My last two sets of irons I’ve gone in wanting mizuno and walked out fitted for Wilson’s. First set was the v6 players blade type club. The most recent was the d9 game improvements ones. The pros in the shop tried very hard to push me into players irons but the d9s felt amazing. Had right dispersion AND I hit them a club and half longer then my other irons. So my 7 iron is essentially a 5 iron haha but what’s happened is the placebo effect of pulling 7 iron for 165m Carrie’s is that I bring my 7 iron confidence with that shot and I’ve got way more greens at distance. We have a 190m par 3 at my local with a massive bunker in front. I rarely hit it as does anyone. Since getting these clubs I’m 5/6 GIR on that hole with my 5i. I’ve also never had so much confidence that I can knock it close from 120m out. Half the price and to me they’ve performed and felt way better 🤷♂️ cobra ltdx driver is money for me right now. It destroyed my callaway rogue sun zero in testing. Callaway being low spin should’ve beat it for distance but it wasn’t close. Cobra was longer more forgiving and lower spin. and odyssey ten track two ball putter and tm hi toe wedges I love. I have an sm9 as well and for me TM hi toe is way better. Really like the TM for full swings with my gap wedge. Srixon 3hy replaced my cobra 3w… distances were literally the same 🤯 and I’ve also switched from the same ball you use to the “lower spinning one”. TXG did a great video that highlights that they spin the same on full swings but you get more ballspeed with the BX. Edit - also the whole game improvement clubs dont hold greens is BS. Yesterday I hit my PW and it spun back a decent whack which is very rare for me to do. And the added height that comes with those forgiving clubs means greater decent angle = more greens in reg.

I returned to golf after maybe a 10 year lay off, I'm terrible now. However I was seduced by the KZbin reviews etc and bought an cobras f8 for £150, I sold my old f speeds. I sold my mizuno wedges and bought Wilson on sale. I kept my irons, mp52s because they're mint. I bought a lynx 3 wood on sale too. I bought a bigger bag, an owl or something and a decent trolley. My lower back is wrecked and I can't carry my clubs anymore.

Mizuno MP59 TI Muscle irons (3-pw). I love them and would definitely recommend trying Mizuno irons. When I bought them, it came down to a choice between Mizuno and Titleist, and I chose Mizuno based on look. Both felt great, but when I looked down at the club when I addressed the ball, I preferred the Mizuno irons. I got their new T22 wedges this year, and love them so far but haven't used them enough to give a full review.

My current bag set up is Cobra F7+ driver, Cobra F6 3W, Ping i25 17 degree hybrid, Ping i10 irons 4-PW+SW, Titleist SM6 50 GW and 58 LW, with a putter that's older than me by about a decade, a Ping Zing 2 with a modern superstroke grip. This is year 3 of golf for me so I don't expect club upgrades to make a huge difference in my game atm. That being said, a couple weeks ago I did end up getting fit for irons. I brought my i10's in to get lengthened and regripped but after talking to a couple shop pros and them letting me try out some stuff on the sim they determined I needed stronger flex shafts, and an extra inch in shaft length. Ended up trying 6 or 7 different things before settling on Ping again with the G425s, gained about 20 yards per club and they feel super easy to hit. (the head is literally double the size of the i10's lol) I might find me a new putter next.. but some of the prices on those are shocking to say the least.

I can’t rate highly enough Cobra Forged Tech irons 2021, so underrated! Like holding a canon in your hands when you flush the ball ! I have the Cleveland wedges you have, perfectly weighted for my game , I’ll never change them, when you find what you like and they work why change. I recall Matt Fitzpatrick’s irons when he won the US Open were over 10 years old, says it all ! The issue I have , most golfers see the latest iron or driver and it’s “ I’ve gotta get those they’ll improve my game” ………. I’ve broken my game down in sections, worked on irons then changed…….. wedges the same & hybrids, ditched two now play with one the Cobra King Tech 3 Hybrid…….. and ditched my driver till I’m finally ready to get more consistent! Keep up the great content , new subscriber here 👏🏽

I, like you, hadn't played for awhile. After returning from my hiatus I had to update a majority of my sticks. I was in Titleist D3 909 8.5*, now TSi3 10* set at 9.25*. I had cobra amp max irons they were ok but I had the tendency to hook them and I mean badly. Now in Mizuno jpx919. Shafts are S300 105. Still too soft. I occasionally still hit a hook, but not nearly as bad. 3 wood was a Taylormade Rbz now Titleist Ts3. Hybrid Taylormade rbz now Titleist 818 H1. Switched putters too. I went from a Titleist Scotty Cameron Teryllium Newport 2 into a Taylormade Spider. Definitely a big change but also for the better. The spider is way more stable through the stroke. The Titleist had a tendency to waiver no matter how much I practiced. I'm still in my old original first generation Titleist Vokey spin milled wedges 60*, 56* and a 52* that's an oil can model. All 3 will be illegal for amateurs in 2 years I think. So I'll switch then as I still hit them great and they spin plenty. I personally like the adjustability of the Titleist products and the amount of shaft options on the secondhand market is fantastic. I bought all of my stuff through ebay shopping for great deals. The putter I purchased new. Don't sleep on the secondhand market. I bought everything for way less than half what new stuff costs. The Titleist driver, 3 wood, and hybrid are all rocket launchers. The 3 wood has a sound I'm not fond of so it may need some hot melt for that. Fitting would have been great but I can't afford to drop $3000 on new sticks. So I gotta do the best I can with what I got. With what I paid if anything wasn't what I wanted I could easily get back out what I have in them since I bought them off season here in the states.

I had a bunch of money sitting in the pro shop that was use it or lose it so I decided to give the bag an overhaul. I got Titleist T100 irons and, if you are looking for something that has the feel of a blade but performs better then I would urge you to try them. The feeling and workability with them is amazing and that comes from someone who didn’t really want to change my clubs in the first place 😁 I also gained 10-15yds of distance per club as well which is an added bonus 👌

Very informative. I'm currently an 17 hc and game the new Mizuno Pro 225 and absolutely love them. But I did have to change out the Project X IO 110g 6.0 shafts that came with them...waaaay too stiff for my 79mph iron swing speed. It was like swinging a piece of re-bar. I tried soft stepping them (x2) and it helped, but still no go for me. Swapped out all the shafts for NS Pro 950's stiff, BUT soft stepped x2 as well, and voila! Crushing them like a champ. The x2 soft stepping brought the stiffness between regular and stiff. Ironically, I changed up my swing and now incorporate the stack and tilt method like you describe here (Saguto style). I figured this out by accident by testing the theory of placing the ball 3 inches ahead of where I setup my club face. Anyway, what a journey eh?
@jimfoster20112 жыл бұрын
For Irons, have you considered the Mizuno 223 or the Wilson Staff CB. In my eyes those two are gorgeous and seem to be fairly forgiving. For Driver & Fairway Woods, Mizuno seems to be raising their game quite a bit. The Wilson Staff CB also can be has 2 iron through Gap wedge available, so it could fill a hole between the 3 Wood and irons if necessary. I have an old set of Ping ISI's in Nickel and have good luck with them. I'd like to get a new driver & woods, probably Mizuno STZ, they seem to be the most forgiving right now.

I’m thinking about changing my irons too, I’ve got mizuno mp 18 sc in the bag at the moment. Considering switching to a combo set of apex pro and standard apex for the 5 and 6 iron to give me a bit more forgiveness on the lower lofted ones. Most manufacturers are able to fit you into a combo now, so you can have the “players” club but not suffer for it. You might want to look at Srixon too, they do some good looking clubs at a slightly lower price point. If you were looking for a sponsorship deal you might be able to swing it (see what I did there?) with one of the niche manufacturers like sub 70 or that other one that I can’t remember the name of

Don't let the marketing geniuses and the gatekeepers out there keep you away from blades. Sure, the loft on them is usually weaker than on hollowbodies (which is not a problem... who cares if the 35° club is called a 7 or a 8, it'll go the same distance with similar flight/spin) but they are perfectly "playable" for a normal decent-ish ball striker. At 10 or below you ought to be able to, largely. The main difference is on a bad hit you loose 10 yards instead of 5 or 6 and you feel it's a bad hit but when it's good you feel greatness! Actually it's great to have that because then you know exactly why your shot was too short when it is.
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
I used to make that argument but there must be a reason even a lot of tour pros are moving away from blades these days? Everyone mishits shots sometimes, right, so I guess it's better to only be five yards short rather than 10 when you do?
@francoisdesmoulins-lebeaul42732 жыл бұрын
@@RobMcGarr yes I've heard that one often, too. Two things, though, one they play what they get paid to play, as long as it's not too offensive they'll do well (we adapt to our clubs much more than a fitter can adapt the clubs to us) and two they don't have to learn their strike patterns but need every ounce of confidence they can find. That's the reason why so many of them take the flag out even if statistics are very clear that the average distance to the hole is significantly reduced when you leave the flag in!

The big problem is that we are just guessing and going with either feels or what is promoted the heaviest because there is such a rich variety of hardware it's difficult to know where to start. In an ideal world I would like to play a couple of rounds with different makes of clubs to get a good feel for what is really best for me rather than taking someone else's word for it.

@@RobMcGarr Well I am sure if you look around certainly the correct shaft and length can be found (particularly if you are casting a wide net and not just looking for one specific model), loft and lie, well with blades I would get those checked anyway when they are new to you as no guarantee they will be spot on anyway, just by the nature of them being forged clubs. For the record - distance control is specifically where mallets destroy blades. Blade putters are only consistent if you absolutely middle your putts every time. Which 99% don’t do. Mallets distance control is phenomenal. I’m like you, I love blades and I want to game one sooooo bad. But the reality is a Putt way better with a mallet even though I hate the look of it. I think when I had the fitting I used to spin it a lot and the X helped with that - they fitted me into that as it performed the best of everything we tried. I think I hit my driver better now (less high spin) so maybe don't need the X and don't have the speed to warrant it.

You already have great clubs. So changing anything won't change much unless you just want new clubs for a change of scenery.

I expect you're right, just a few people I know have experienced real improvements getting fitted for clubs (like my mate who went from 12 to 2 in my recent video). But it's definitely a "want" more than "need" for sure.

@@RobMcGarr your mate spent a lot of time practising his shirt game as far as I understand. Enjoy it anyway sometimes it's motivation to shoot lower scores.

@@balance3201 Yeah defo, made the biggest difference for him. But he said the irons made a massive difference, plus driver. I do think you're onto something there in terms of the motivation.

I've worked on a range and tried the latest and greatest. Most differences are negligible. His improvement on his irons may have been because his old ones were not at all suited to him. If you are hitting yours decent distances you won't suddenly get another 20 yards. Unless you kid yourself like some golfers and play irons which are playing with less loft. My current 8 iron loft is same as some 'wedges' on the market.

Titleist T100s irons btw. TaylorMade "hotter" products have that jumper.
