at the wrong time. But I agree, it did sound quite a bit different in person than on camera. The engine is out now and apart.

Hey Martin, the best of luck to you with your repairs. I noticed you included for the dd15 and made a comment it's made overseas. Sorry it's me right here in good old motor City the dd15 with all components is made on the line of Redford township in Detroit the whole North American daimlerchrysler that owns Detroit Diesel is right here in Michigan. My friends that work at Detroit Diesel confirmed the EGR is made here in the US. Sorry, motor City proud!

MARTIN man back awhile ago you showed on video about cleaning your small pipe that comes off bottom of high pressure sensor I always clean those every couple hundred KMS..cause people thats a perfect example on this video of SUTT build u[p and the high pressure sensor pipe is only the size of a pen tube....LEARN YOUR SHIT...and great job guys..

That knock is too slow to be piston or bottom end related, it’ll be something bolted on that has either busted a bolt or come loose.And it actually starts and runs reasonably smoothly, I assume it doesn’t blow smoke either. My guess is that repair won’t be too major. But let’s see , I am waiting with baited breath to find out the outcome. Alice hurry up and get that diagnosis vlog out.

Is this the truck that spun a bearing?, if the crank will regrind, if not too badly damaged, can be ground in situ, I remember a long time ago we had a guy come and do one on an old Magirus Duatz? air cooled engine here in the UK.

Started to grind it but the crank lost hardness in a spot so we’re not going to reuse it.

I’m thinking it’s a lower end problem. Sounds like a rod knock. Got a feeling if you pull the pan it’ll be there to see. Hope it doesn’t need a in frame done on it.

Don't look good. There's a guy in Fontana. They have two shops. They do a lot of rebuilt motors of any kind. And they sell rebuilt rebuilt motors. A lot of guys that have older trucks. As you know they can't be on the road. So they pull those Motors out and they put the newer style woke rapping. I think it's jacks or J's trucks repair. I know it's on Guadalupe Avenue. I've seen this other KZbin gal she uses them all the time. She drives a yellow Pete call Bandido. They do cat Motors everything yes even Pack cars. But they are Mexicans. They do speak English. Broke rod one time right by the piston 🫣of course it was a big cam 400 Cummins from 1981. Rebuilt it doing in frame tore it down on Friday night and exchanged the heads “ 3 back then” and got the a rebuild kit for around 1,000& 😂🫣with the help of my mechanic friend we used in our shop for bigger things we worked our butts off and I rolled out Monday morning 👍tired as hell but that’s the way it was back then 👍Martin is old school like we were just little newer equipment that is electronic and computers 🤨 😎Rickster. It had its pluses but I drove home one time with no electric to anything just screw in the pump screw and got loader to push start me headed to the shop before dark and had my running buddy follow me to cover not having brake lights or blinkers 🤘🤘😎Rickster
