Lol why do many people don't understand that Lana's version HAS TO BE calm and dark because it's for the Maleficent movie?! It is calm and dark because of the movie's theme and it works. In the original sleeping beauty film it is supposed to be a song about meeting a love (Phillip in this case.) Emily sings this version in a way that was meant to cater to a younger generation's pop culture. I don't care for Emily's version because it deviates too far from the very traditional and balanced three step waltz tempo.

I've been going on a Disney nostalgia trip over the past week or so. I've been watching a lot of Disney Universe gameplay videos (I never played the game but it came out when I was 7) and I used to L O V E these music videos in all of my favorite movies (Still do.) My top faves were "When You Wish Upon A Star" (Pinocchio), "Dancing In The Moonlight" (Space Buddies) and "Once Upon A Dream". I'm 16 now, turning 17 in January and I miss my younger days. When I first clicked on this video, I almost cried because so many memories from when I was little just flowed back into my mind. I want to be 7 again. 😭

It doesn't really matter when it was made. It matters what the songs were used for I guess. For this version, it was for Sleeping Beauty so it couldn't be dark and it had to be up-beat. To sound "romantic" and "oh Im in love" or childish like Sleeping Beauty was on Disney Lana's version had to sound dark because I am pretty sure it was for Maleficent, the DARKER version. (I have not seen the movie yet so.. DONT correct me please) It had to be darker so it would fit the movie.
