Is Nilfgaard the most powerful state on the Continent?

Why though? At every point in both books and games we are told Nilfgaard are the most powerful nation but we're never told why? Is it the size of their armies? Are they more technologically advanced? Do they have superior tacticians and strategists? What is it that makes them so powerful?

@@saladinbob Yes, Norther Kingdoms are like late medieval lvl., Nilfgaard is like rennisance era techology. Maybe not that big difference, but gives advantage.
