- The wall block is called (Kodah Wall) with a color tone called (Bluestone)
- The Steps are called (Irregular Steps) with a color tone called (Bluestone)
- The main walkway pavers are called (Stone Ridge) with a color tone called (Granite City)
- The Inner Border pavers are called (Old Vienna) with a color tone called (Raven)

Wish I had known about the sand when I did my paver patio 2 years ago. Every video I watched, dozens, used a one inch sand layer. As mother nature continues to settle the patio thru the constant rains we get here in the Pacific Northwest from November to about May, I'm having to pull pavers and re-seat them. I just finished a 4 X 40 foot paver walkway using as close as I could find materials used above. I expect much better results this time around. Thanks guys!

Sorry to hear you are dealing with the sand issue’s. Not enough people are talking about the downfalls of sand here on KZbin. I’m sure your walkway will hold up better than the patio if your base is like this one. It is all about clean, crushed aggregate for the base of pavers and natural stone. Drainage is key!

@@TheChristianHardscaper awe man I just saw this comment - it didn’t show up in my feed for some reason! That’s funny, if you keep it up I think you will keep getting customers seeing your work and I think you could start charging more and scaling ops! I realize that finding competent workers for a decent price is a little more tricky in the upper states . But I think you have a decent showing of your skills here on KZbin and likely could increase your margins. I think what you’re doing is awesome . I’ve actually started using your paver base method and it’s a super sturdy base with less work and less potential movement (since as you say, 3/4 and 1/4 inch rocks are mostly compact as-is), Even in a non-freezing environment , I think it is a superior method to putting sand !!

Love watching your video's. Thank you. Speaking of quality. I am having Cambridge pavers installed on a walkway and pool patio. Walkway is done. Laying pavers for a 2000 sqft patio and noticing chipping and delaminating(swiss cheese like ) of the Cambridge ledgestone XL texture pavers. Polymeric sand is not even installed. Got couple days of heavy rain and now noticing more chipping and delaminating like swiss cheese. Do we have a bad batch of pavers and did I pick wrong manufacturer? Also are smooth pavers stronger than textured? Appreciate any feedback. Thank you
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! So I would say that Cambridge pavers are good quality. It could be the batch, it could be common with that style you choose... In my experience, the manufacturer with the least defective pavers would be Techo Bloc. I have used pavers from so many brands and they are the most consistent with their color tones and lack of damaged pavers. And smooth pavers are not stronger than the textured pavers. And the big thing about smooth pavers is that you notice the defects you are talking about much easier. But trust me, all the manufacturers have defective pavers mixed in on the pallets. Unfortunately that is the way it goes... Most say you have to account for about 5% loss or so when ordering pavers due to defects.
@lutimletap648
@lutimletap648 Жыл бұрын
@@TheChristianHardscaper Thank you Kyle. If it is a bad batch. How do you determine that? Also I am thinking of asking them to replace all the pavers since they are falling apart with in days. They should cover the labor as well since the product is defective. I don't want to have to deal with this down the road on a 2500 sqft of pavers. Good thing is the patio is not joint locked with polymeric sand, it would easier to replace. Any thoughts or suggestions. Much appreciate it.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I would say that if they are falling apart, definitely call someone to look at them before polymeric sand. When I say a bad batch, I mean more along the lines of many of them having chips or cracks. They should not be crumbly or brittle... Is that what you mean?
@lutimletap648
@lutimletap648 Жыл бұрын
@@TheChristianHardscaper Yeah they are brittle. If there is a small chunk missing, I can make the hole bigger with my finger. Just laying there without polymeric sand, they seem to be deteroiting just from heavy rain... Too bad I can't attach photo's here.
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
Man, that is crazy... I would definitely contact the supplier 1st, then they will reach out the the manufacturer. The pavers should not be doing that. You can send pictures to me at my email (TheChristianHardscaper@gmail.com)

How do you figure out how many elevations youll need (how many sets of stairs and walkways)
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
When I estimate a job like this, I find the elevation difference between the bottom and top of the proposed install. You find the number with a laser or string and a string level. Than it is just a few different math equations after that. ✌

One more question if you have the time. I have already laid down 5” (AB) Aggregate Base Coarse gravel for my base before watching your videos. Why is stone dust no good under pavers ??
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper 2 жыл бұрын
Stone dust act’s as a sponge and holds on to water. That’s very bad in a freeze/ thaw climate because the layer of stone dust that is holding on to water will expand and contract multiple times a winter. You want a clean aggregate for your bedding stone so that water drains through it freely.

Why did you stop using sand?
@TheChristianHardscaper
@TheChristianHardscaper Жыл бұрын
I stopped using sand over 4 years ago once I learned about this method. It is far greater than the traditional dense grade / sand method. Dense grade and sand hold onto water like a sponge, causing many issues during the lifetime of a paver / hardscape project. This (Open Grade Base) method is far superior. It allows water to travel through it freely and permeate into the subsoils. Here in Massachusetts, that is very important with the many freeze / thaw cycles we go through in the winter.
