Some other cards for folks who want to build this on a budget: Mask of Memory - card draw/selection on an equipment that works well with double strike Inspiring Statuary - essentially a mana rock that lets you tap your equipment for mana Ironsoul Enforcer - if you find that your equipment are being destroyed a lot, the Enforcer is a great way to recur them

I made a Balan deck a while back and tryed to get a theme of only swords. Wasn't able to completely rule out equipment that are not swords or weapons, but I really like how it turned out. Since it follows a theme, it's not that optimized, but I really love the theme of having nearly all features behind equipment. Heartseeker is so on theme and works great if Balan has vigilance.

Nice point with so many good reprints in the set to support an equipment built. After about the halfway mark I noticed the background music got a bit repetitive, so maybe add a few different songs to not distract from the video.

I've been flirting with building a red and white equipment deck for years, ever since I took apart the original mono white Nahiri precon. I'm not sure why I never got around to it.... should do that soon. I mean, Astor looks peetty damn cool.

Love the video, I have a bit of a question for a superb deck teacher such as yourself, I’ve been wanting to build an all “Sword of blank and blank” deck with all 10 swords and for the first time Balan looks like a good commander to lead it, especially with gaining double strike synergies with the combat damage triggers, but with 10 swords, would you put other equipment or is it too much? How much equipment is the right number to aim for in an equipment deck?

I've got 28 equipments in my balan deck and that might be a bit too much, but if you're going towards an equipment theme, you would want to reliably have enough equipments for Balan to have double strike. If your focus is on the 10 swords, you might just want to pack it full of support cards to find them reliably instead (open the armory, steelshaper's gift, etc...). In my Balan deck I have for example Heartseeker and Lothlorien Blade to have removal also in the equipment slot (since it's on the budget side, I don't have "swords of" in the deck besides hearth and home for the ramp).

It's not a super dedicated budget list, but I would certainly consider it budget-conscious. Most decks at this power level will end up being in the $500-600 range if their builder isn't critical about card prices. And as DJ said, you can adjust the choices further to lower the cost- the list he shared in the description is a "balanced configuration"
