That was something i noticed about most of the players in here. The acting was SO strong. I especially liked Carlotta, and i have NEVER really cared much about her character before. But the actress here brought so much to the character with mere facial expressions. I also really liked how Ramin uses a fake accent at the start of "past the point of no return" to sell that he was Piangi, and slowly drops the accent as the facade drops... Very subtle stuff details that are really fantastic.

The violin at the start is so perfect (as loads of other people have said in the comments). Not only because she’s visiting her violinist father’s grave, but because it perfectly illustrates how torn she is over the phantom. I just love the connection between Christine's father and the Phantom. She knows she'll never see or hear her father again, but in her memory, imagination, soul, music and darkness she can still find him. That's why she is so attracted to the Phantom, he represents exactly all of that. In The Music of the Night the Phantom says "close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before". The sad part is that both Christine and the Phantom cannot live together (or in the same world let's say), just like Christine and her father can't. So in the final part, in the music Down Once More, the Phantom sings "For either way you choose YOU cannot win", while Raul sings at the same time "For either way you choose HE has to win" (refering to the Phantom). Well, the Phantom was right and was one step ahead of Raul. He knew that Cristine could never win, she would always be losing something, either in the relation she would choose, or in the fact that she simply just can't be with her father again. It's like Raul was fighting for his love, and the Phantom was actually fighting for somethng bigger. The Phantom knows that some things cannot co exist, that's life, so he lets her go and gives her his memory, his imagination, his soul, his music and his darkness. He let's Raoul be her light (Music All I Ask Of You). And at the very end, when Cristhine leaves the Phantom she climbs the stairs and stops exactly at the middle and sings, this time to the Phantom and not to Raoul (she turns her head slightly to him) "Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime". Despite following the light, Raoul (he is actually dressed in white and the phantom in dark) she knows she will always have a gateway to the Phantom, not in the physical world but in the imaginary one. Both the Phantom and the father can only live in Christine's heart. That's why I prefer the Phantom, what a character, what a beautiful story.

I never noticed this before, but this song is the only major piece of melodic material in the entire Phantom score that is only heard once and never repeated elsewhere in the show. Edited: Ok, the music for the first faux-opera, Hannibal, is also never heard again after that scene, but as that material was meant to be a pastiche or parody of operatic excess, I don't count that as one of the show's major themes.
@karlalejandroresurreccion57784 жыл бұрын
The song actually gets repeated but they only repeats it during the play out after the performance much like the entr'acte in the beginning of act 2 as a way to relive all of the music from act 1. The play out is somewhat almost the same to the entr'acte with the replacement of some songs like All I Ask of You for songs like this and Prima Donna. Edit: They still actually play all of the music from the entr'acte but they shortened the time for Music of the Night and All I Ask of You to accommodate Wishing You Were Somehow Here and Prima Donna. If there was one music that they replaced, it could be Angel of Music but they still somewhat have the melody in the playout so they pretty much just modified the entr'acte for the playout. I'm even sure if Angel of Music is in the playout cause the melodies is mixed in a bit poorly compared to the entr'acte so you can't clearly compare them both.

@@Furrhan Yup and apparently this is the only song in the whole show that was edited by Andrew. According to a video that he posted last month or earlier this month, he didn't changed any notes for any of POTO's songs except this one. Originally it was supposed to end with a simple fade out but since this is Christine's only big song that's for her, Christine's actors asked Andrew to change the notes. That's why there's a big note drop before the final line so it has that impact to the audience.

Christine is not completely passive, but she is still in the story sometimes treated as kind of a doll around which the story is built on by the men. Sadly alot of people who live in poor countries (like me), or who live far away (also me) don't have access to this wonderful masterpiece. It's hella expensive to buy it when I can use the money for other needs. Luckily I was able to see it all on the last day when it was available for free, and even now I still have the whole musical in my mind.

I can never watch this performance without crying. Sierra brings out all the emotion from the lyrics and the story, making you feel the pain and grief Christine feels and ultimately breaking your heart too. It is so so sad, you can feel how alone and lost Christine truly is.

The first time I saw POTO live was on Broadway in 2014, with Sierra as Christine and Norm Lewis as the Phantom. I had lost both my grandmother and my uncle in the past 15 months. I sobbed like a baby when she sang this. Sierra sings this song with so much emotion that it makes me tear up every time I hear her sing it.

Once again I am reduced to a pool of tears rewatching this 😭 She’s so brilliant 💖 Her Christine is a newly transformed Christine as every word of this song was sung. She started off as a sad, confused, and desperate Christine but then rose up as a determined, strong one to leave all the sadness and weighing past memories behind. Brava!

How I loved this song, damn if my soul would be so full of joy whenever I listened to Sierra's stunning voice and the orchestra and just the magnificence of this piece... I have this thing that, when someone, especially someone dear to me, someone I love likes or says something good about something that I love, it makes me love that thing even more idk why... Two months and a week ago, I was sitting on my granny's living room watching the 25th anniversary, she was as always on the kitchen definitely one of her favorite places to be, and I have to say that her food was always soo delicious, she LOVED cooking like omg how she loved it. When she was finished she came to sit with me and here two important things to consider: 1. She had no idea what Phantom of the Opera is nor about ALW or musicals. 2. She knew nothing about English (we are Mexican) and the 25th had no subtitles. STILL she sat with me on the couch, started watching the musical with me (while Notes/Primadonna was playing), fell asleep for like 10 minutes and then woke up and kept on watching and asking questions like: What are you watching? Why are they doing that? I don't what they say but it sounds really good!. She ALWAYS took interest and got excited with what I liked even if she didn't know what on Earth was I taking about. And I was telling everything about it, the story, the characters, the stage, the actors and she listened to it all with a nod or a smile. The this song came and the first thing she said was "What a pretty dress!" And then she was like "I have no idea of what she is saying, but that lady sings beautiful" she loved Sierra. She watched the whole thing with me and God I will never forget the face she made when the Phantom's face was revealed in The Point of no Return haha, she went "That's why she wants to stay with the blonde, he's so ugly" hahaha. She liked this so much that she agreed to watch Les Mis movie with me but with subtitles. But a week later before we could do many things we planned, she passed away from a heart attack at night, we were watching the TV (His son: my father, my brother, my grandfather, my little 7 month old sister and me) all was normal, she had been as active and full of energy as she always was. It was so suddenly, so fast. It all went from laughter to tears so quickly... It's been two months since she's gone, and I hate how accurate this song (her favorite from the musical) is now applied to her, she was not my father but she was an is such a big part of my heart. This song is too bittersweet to me now, I still love it for the masterpiece it is, but it brings also the memories back, the pain... Christine is one of my dream roles, I told this to my granny and she was "well you can train your voice and do it for sure! Your brother and you have the music inside since you were really young" If I ever get to play her, I will dedicate that specific part of the show, that song to her... I love you Granny Cony, with my whole heart ❤️✨~Sara

The violin solo at the beginning of the scene is hautingly beautiful by it's own right. But it get's even more beautiful and emotional when you consider it's an allegory to her father, the famous violinist virtuoso. His ghost, his music still haunts her, calls her.

I love how Sierra sings that first verse of Phantom of the Opera here ‘in sleep he sang to me…etc’ in an almost hypnotic tone…like Christine falls right back under his spell by just thinking about him ❤ I’ve always felt ‘Wishing’ was really a Turing point for Christine, but a painful one. She’s got to let her father go if she wants to have any sort of future for herself. She can’t truly see either Raoul or the Phantom as men in their own right until she lets go of the man who has cast the biggest shadow over her life for so long…her father. In many ways Christine was unconsciously looking for a ‘daddy’ in both Raoul and the Phantom and because they both love her they both try to play that role for her but they both ultimately fail because neither of them deep down want to be ‘daddy’ to her…they want to both be men to her. But Christine can’t truly embrace being a woman until she lets daddy go which she does here…but it’s not easy, and the Phantom desperately clings to that ‘Angel of Music’ role because he’s terrified of losing her without it, as much as Christine is terrified of losing her father by letting go of it…it’s painful for both of them.

Superb . This song stopped the show for nearly three minutes . I have seen all the noteworthy Christine’s but when Sierra came along , there could be no other but Sierra to play the role . This was the showstopper of the night , but the last scene between Christine , The Phantom and Raoul was breathtaking and demonstrated that Sierra is THE Christine and Ramin is THE Phantom .
