This was one of the best lectures I have ever listened to. Usually, when I watch a youtube video or listen to anything I am playing with my phone, but somehow, I listened to the full talk without once picking up my phone. May Allah help us and protect us from the constant state of distraction we will in!

@@hanifali2566 Yes, I have, many times. But conversion/reversion is not a simple matter, especially as one gets older. Further, there are things about Islam which attract me and things which do not; there are things which I find important and things which I do not; things which I am willing to give up and things which I am not; things which I find perhaps important to give up and things which I do not. Much has to do with one's comfort zone.

@@xelakram In the name of God, The Most Merciful, The Continually Merciful. All praise is due to Him and may His peace and blessing be upon His messengers, ameen. Thank you for this response my brother/sister. I totally understand where you are coming from as I am a convert myself of almost three years now, praise be to God. However, God guided me when I was young (18) so I am sure that the situation is much harder for you as you stated, since there is more to lose. A few things that I will say to you from my reflections and from what I have learned is that the base most essential thing that we should look at when making a big decision such as this is that there is one objective truth that is pure and protected by God and that all rest is not objectively true and pure, even though it may have had some elements of truth that seeped into it from this one true source. The reason I bring this up is that you stated that there are some things in Islam which you find attractive and others which you do not - I think the parts of Islam that actually matter for us to find attractive are the parts that help us decipher whether or not Islam is the objective, pure truth that I spoke of earlier. I am sure that you are familiar with the rational arguments about why God must exist and what attributes He must contain (Hamza Tzortzis speaks on these a lot), and I think that if you are able to find that what Islam says God is matches exactly what rationally God must be, then you can come to the conclusion that Islam is the pure source of truth, and everything else that we may find uncomfortable about it we can deal with as we move on - but as for what is important is that we have established that Islam and what it teaches is objectively the truth, even though subjectively we may have some disagreements with it in our current state. "Surely pure religion is for Allah only..." (Quran Translation, 39:3) One other thing I will mention is that you talked about how hard it is to give some things up, and that is absolutely true. At the same time, I would suggest thinking about how easily we could lose everything without us willing or wanting to do so, and then we realize how temporary and out of our control these things really are. For example - we may be afraid to make this decision due to our family or our wealth, but what would I do if, God forbid, a member of my family catches corona and we all succumb to it one by one? Or if the business that I was afraid of losing all of a sudden collapses without me doing anything to lead to that? And ultimately, everything we cherish in life comes to an immediate end all-together once death comes to us - if we think about these things and realize how all of this is in God's hands alone, then we should trust God and know that with Him is the everlasting reward as opposed to the temporary things this life has to offer. The smart decision then is to take the path in which you are siding with the protection of God as He is the one who controls when we and our loved ones will die, etc. "And do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [some] categories of them, [its being but] the splendor of worldly life by which We test them. And the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring." (Quran Translation, 20:131) I hope these things were some thoughts that can help fuel some reflection my brother/sister. Also lastly, I will say that Mikaeel Smith, the one in this video, is one of my personal teachers at Qalam Seminary. If you would like to have a talk with him just one on one about absolutely anything, please let me know as I can set that up very easily inshaa Allah. I think it would be of great benefit. He is also a convert to Islam so he would be able to relate to some of the things you may be feeling inshaa Allah. Do let me know and I pray the best for you!

@@hanifali2566 Thank you for your fulsome reply. In it, you have raised many, many questions. One thing that stands out is that you assume that without Islam, there is no belief in God. This is not true. We Christians also believe in God; though our belief takes a different form than the belief of a Muslim. Just sayin'! I am no longer in the full flush of youth. So there are foods and habits which I would find very difficult to give up. I don't even believe that God is terribly worried whether I, or anyone else, enjoys the odd glass of wine or the occasional smoke. He has far more important things to worry about; further, enjoying these things in moderation do not make one a bad person. Remember this: Hitler didn't drink or smoke and look what a terrible person he was! Hitler is not the only example of bad people in history who were non-smoking teetotallers. So, frankly, I can't get very excited about such things. I will enjoy the years I have left to live in the way I see fit. In any case, I live a life of moderation and I am not going to get myself bent out of shape because of the few pleasures I enjoy. They are simply not important in the scheme of things. I will bear your very kind offer of speaking with Mikaeel Smith in mind. It is a kind offer which I appreciate greatly. I will keep a link to this exchange so that I shall be able to take you up on this kind offer should the need arise. In the meantime, I send you my very best wishes. Stay safe and healthy in these perilous times.

@@xelakram Hello brother/sister. Thank you for your response! I have written something that I will split up into a few comments due to its length, please do forgive me for its length but I just want to make sure I convey everything I was saying clearly as not to confuse you! ~~ Thank you for your response! I apologize that my previous reply may have raised some questions or may have seemed incomplete, the reason is that it is very hard to communicate such ideas through comments like these. The ideas are best talked about through a live one-on-one discussion in which we can make sure the other person understands what we are trying to say and where we can quickly ask each-other questions for clarification. I do have some things to say about what you have replied, so I will try my best to communicate them through this medium, do let me know if any questions arise or if something does not make sense or communicate fully, as I will try my best to clarify it Inshaa Allah. I will start off with the first thing you mentioned which was about Christians also believing in God. I agree with that, but the idea I was trying to put forth is that rationally, if we go back and try to write down the concrete principles as to why an independent Creator must exist and what attributes He must possess, then Islam meets that criterion perfectly. I would also argue that Islam is the only viewpoint that meets that criterion perfectly, and since you have said that you are a Christian I will mention a few points as to why Christianity does not seem to meet this rational criterion: - First and foremost is that God must be independent. Just so I can illustrate this point, I will give a funny little example: If I want to drink a cup of Chai and I ask my brother if I can make one on the stove, and he says "sure let me ask mom," and my mother then says "sure let me ask dad", and then my father says "sure let me ask your aunt", and that chain continues forever... I would never get my chai. The reason being is that there has to be one person who has all control, who does not have to consult with anyone, who can say "Yes - he can have the chai." Same thing with our creation - the fact that we exist, tells us that somewhere down the chain there is a being who holds absolutely all control and is independent of consulting anyone else. This may seem obvious to you as you are a Christian and hold belief in God, but the reason I bring up this example is that it illustrates the idea of why the Trinity does not meet this condition that is very necessary of God. The Quran puts forth : "If there had been in the heavens or earth any gods but Him, both heavens and earth would be in ruins: God, Lord of the Throne, is far above the things they say: He cannot be called to account for anything He does, whereas they will be called to account." (Quran Translation, 21:22-23) I know that the Trinity states that there are three persons of one being, and therefore there is only one God - think about it this way : If all three of these persons hold the same will and essence, then doesn't that contradict a lot of the Bible? Example : "Then Jesus went about a stone’s throw away from them. He kneeled down and prayed, 'Father, if it is what you want, then let me not have this cup of suffering. But do what you want, not what I want.'" (Luke 22:41-45) This raises a few concerns : Is Jesus is God in the form of a man, he is still God; this makes it impossible for him to pray to God or to need to pray to God. If Jesus truly is God, then the fact that he is praying takes away the absolute authority and control that God needs to have that I mentioned earlier. Secondly, Jesus clearly states here that he has a different will than God (But do what you want, not what I want.). That would make them two different beings entirely rather than two different persons sharing the same being. The argument Allah puts forth in the above verse really does allow us to reflect here: If the three beings within the trinity share different wills, then what happens when there is a disagreement? If they are all Independent and Absolute, then all of their Independent wills would take precedence, which would lead to everything being in disarray. If one of their wills overpowers the others, then that means the others are not God, but rather they are less than Him and subject to His will. This is one of the examples of what I was saying earlier, that Islam's view of God is the only one that make sense in when we think of what attributes God must uncompromisingly have through a rational lens. Allah says in the Quran: "Say: He is Allah, the One! Allah, the eternally Besought of all! He begetteth not nor was begotten. And there is none comparable unto Him." (Quran Translation, Chapter 112 'The Sincerity')
