Ever wondered what vintage UK prison drama 'Within These Walls' would be like if it featured incidental music - and particularly the same incidental music as vintage Australian prison drama 'Prisoner Cell Block H'?! Well, wonder no longer…
In this clip (part 1 of 2) from the Series 2 episode ‘Skivers’, we see into Chief Officer Mrs Armitage’s troubled homelife - and learn of her longstanding estrangement from her daughter, Ellen. When Mrs Armitage comes home from a shift at the prison one day, her husband Ted admits to her that he’s been in contact with Ellen, who’s recently visited him and brought along their young grandchild Samantha (whom Mrs Armitage has never met). When Ellen fell pregnant with Samantha three years ago, this led to a big falling-out with Mrs Armitage - not least because of Ellen being unmarried - and the two have not spoken to each other since. Now Ted is keen to see the family brought back together. However, Mrs Armitage can’t seem to get past her feelings of disapproval and hurt, which is quite unlike her usually stoical manner in life; as Ted says to her: “You’re so reasonable with the women at Stone Park. Why can’t you try to be the same with your own daughter?”
With 'PCBH' library music added for effect (track: ‘Timewatch’ by Brian Bennett, from the Bruton Music LP ‘Drama Montage, Volume Two’)!
Scene features Mona Bruce (as Mrs Armitage) and Charles Morgan (as Ted Armitage).
