She is, of course, a fictional character in a fictional world. Still, I'd like to remind you that some signs were there from the beginning. Such as her silent acceptance of Drogo promising to "kill all the men in their iron suits, tear down their houses made of stone", etc. Also her crucifying the slavers, her insisting that she is the sole rightful queen of the seven kingdoms (instead of a union of kingdoms ruled by monarchs that actually have support of their people); and so on. In my opinion it was not at all unlikely that she would go full mental. But the greatness of fiction lies in the fact that we can all choose to believe what we will and never be proven wrong. As long as you and I enjoy the story, there's no point in saying one of us is right and the other is wrong.

@@heikkisuora2500 This same conversation has been going on since that episode but can be summarized with "foreshadowing is not character development". D&D progressively relied on shock value because that is what gave GOT headlines but they forced those shocking twists at the expense of plot and character development. Season 6 ending is a prime example of this with all of its silly cliffhangers. That is why I wasn't surprised at all by how they decided to introduce Dany burning King's Landing as a surprise twist. To D&D that kind of writing had worked so long but this time they took it too far and the reviews and general attitude towards GOT final season proves that. This kind of a game changer would have required some serious groundwork. Now, it's true Dany will burn the city down in the source material aswell but GRRM has actually laid the seeds for that. One which you have picked up aswell. You bring up Dany's attitude to Khal Drogo's speech but that is not character development. That scene is placed after Robert Baratheon's death and up to that point the story has only established House Targaryen and Stark as the opposition. The story needed to create pressure for Cersei with Dany's storyline because she and the Stark's were the only plot elements at the time. Renly, Stannis etc were introduced in book 2. As far as Dany's interest in the iron throne, that was show only. In the books Dany shows no interest to sit on the iron throne and actually turns down several offers to go to Westeros. But the show cut out all these plot elements so the only way to get Dany to Westeros is to make her power hungry. It was generally perceived as very clumsy but people were just happy she finally left Essos. Now, crucifying the masters is an important plot point and GRRM spends the entire fifth book on this. It showed that Dany has a tendency to violently lash out. What's more important is that this is not the first time. The show implied that Dany masterminded getting the Unsullied and killing the masters in Astapor. The book however had Dany act spontaneously. She indeed did plan to give up her dragon away and lost her sleep over this. But she lashed out violently and got everything she wanted. So the source material has established two important points: Dany has a tendency to violently lash out and all of Dany's greatest accomplishments have been due to use of violence. The latter is something many don't "get" in her storyline because it goes completely against the generally accepted "violence is always bad" -narrative. But it's an important plot point knowing how the story ends. She raised her dragons with blood magic, she got the Unsullied by slaughtering the masters, she will gain control of Mereen and the Dothraki with violence. Personally I believe the books will have fake Aegon take King's Landing and everyone kneeling for him. Dany knows he is a fake ("Slayer of lies") and sits on a massive amount of power. This creates an environment where she will go with the instinct that has worked so well for her - violence. She is not mad and from a writer's perspective it makes no sense because Cersei is the mad queen. GRRM has even said that his greatest regret in separating book 4 and 5 into different books was that readers miss the comparisons he made between Dany and Cersei. The latter is mad, Dany has a violent instinct.

I Love Within Temptation, I have a few CDs & have seen them live. During the sequence what happened to the spear sticking out of the dragon ?

The dragon was wounded but survived. Daenerys later pulled the spear out, when they had flown to safety. After a time he regained his strength and was able to fight again. In the final scene of the show, the dragon carries the corpse of the then dead Daenerys out over the ocean. I think he knows it's for the best of both species, that men and dragons never meet again.
