Based on the Deverry books by Katherine Kerr. The song is through the eyes of Nevyn, . He was once a prince(Galrion) who was betrothed to a princess. Their destiny entailed them to learn magic together(he didn't know at the time, but his master did), but because he selfishly thought that being engaged to a princess would impede his learning of magic, basically...well fucked everything up. His selfish act causes the death of the princess as well as others. He was then disowned by his father the King, as well as losing his title/land. His father bestows to him the name of Nevyn (literally, No One, in their language). He then, in the books, vows to the Gods at the princess' grave that he will "not rest" til he corrects things and brings her to her true destiny. In the first book, Jillian is the then incarnation of the princess.(Gilyn, if I remember. Been a while). Nevyn has been living and interacting with her incarnations for over 400 years prior to the first book, trying to help and steer her to her true destiny. Thus the Song. That is all =D Incredible book series, by the way!
