5:07 begin's Hugh's voice....pure, haunting, silky, compelling perfection. I would follow that phantom ANYWHERE.

5:32 if you listen very very closely, you can hear some people in the audience sobbing after hugh delivers his line “have you forgotten your angel?” 😭 😭

I would love to see Hugh live playing this roll. Seeing it on video is a poor substitute. But even here I can see why everybody is raving about him. He is truly scary,intimidating, psychotic, and mesmerizing. His voice, holy moly! If a voice could have power to posses your mind and poison your soul, it is his! Hauntingly beautiful and insidious! The darkest portrait of the phantom ever!

I love Hugh Panaro! The Wandering Child duet between Christine and Erik is so alluring. Panaro is my second favorite phantom (Next to Ramin Karimloo).
@keelieak9 жыл бұрын
Michael Crawford's haunting, soothing voice in this part captured my heart as a little girl when I'd listen to the soundtrack, making this one of my very favorite parts of the whole show. Hugh Panaro is the only Phantom since, to melt me on the spot at "wandering child.". He's exquisite.

Panaro is one of the best.

Why could they not have been performing together at a time when we had better video quality and more TV performances? I crave high quality videos of Panaro and Joseph, they're the perfect people for these roles.

Probably my favorite part of the entire play, I love it so much. This is such a moving performance, they are all so amazing! The phantoms taunting, sadistic change on it is so.. it's just so cool. Christine's heartbreak, despiration. She gives such a moving performance. Between that helplessness and the pained taunting, it's just so amazing.

Just the Phantom and Christine singing, that's the way this sequence should be. I don't like it with Raoul added in like they've got now, it feels too crowded, just too much. This is much better.
@keelieak9 жыл бұрын
Exactly! You can't hear a thing anyone says. When I was a little girl I fell in love with the sound of Michael Crawford's "you denied me-turning from true beauty/do not shun me..."harmonizing with Christine's lyrics. Hugh Panaro is the only Phantom since, to give me the same chills. Had Raoul been jumbling it up from the beginning, I'd have missed what is maybe two of my favorite verses sung by my two favorite phantoms.
@erika86273 жыл бұрын
Was this on purpose? It feels like Raoul got on stage late or something? "Can't you see she'll never be yours!"
@jesselynlee2 жыл бұрын
@@erika8627 It is on purpose - for Broadway. The West End version has Raoul come in earlier, Broadway has him come in later.
@l.n.3372 Жыл бұрын
I disagree, I think Wandering Child is much stronger as a trio. It was written as the trio (Phantom, Christine and Raoul). To remove Raoul takes away from some of the strength of the song. The Phantom is trying to manipulate Christine. Raoul is trying to free Christine from the Phantom. And Christine is caught in the middle.
@drjax199411 жыл бұрын
They actually only use that part in the UK. Ever since the show transferred to Broadway, they dropped it for all US productions. The London productions and quite a few foreign productions use it still.

Is the line "far from my far-reaching gaze" or "far from my fatherly gaze"? I distinctly heard Hugh sing the first one here, but I swear I have piano scores that list it as the second... hmm
@evilmerv46452 жыл бұрын
I have the 25th anniversary show on dvd and the subtitles say “fathering gaze” so 🤷🏽♀️

I'm fairly certain Michael Crawford says far reaching gaze in the original soundtrack I've always had as a kid.
