My local bookstore owner decided to be more "hip" and buy books for a wider demographic. The last time I was in there, he was selling the whole ACOTR series to a 9 year old girl and her dad for her first "big girl" series. I burst out laughing when they left. When the book store guy questioned why, I opened up to one of the more disturbing "sensual" (I love raunch and smut, but have no idea WTF SJM was trying to do) scenes and showed him. IDK what the term is for the "Oh Good God What Have I Done" face and "Surprised Pikachu" face is but boi he was frozen for a good solid minute.

It would be cool if in Honey Girl the main character still had a type A personality BUT didn't realize it and nobody around her was open about it. That way she could justify her actions to the reader in a way that starts off very logical, but over time, as we see more of these actions and she slowly reveals her anxiety over not having control, we start to think, "hmmm... She's got some stuff she needs to confront". At the same time that we, the readers start to realize she's got type A issues, is the same time the main character starts to realize it herself. That would segue beautifully into the arc where she confronts that and works towards that growth

A Kazuo Ishiguro fan here: Klara and The Sun is definitely one of his weaker novels, but I'm so glad you decided to read Never Let Me Go nevertheless! It shares a few similarities with KATS in terms of the themes explored, but it's soooo much more engaging and emotional!

I think my favorite part of these videos is when everything starts to fall apart at the same time as the plot in the book you're reviewing ✨life imitates art✨
