As annoying as he is, I love Tao’s character because it feels so authentic to what being a teenager felt like, with all of his dramatics. I think all of us have had some experience with feeling neglected by a friend or feeling concerned for a friend and not knowing how to express it. Being a teenager is having so many feelings but not yet having the maturity to know how to express them. But you can tell Tao cares so much for all of his friends

I actually really like Tao and the way he was so passionate about his friends. It really bothered me to see people hating on him because yes, he can be annoying, but he IS a good friend. He had valid reasons for his mistrust and behaviour, even if he should've dialed back and trusted Charlie's judgment a bit more. And I'd be mad too if my friend ditched me all the time for someone else, whether I knew they were together or not. His problem was the way he communicated and how he obsessed over it. But in the end when you don't have that many friends, it is very lonely and scary when the few you do have start distancing themselves from you more and more

Finally someone who understands Tao. People not getting that our perspective is so different cause we see what's going on with Nick and Charlie in private drives me nuts. It's compelty valid to be overprotective when Charlie is falling for a guy who's seemingly best friend with the biggest bullies and homophobes and who was watching them be bullied last year and now and didn't even say a word. He literally had to become best friends with him and then fall In love to even say "stop picking on people for no reason" once. I really like Nick, don't get me wrong, and I relate to him too cause I'm bi, but as a person who was bullied my whole life and had abandonment issues too, I relate to Tao on such a deep level, I was 100% like him when I was 16 and was paranoid that my friends are all gonna leave me and find someone better and I'm gonna be all alone cause they all have different friends and relationships and I only have them. And honestly it was a long journey but the thing that actually thought me my self worth and how to be independent was losing all of my friends at 21 and being completely alone and learning that I'm my best friend and even if I don't have anyone I'll survive. I saw some reactions to heartstopper today and one guy literally told Tao to chill when he was being bullied and was hit with a ball in his head and it made me so mad. I'm 24 and the fact that I was bullied at school still affects my mental health to this day. Some people just don't get how devastating for a 14-15 kid and his confidence it is. You can see it in Tao all the time, even if hes alone at home talking with Elle, he's like "promise me you will prioritize our friendship" which is literally "promise me you won't leave me"
@withcindy2 жыл бұрын

i think when you're in high school, sometimes you're only friends with the people you're friends with bc of circumstance. like, nick was only friends with harry and his mates because of rugby. i kinda get the vibe that nick up till now was a bit of a people pleaser, so he's scared about upsetting the balance of things and shaking up the status quo and doing things out of the norm. he has to be civil & friendly with harry and his mates and makeup with them because he has to see them everyday. he's in the same year as them, on the same sports team as them, etc. he's been around them for 5 years of high school, at the end of the day.

I really enjoyed watching you guys react to Heartstopper! I've been reading the comics and the series did it so much justice, I found myself wanting to cry from joy and the overwhelming feeling of being seen, but not scrutinised (if that makes sense). The whole viewing experience felt like a warm hug. It was lovely to see something so pure and sweet, and as a British person, I really felt the realism of what British schools are like (though obviously there is far more cussing in reality lol).

Honestly, I was so scared to watch this show bc I have really bad anxiety and bc of internalized homophobia I get really uncomfortable when I see gay romance (I’m a gay dude). Watching this reaction helped me microdose it and feel more comfortable so I could watch the show and enjoy it. I don’t have many many queer friends so it feels like I could have the experience of watching with some queer friends. New subscriber for sure

Can I just say as a brass instrument player (I play trombone) Darcy playing trumpet is perfect, your instrument truly says a lot about your personality. I love that Tara plays clarinet as well. We love talented girlies.

Cindy crying was me the whole time. It's so nice to have media about a young gay relationship that isn't overly sexualised and actually played by teenagers. Like, I can't be the only one sick of the age gap tropes and the late 20s actors playing 16 y/o people, doing all sorts of illegal shit and boning every episode.

Ok but as a gay-ass english person who went through all-public english education, this is exactly what english public schools are like. idk why but the art block always looks way better than any other part regardless of the funding, and the social hierarchies are spot-on

I've been reading these comics since like 2018 and let me tell you, it's such an incredible story. As a gay transmasc, just having a story about two young queer kids falling in love is so great?? it's such a simple and sweet plot it makes me cry every time.

I feel instead of making me happy this show made me feel melancholic and depressed. I know this sounds dramatic but bear with me. I was bullied in the whole span of my highschool because of my weight and had no energy to fight with it and every single person made fun of it. I had literally no friends and was extremely lonely and this show made me feel that I deserved friends. But its like a long time ago now and nothing can be changed. This is what makes me extremely sad.

I wish I could've been your friend back then ❤ You sound thoughtful and lovely. I'm so sorry people were cruel to you. Those little spit wads. How wrong 😡 I also feel sad and wistful watching many parts of this show, wishing my experience was as wholesome as this, or that I or my friends said all the right things at the right times, or that I had all the same loving experiences as the squad. I get jealous of fictional characters 😫 It makes me want to rewrite my history in my head; such a bittersweet melancholic feeling wanting to change so much but being grateful for what I did get at the same time. Anyway I hope you have a friend now, or at least someone close to confide in!! You really deserve it. And I hope you are feeling welcomed in this Internet family at least 💗 💖 💕

You aren't the only one to feel that way- my mental health declined all through secondary school until I missed my last few years and lost all my friendships, and seeing all the love and friendship and queer joy in heartstopper made me so sad, thinking of what I missed. But I take comfort in the fact that there is a future, and although I can't reclaim lost time, I can learn from it. And I'm happy when I think of what value and happiness heartstopper can bring to people who are struggling.

i got teary in that scene when Nick came out because as someone who isn't queer, but has a queer sibling, when they came out to me, I just felt so many emotions. Protectiveness because I know how cruel the world is, fear because I never wanted her to be hurt by someone, and guilt that I may have made her feel she couldn't come out to me. That's why it's so important to have these stories told because they help everyone!

When I came out to my mum I told her I was going on a date and this was how the conversation went: 'I've been asked on a date.' 'Oh? What's his name?' 'Well... her name is kelly' My mum paused for a second and went, ' tbh I'm more surprised you're going on date at all than the fact its with a girl' I have never felt so accepted yet roasted at the same time.
