She was setup as next protagonist since 2015. And that girl dying basically means Ciri has yet to learn about human nature because Geralt would expect it and would not let her go to village alone. But this also fits into grim world of the Witcher where good do not always win. Sometimes it's all about lesser evil.

Witcher 3 is very clearly intended to be the end to Geralt's story - but (at least in one ending) it heavily implies that Ciri takes up the mantle and intends to become a Witcher, herself, with his blessing.

I am looking forward to this game, but I will say that Ciri being a full Witcher now has some interesting implications from a lore perspective, either she somehow survived the Trial of the grasses (and found someone who could and would help her), or she found another way (maybe a new version of the Trial altogether).
@rafandalorian7 сағат бұрын
The most likely thing is that Ciri survives the trial thanks to her elder blood. But lost her powers in the process.
@solaire84986 сағат бұрын
It’s stated in the books that Yennefer could recreate the trial of grasses if given enough time to figure it out. In the games she even subjects Uma to the first part of the trial, so it doesn’t take much guessing to figure out where Ciri would have learned

im 100% with on being over all the grimdark nonsense. for various games and shows, the most prominent example i see is discussions about how "oh, well the best and most interesting thing they can do is kill this character" or "who do you think is going to die?" like it's completely going over their heads that the very fact that they're having those conversations and treating such a "twist" as a given means it's now empty and meaningless as a plot device. they also now conflate character deaths with "this story meant something" and it's so fucking exhausting to try to explain complex emotional journeys and how sometimes a character actually CHEAPENS a story

@thebaffman48985 сағат бұрын
In a recent interview the devs said that this teaser trailer was meant to show the world the look and feel of The Witcher 4 and also to be used by the devs themselves as something to strive for while creating the game. This trailer was created within the game engine but it's entirely pre-rendered, and has nothing to do with the game itself which is still in early stages of development. I hope they do achieve this look and this quality in the final game though, they really nailed it.
@HannaHsOverInvested4 сағат бұрын

@thebaffman48984 сағат бұрын
@HannaHsOverInvested Well, meaning it's a separate thing from the game itself because the game basically does not exist atm, not in this form anyway. It takes a loooot of time and effort for a game to take a form that actually resembles how it will be at release (and I know something about it being a dev myself lol) so in the meantime stuff like this trailer can be extremely useful to use as reference, together with a ton of concept art I'm pretty sure they created.
@Olochgu2 сағат бұрын
@@HannaHsOverInvested Nothing to do with it in the same way that "A Night to Remember" and "Killing Monsters", the two Witcher 3 trailers, had nothing to do with that game either. We are also getting a knew Witcher book about a teenage Geralt. I did not even start the knew Witcher season. Passed episode 1 of the second season it just fell apart and felt like it was writing by someone who hates the books. Im excited to continue exploring the Witcherverse with a character we all know and love. People were talking about it just being a Witcher you make yourself similar to what they did with CP2077, but I think the love for the characters is one of the things that makes this series. Triss was not all that great in the books like she is in the games for the most part (its implied she gave Geralt a magical roofie to sleep with him). They are also completly remaking the first game, which is great because that one is super dated even though it has a great story line. Im hoping they do the same with the second, because that one while not quite as dated could be great with a few improvements. If you ever decide you want to play the games from the beginning I would defiantly wait till the remake.

Hey 👋🏼. If you want to play some Witcher stuff but feel intimidated by Witcher 3’s huge open world, please please please try Thronebreaker. It’s a relatively simple game with an amazing story and soundtrack about Queen Meve, a character from the books. I cannot express how amazing this game is for someone that enjoys the world of the Witcher and has read the books. Best of all, if you’re not digging the puzzle-based gameplay, you can skip those entirely to progress the story (though I do find the gameplay quite enjoyable!). It’s honestly the most underrated game ever in my opinion and despite not having too much of Geralt, it is a true gem. Here’s a trailer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4SWgoaqd795Z9Ufeature=shared

Important sidenote: During the official live reveal, there was also a voice line from Geralt's game Voice actor Doug that said "Time for a new saga, see you on the path", so he will still be in the game in some form, just not as the protagonist. And yes, at 09:03 you're right, this has been confirmed by the devs to be a mere sidequest in the game.

I would concur this one is there to set the tone of the game rather than actually focusing on the main story. On the gameplay front we've basically established that Geralt is retired as of the end of the third game (and it's DLC expansions). Ciri has in the intervening time apparently become a full witcher. She's been acting as one in the past but has evidently picked up the mutations given the eyes and potion. I do agree with you on the sads, we've had a bit of a tragedy kick in media the last few years. I may be biased by personal taste there though.

There are often unintended side effects from it, the worst case being death. In Geralt's case, it turned his hair white.

Despite what a lot of folks are saying, it’s not impossible for Ciri to become a Witcher. It’s NEVER said in any of the books or games that it’s impossible for girls to become witchers, but rather that it was always boys who were chosen to undergo the mutations. The books also say that, if given enough time, Yennefer or Triss could recreate the process to make witchers.
@Danceofmasks4 сағат бұрын
It's the wolf school trial that always killed every girl. Apparently cat school had some female witchers in the past, though much rarer, so it's was never impossible.
@Olochgu2 сағат бұрын
I think in the books it just says that Boys are much much more likely to survive the mutations, so Witchers didn't bother picking up girls to train. There has never been any mention of female Witchers in the books or games, but iirc there was mention of one in the official Witcher ttrpg, which was discontinued because the company went bankrupt, and i think that was supposed to be expanded upon in an expansion that never came out. However, in the 1st Witcher game there is a journal entry that flat out states that Rayla (a character from the books) has been subjected to the mutations after being badly wounded. So there is precedent not just for a woman to survive the mutations, but also for an adult woman to survive them, in the canon of the games.

Re: this just being a small part of a larger story, that has generally been the case with Witcher game trailers before. This one reminds me of the "Killing Monsters" trailer for Witcher 3, it generally just shows off the idea that often the real monsters are humans rather than magical beasts. As far as I can remember, they've basically done a similar thing with every witcher game, haha.
@frozen17627 сағат бұрын
Geralt is retired, so Ciri takes over that's why you don't see him. But her being a Witcher has a lot of lore problems. He should also be in the game but not as main character. Also, this game will come out maybe in 2026, 2027 or later.
@Galantus19647 сағат бұрын
BS... thers more than enough lore that makes the choice believable
@frozen17626 сағат бұрын
@@Galantus1964 Witcher mutations were made for small boys not grownup women. It was a torturing process only 3/10 survived and that knowledge was lost. Mutations also makes you sterile, and there are prophecies about Ciri offspring. So, you need to explain how/why is she a Witcher early in TW4.
@OlochguСағат бұрын
Witcher 1 establishes that Black/White Rayla was subjected to the mutations by Salamandra and survived. So there is no Lore problem at all. And even if there were, with the books stating that Yen could probably recreate the trials (and her outright doing parts of it in Witcher 3), it is a very natural conclusion to assume that she could have improved them. It would also be no stretch to say that the Lynx school had improved the trial of grasses and the mutations themselves to be a smoother process, or that Ciri's elderblood allowed her to survive what she shouldn't. At the end of the day, it is already established in the game universe that it is possible for an adult woman to survive the mutations, and it's not hard to come up with a new believable explanation either.
