This song is an awakening to the world as it truly is, horrific and terrifying. We all realize at some point that there are no fairy tale endings and this world is cruel. I also see it as a kind of apologetic prayer. Simply put, I tried to do the best I could with what I had and please forgive me if I get it wrong which something I'm sure a lot of us can relate to.

Not sure if this is accurate, but people seem to at least agree on the Latin if not the translation: Et est signum Dies datum Et tenebris Mea culpa Acta est fabula pereo The translation I found was: "And there is a sign, the given day, and by darkness, my tale is told, and I perish."
