Only saxophonists who work in this type of ensembles can really understand how hard it is. Perfect ensemble play, incredible "in tune" octaves and unisons, great arrangement!
@jacobbass6437
@jacobbass6437 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!!!!! Not just that but matching articulations across multiple people with balancing so that everyone is heard, yet not encroaching on others parts. Not to mention making everyone’s tone both unique enough to be characteristic for their instrument while also being able to blend the many instruments into a solid and homogenous wall of sound. And all that doesn’t take into account the difficulty of the music on the page. The saxophone is the instrument so great that it’s created the only chamber ensemble able to rival the diversity of texture and color of the string quartet. Chamber saxophone music is what makes me proud to be a classical saxophonist as it shows off exactly what an amazing instrument that Adolf Sax created.

@@jacobbass6437 hi sir, I'm new to saxophone and classical music in general, could you tell me what's "chamber" thanks a lot
@jacobbass6437
@jacobbass6437 Жыл бұрын
@@jero2955 chamber music is music for only a couple instruments. Usually 2-5 though chamber groups as big as 16-20 do exist. It's usually more casual in nature and was written originally to be performed in the "chambers" of the rich aristocrats where the aristocrats and their teachers would play music together in small informal concerts.

Every time I listen to Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Bach I ask myself how such piece of music is possible. I've never found any answer to my question, only musicians who are able to show that this piece is possible to be performed. And that's what I am so thankfull for.

Who said that? I don’t think anyone has said that. Saxophone was invented for classical music. It was adopted into the military and then into jazz and then into rock, but at its beginning it was a classical instrument.

Amy Rose No, composers took them out of the orchestras because all of the other instrument makers in Paris threatened to boycott their orchestras if they used saxophones. Saxophones were so much better than every other instrument maker’s wind instruments at the time that they caused those makers to hate Sax. They actually created an organization devoted to ruining him, and even tried to kill him a few times. Hector Berlioz said of the instrument, “It cries, sighs and dreams. It possesses a crescendo and can gradually diminish until it is only an echo of an echo. I know of no other instrument that possesses this particular capacity to reach the outer limits of audible sound.”

I love the little dance that the tenor and bari are doing at 5:07 😂 for some reason it makes me think of the Veggie tales dancing. Then again I dance with my sax too so I can’t talk. If you don’t you’re not feeling the vibe

Those dancing gestures are some of the best ways of getting REALLY locked in. It’s what me and the second alto did for the second movement Maslanka Symphony No. 7. We had 32nd note duodectuplets and switched off ever beat. We utterly nailed it.

That was amazing. It's always amazing when good musicians do something different and do it so very well. I posted this to my facebook page before I even finished listening to it. I remember the first time I heard Pictures at an Exhibition as arranged for orchestra by Saint Sans and he called for a saxophone. Actually I was in the 9th grade and playing with a semi pro wind orchestra in Ventura CA back in the 60's and we played it and that was the first time I'd ever heard it. This recording was as good as anyone's could be.

Very impressive. I got through the 48 exercises in the Otto Langley saxophone tutor. It took me a whole week to get one exercise perfect. Then l went to my teacher, Charles Chapman, who played the piece transposing ( l was on tenor, he was on alto) and he played it perfectly.l realised that some people are just born with huge talent. I got to a reasonable standard by hard work but just did not have that innate gift. He could sight read anything and had been a great session musician on clarinet and saxes.

No one is born with talent. It is purely the amount of effort put in. It’s easy to look at good musicians that make the hardest of music look easy and think “they had to be born this good”. But nothing is farther from the truth.

Hurrah! What a wonderful performance. Really great! Amazing! Enjoyable. When all the six of you simultaneously play in harmony it gives the effect of playing duplication of same of melody with addition of two more notes (keys) on both upper and lower octave on reed organ by using both of the hands. It gives much warmth than quartet and quintet.

The problem is that most orchestras stick to playing older music from before the saxophone was invented, thus it wouldn't make sense for the orchestra financially to hire saxophonists when they wouldn't be able to play most of the repertoire since there would be no sax part written out for them. More modern composers avoid scoring prominently for the saxophone since its inclusion in the orchestra wouldn't be certain. It's a vicious cycle where no one writes sax parts because they might not have it in the orchestra and orchestras won't hire saxophonists because no one writes for it. The only chance any instrument has of entering the orchestra as a full member nowadays is if orchestra shift their focus to more modern music and said modern composers to write for the new instrument. Film and video-game scores might have quite a bit of influence here since they often use more unique instrumentation. That said, the saxophone has quite a lot of guest appearances in the orchestra, surprisingly more than the euphonium which is typically thought of as a more classical instrument, ex. Ravel's Bolero, Pictures at an Exhibition, Lt. Kije, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet and more.

@@LOLIPOP1136. No. People didn’t write for the saxophone because of the fact that manufacturers made it so that musicians would threaten to quite if someone tried to use one of Sax’s instruments. The saxophone was invented barely a decade from the death of Beethoven. All of the romantic period and beyond had access to the sax. And a majority of pieces that orchestras play were from the romantic era.
