I agree! I played it on Epic and very quickly realized that this was going to be a huge success. So much fun to be had, but yeah, Epic is definitely not the place most go for their games. 🤣 Pirate Software was talking about how Epic is a great way to soft-launch a game because you can give access to a smaller group of people before it comes to steam and gets the lauded "steam review" score

I really hope they add NPCs with dialogue! I think that’s a very key piece that’s missing from the Hermitorium. It feels too lonely, quiet, and just uninviting in a way. Add a blacksmith, or an alchemist, or both even maybe.

Great video. One observation about calamities that I've made from your streams, but you didn't mention: There always seems to be an optional condition you can fulfill instead of fighting the calamity, e.g., killing a certain number of certain enemy types. That's the reason why sometimes specific enemies keep spawning everywhere when the calamity arrives. This probably was done to give you an opportunity of dealing with a calamity that spawned out of your currently accessible area, like it did in one of your streams. Also, you called it a "cataclysm" once in your video, maybe you want to add a footnote not correct that 😊

@@Noobzito Honestly if u have a sniper rifle like the basilisk or the Hailstorm or even a lvl 2 hypnosis u can charge shots or quickscope the skulls and the calamity will be over pretty fast ive found that snipers and bolt actions are literaly f broken right now with a little bit of practice and some ammo management (granted my first tango with the ship was in castle just after the gate and i was using a Hailstorm and assault rifle with bouncing bullets[forgot its name] ) Im more afraid of the ice wretch calamity and the phantoms :D :D almost always get killed by the ice wretches

This helps; coming from a shooter like Destiny, this game felt like my weapons are all pretty weak and leveling to 10 still felt like I didn’t have a great way to deal damage. I’ll focus on the weapon “requirements” and go from there. Cheers!

That's a good idea! Also don't forget to unlock at least one of each type of spell and an item, a fetish, and a ring. Some of them are insanely powerful

I gave this a shot today and I am hooked. I play tons of roguelike/roguelites and soulslikes so this just seems to scratch the itch. The gameplay loop seems to me initially to be very well thought out, and the gunplay is excellent. For half the price of a Ubisoft shitshow, this should be considered, at least the 1.0. Thanks for the video btw, I just skipped most of the tutorials and went in with really little knowledge why my runs where chaos (the VVitch :P). Dropped a sub!

Same got it yesterday for my steam deck oled and I'm hooked, just unlocked a room back at base which had the stake launcher gun lol enemies explode with one shot and the tougher ones are 2 or 3 shots 😁.

This is such an underrated game, the mechanics and gun feel is excellent. I made the mistake of unlocking Gnosis 3, and I can barely make it out of the island anymore :) Gonna need to farm the tower to level up ... Hmm also there was something to be unlocked near trader at gnosis 3, gonna check it out.

Master tip: Find Striga [ stake gun ], become superior with it, which means learn to hit headshots with this beauty, be it from shorter or long rage. Master it. Also, there is Striga's beautiful friend called Hangfire [ revolver with exploding bullets ], master it too. Level up your witchfire gains first [ Metanoia ], up too lvl 20-25. Become unstoppable. Also, having lots endurance or health is a must. Ring of Madwowan is a beast that helps you kill everything and anyone. For spells pick cross and lightning ball, they help you by combining elemental damage of lightning with elemental damage of burn, causing bonus damage, especially in large crowds. Now you can kill anyone and everything.

Thanks this was super helpful! I was really scratching my head at some of the weapon upgrade requirements. Like the game never even tells you what the mysterium incantation is or does. The whole calamity system also wasn't really explained. I just picked this up last night. It's been on my radar since it was first announced. As a fan of Painkiller/Bulletstorm it was hotly anticipated. Then I kind of forgot about it and now it's on Steam and I agree, it's pretty great and very addicting.

Its very good guide. I just downloaded the game and had no idea what to do next whatsoever. It just felt like i cleared 2-3 skulls and then went straight into spawn portal, which isn't bad if you know what's next and what are you getting.

I noticed the first time i did an expadition it was pretty easy and simple then after ur 1st extraction the next time u go in it will be much harder with more enemys

I just started, question: can you store the witchfire currency somewhere after you go through the extraction? Or do you have to spend it and if not it’s gone? I’ve had a few runs I got to the extraction but didn’t have enough currency to actually spend it somewhere, so it was just wasted.

as far as I know you cannot store witchfire. its kinda like a souls game. the witchfire “shards” or “crystals” or whatever they’re called are like little nuggets of witchfire that stay banked in your inventory. use them to gain different amounts of witchfire

I’m in love with this game….but wow am I under leveled. I’m level 18, gnosis 2, and at the castle. It’s hard but I love it. I’m getting that toxic pistol and maxing out ricochet/ lightning

Some quality of life fixes would be an option to respawn right back into the same world instead of having to go back to the hermitorium to start again. Would really add to the Roguelite appeal and improve gameflow

I started playing this 2 days ago. I’m enjoying it. But some of the game mechanics are hard to figure out. Like on the 1st map, the tower, I assume there is a boss in the tower. I’ve gotten to the big tomb, with giant skeleton on it. And there are like 6-7 gravestones surrounding it. I think it says I need Gnosis 1 to interact with it? So I have to do that, in order to go up against the boss on the 1st map, right? Or do I need to do something else?

Its kind of like a clock, interacting with the fire in the braziers will spin the center piece. Look at the tombstones that lead up to the tower and read them carefully. They give you the order that you need to input to the mechanism and it unlocks a multi floor challenge to get to the boss which is incredibly hard. Good luck!

I don't believe so... however, you can always go back to the early maps and try and level up there a bit.

You know those enemies with a yellow orb above them? I don't understand how they work. I've grasped that they're some kind of infinitely spawning enemy but when I've went to the second area I just ended up fighting tons of them until I ran or died. Can I stop them from continuously spawning?

They spawn from the Itinerant portal. You see little notifications in the lower left that says when things come out of the portal. It also lets you know when "the hunt is drawing closer" these enemies spawn from the portal and then hunt you down.

No idea why you would say to avoid summoning the calamities, it's your best source of healing potions, feathers for arcanas and gives you full ammo for your 2 basic weapons and some ammo for your demonic weapon. Never have i cleansed a cursed item. Farming curses for calamities is also very easy for example before murdering the warden melee range with the fire shotgun i let him spot me to give me 1 to 2 curse first, the enemies he summons are bonus witchfire and not hard to kill at all.

The longer I play the more I am realizing that you can make calamities work for you. I'd say that early on, it's a good way to die though!
