Both passed away years ago, and - although I'm an adult man with wife and children - I still remember them often and my heart is full of love for them. Of course time goes by and the daily life is full of other activity, but nevertheless I think of them at some times, especially at night when it is calm. Staying strong and positive and enjoying the time we have is exactly what they would wish for me. YOU ARE RIGHT.

.....just discovered it again. I used to play this song to my twins every night for a long time when they were about 4 years old. Now they are 17 years old. We haven't talked about it since then. In 2012 my elderly father of 87 years old suffered several strokes back to back that left him on life support. We as a family together decided to let him go after several tests were run on his brain that showed he had no brain activity. It was the hardest thing I had ever been a part of and was the ugliest thing to witness. It was so painful I literally listened to the song several times remembering all the memories I had of my father. On Monday April 29th 2024 I lost a person I loved dearly like a sister who lost a hard fight against cancer. We knew each other over 20 years we knew each other's family kids parents and so forth. I had a beautiful relationship with her she called me brother I called her sister but she was so much more than that to me she was my strength my moral support. I suffered a spinal cord injury 7 years ago and went through a hard time emotionally, mentally, and spiritually but Susie helped me through when no one was there to give me support. When she came down with cancer she continued to be my support and I gave her the support she deserved from me. We loved each other very much so I'm back to listen to this beautiful song and think of the beautiful memories I have of my beloved sister

Depends on your view on things. I have a lot of memories of my ex-girlfriend that broke up with me in May, but I still consider them happy memories. Because I can remeber all the love and care I got from her and how happy I was. And I am not thinking about how lonely I am now, I just dont let it get to me. You can sort of decide to be happy, does not work 100% but you can be happier if you just decide you want to be that.

PS: have you ever wondered why there is no word for it in English? I refer to one of the main topics: the short-lived nature of everything. In German Vergänglichkeit, but there are many other languages that have a word for it as well.Some countries celebrate the blossoming of short living flowers others like to keep their ruins as is, as a reminder that all beauty and grandeur are only temporary.

John Jacobs I actually asked an American about the word, but you are right. I would say in German the word is used more often but still infrequently. However, it is more present in their mind regarding their nostalgia and romanticism. Americans on the other hand seem to live more in the present. Germans have a habit of reminding their kids that everything has it's end (except for the sausage which has two). I guess it's due to their long history with wars and diseases. It might have started with the Baroque era thinking of the omniprescence of skulls in art and the totentanz (remember we were what you are and we are what you'll be)

I discovered this song many years ago just as I was going through a breakup with my girlfriend of many years. It was really hard for me because it was a beautiful relationship that started from teen years. We had so much wonderful memories together and as things started to fall apart, her lies cost me my health, my friends and my relationship with my family. I felt completely abandoned, lost my sanity and health, failed my academic career, quit my sport career, almost quit on living. Now, I am doing great, have wife and kid, some new friends, chasing some new dreams and being more stable and happier than ever. Finally I can listen to this song as a masterpiece that it is and not as a trigger to bad feelings in my guts. It's a beautiful song

This songs holds special meaning for me. I first came across this song after being introduced to the band from the first song I heard from them, which was "Angels" and both are some of my favorites. One night, some years back, while at work at the juvenile center, overnight, I was suddenly compelled to sing this song 'Memories' out of nowhere, and I had no idea why. I didn't want to wake the kids up tho so I merely hummed it out loud for about 20 minutes straight, continuing to feel compelled to do so. It felt like something had happened tbh. Then, I finally got my 15 minute break and, like clockwork, as soon as I got outside and my phone was turned on (we were not allowed to carry them on us while in the building), my mom called me. She told me my grandma had passed away, about 30 minutes prior. The timing did not feel like a coincidence and ever since then, I associate this song with my grandma, who I did not get a chance to see when I had moved out of town to be with my then-fiance at the time, for about a decade, due to driving issues and finances. Thank you for creating such beautiful music with your angelic voice and the amazing band, Sharon! This one will always be one of my favorites!

I played this in the closing of my wedding dinner reception for all the photo ops we had to do. Felt it was very fitting. I wanted to use it as a tribute to my father who died when I was 4, who rightfully should have been there that day. That reality came very clear to some members of my family as the only son of the son of 12 grand children. 12 years ago I heard this song. Still listening it now and still gives me the chills.

It goes without saying that Within Temptation's older music has more than just held up well; I don't think its ever been outdone. (although a handful of the best Nightwish compositions with Floor up front ARE a match!) What's just as remarkable is that as much as Sharon was obviously an otherwordly beauty sixteen years ago, she is STILL EVERY DAMN BIT as jaw-droppingly gorgeous today! PLEASE don't move far away from the spellbinding tone and atmosphere of this style of music, that made you guys a legend.
