Hi Guys!
Every year people go missing in our National Parks, while many are found a small percentage vanish without a trace and are never to be found. I tell the story of 6 year old Dennis Martin who disappeared in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in 1969. That year this search and rescue for Dennis turned into the largest search effort in Great Smokey Mountain NP history.
Their efforts turned up nothing!
Keep Hiking!

Unresolved Search-and-Rescue Cases Are Scattered Throughout the National Parks

Disappearance of Dennis Martin
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappe...
Excerpt:
Dennis Martin, a six-year-old resident of Knoxville, was visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park along with his father, grandfather and older brother on Father's Day weekend in 1969. The camping trip was a family tradition for the Martins.[1] The family hiked from Cades Cove to Russell Field and camped overnight. The next day, they hiked to Spence Field near the Appalachian Trail, where they planned to spend the night.
Martin disappeared on June 14 at 16:30 while planning on surprising the adults with his brother and other children from a separate family the Martins were camping with; he was last seen by his father going behind a bush to hide, intending on surprising the adults with the other children. After not seeing him for about five minutes and when all of the other children had returned to the camp site, his father became concerned and began searching for him. His father ran down the trail for nearly two miles, until he was sure he could not have gotten any farther. After several hours, they sought help from National Park Service rangers.[2][3]

I remember this one time I took my son ( who was 3 years old at the time ) out to the mall & we were in a toy store looking around. I remember letting his hand go so he could play with some toys that were on display. I watched my son play & also kept him in my peripheral vision for a few moments & then looked away for no more than 5 seconds. When I looked back he was gone! I thought to myself right away he must of went back into a aisle to look at other toys. When I saw he wasn’t in any of the aisles I asked a couple of the store employees if they had seen my son & they replied no. That’s when panic kicked in & I literally ran out of the store & towards the center of the mall ( at least roughy 200-300ft. ) & there he was talking to some elderly woman. I couldn’t believe he made that far in that short amount of time. I would say from the time I noticed him missing until I left the store to look for him was no more than a minute. Never turn your back on you’re kids like did, even for a few seconds! I know that feeling of panic & couldn’t imagine losing my child in a state park that has thousands of square miles. Ugh this is such a sad & tragic story.

For reasons I wont go into, I'm super aware of my kids when out in public, especially in malls etc. You would not believe how quickly pedos and other filthy people of that ilk can abduct, change the appearance of a child, and be on the road and gone with only shitty black and white camera footage that doesn't cover every inch of a mall or shopping centre, and they probably know and can avoid the cameras.... It's scary and there's no way any of my kids leave my sight when we are out...

Omg, that happened when my youngest was about 2yrs old in a very crowded mall. Turned my back in less than a minute and he was gone. I'm looking in stores. My husband ran into the parking lot. I took my daughter and went to the security center. I'm trying to tell this uninterested security guard. He looked passed me and said,"Is that him?" I turned around and here he was in this mass of humanity between 2 elderly women in nice knit suits bringing him to the security area. I fell to my knees with tears. I swear when I looked at these wonderful woman they had an angelic glow. That's when I taught my kids to plant themselves. Kids! Lol.

@@nicolecoenen2726 I lost each of my boys in crowded shopping malls when they were little. You're right, they disappear so quickly. One of them was a long way from where I lost him, outside near the fountain, security found him pretty quickly with the code red where they lock down all doors, he didn't have a care in the world. The second time my wise little boy went up to a lady in a newsagent and explained he was lost and she took him to lost and found - a couple of floors up further away from me so I was looking for him quite a while before they connected us again. Completely freaked out.

@@Abe-rz1nm It's so scary. This same kid got lost in Disneyland. We had gone into a shop. He had been right with us. Again turned around and he was gone. We spread out to look. We finally found him talking to the street cleaner who had a broom and cleaning cart. Wholly cow. Karma does happen. His youngest is just like him, though of course he can't see it, lol.

I was watching my 2 year old grandson at a high school football game, sitting in the bleachers. Stood for the National Anthem, facing the flag, with my grandson standing beside me. After the anthem, I looked down and he was gone. My heart turned to ice. I can’t even describe the feeling. A couple of minutes later, as I was asking people around me (no one else had seen him go either) and searching for him, a friend of the family came walking up the bleacher steps carrying him. He’d made it out of the bleachers and was playing in the dirt, in just that short time. They can be gone in a heartbeat.

The Martins met this other family for the first time in the park and the weird thing is that the other family had the same last name too according to David Paulides 411. Another bizarre fact with this case is that the FBI agent on this case later committed suicide. Such a sad story to hear.

David Paulides is little more than Bigfoot researcher, the mask almost came off with his last movie about aliens. I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in his books or research.
@coachtrevor7587
@coachtrevor7587 7 ай бұрын
There’s no mask that he wears. He explores all possibilities and since nobody else cares to look at any of these, he took the time from his life to look into these and exploit the lack of interest by our community and nation parks services. So before you speak about something you know nothing about, do your research. The only reason anybody talks about these missing people is because of him. There wasent a single channel or interest in the topic before him. He put the spotlight on it. He’s found so many similar cases with key points that have too many similarities with no reasonable answers, that he will then explore other ideas through research, testimony, and match the profile points to other possible reasonings some of these are happening. If you took the time to read any of his books or his research you wouldn’t make that statement. There are some of these cases that have 2 year olds found in excess of two thousand feet and multiple miles up a mountain found on boulder cliffs alive and/or dead in areas neary impossible to get to with the same shoes and articles of clothing missing or found on top of trees that would only have gotten there if dropped from the air. Found on small rocks in the middle of giant rivers that you would need a boat to get to. Found in areas that have been searched dozens of times and show up weeks later in that spot while SAR is surrounding the area. Found months later in the same spot dead but coroner can’t find cause of death for most of them and the body has only been dead for a day, again found only yards away from where they went missing. Both adults and toddlers. He speaks on both the odd/unusual cases and will talk about normal missing persons cases, people take his words out of context and repost things he says that he didn’t. A lot of times it’s these KZbin channels that just copy n paste his work and try to take credit for it and then speak negatively about him while doing 0 research into what he’s been doing

@@coachtrevor7587Everything you said is absolutely true! David has dedicated his life to investigating and studying these cases. He focuses on the cases that happened under mysterious circumstances because once the Search & Rescue has been called off, these missing people are basically left for dead. David's "Missing 411" platform has gained widespread attention and helped to solve many cases over the years. A large portion of the public get bent out of shape just because he is open to all possible reasons as to how people went missing, including Sasquatch, Paranormal or Extraterrestrial involvement. If my loved one was missing in a national park and hadn't been found by Search & Rescue, I would be grateful to have David heading the investigation and thinking outside the box for any and all possible explanations, no matter how strange or unbelievable they might seem!!

Latest theory came from retired Ranger at that area. Supposedly feral man kidnapped Dennis, killed n ate him. Green Berets killed as many feral people as they could find and got guilty man. @@marciakipp3633 I have no idea why parents think the forest is perfectly safe for their children to run around in. Maybe it's all those Disney movies filled with cute little woodland animals, or something, but they think nothing of letting their kids run ahead on the trail, or wander into the trees, where nobody can see them. It's very easy for a child to wander away and get lost. It happens to adults all the time, yet parents expect it to never happen to their children.

It was the first time listening in on the mom & daughter's tragedy up in Utah & my heart really went out to you for being able to tell that story, however, now I know this is what you do! Keep up the great work, it's so much ppl can learn from each & everyone!

Does anyone else pause videos like this and other paranormal/cryptid/disappearance vids at the start and go through the comment section for other stories? Find some pretty good stuff in the comments. if you have a great story to share, email it into guys like Chris so he can read it out to the whole community 😀 In regards to this disappearance, I think that the guy who saw a "Big, hairy guy" running up a mountain with something red over it's shoulder sounds to me like a rogue Sasquatch got him. I say this because the appearance of Green Berets compounds that likelihood, as they could track, and potentially kill a Sasquatch that's abducted a child and done god knows what with him. Also, the fact Dennis disappeared and wasn't responding to his name being shouted really loudly could mean that a Bigfoot was lurking and watching the family and when a child broke off on his own, only for a tiny amount of time and distance it took it's chance and grabbed the kid and got Dennis far enough away quikcly enough that the family was already looking in the wrong spot within minutes. I just don't want to think how the (potential) Squatch stopped Dennis from making any noise. I have heard other stories of the military turning up in similar circumstance missing persons especially kids, my guess is to track and kill the Bigfoot that's taking humans, esp kids.... Sounds crazy I know, just putting this possibility out there.

Great storytelling, however it was not Dennis’ first camping trip. It was a family tradition to go to Spence field and Dennis always looked forward to it. The other family that was there were not friends at all. They shared the same name but no relation. Sorry I studied this case inside out.

Eerie one - reminds me of a similar story of Kurt Newton who went missing in Maine in 1975 at Coburn Gorge. His family was camping and as they were doing chores it became an I thought he was with you sort of thing and well, he ended up going missing and was never found. I know this one well because my dad worked in the same building as his dad and I remember well listening to that story as a boy my father told me. It's sad for the missing person and the family. Enjoy your series, it's a nice touch telling these stories in the element.

Sadly, terrible way of carrying out a search, as mentioned in your video; they should have gotten the help of a few native american trackers, they are probably the best in the world for a number of reasons. They have succeeded when even high technology and more specialized personnel have failed, I recommend looking up some videos about them, it's very interesting.

A lot of Native Americans from this area don’t travel that part of the mountain in the summer. Some type of legend about it from years back within the tribes, my dad remembers hearing it from his great grandparents
@TalkingAboutGames
@TalkingAboutGames Жыл бұрын
@@jeffchristispittman7526 That's interesting, I think people should pay more attention to the legends, they are there for a reason. Maybe you already know, but Japan ignored an ancient stone that had the message of not building houses past a certain point; they considered it superstition, and guess what? When the tsunami hit, all of the houses beyond that point were destroyed, it was actually an ancient warning sign. When it comes to the ancients and their mysteries, where there is smoke there is fire, better to be safe than sorry!
@jeffchristispittman7526
@jeffchristispittman7526 Жыл бұрын
@@TalkingAboutGames I agree! I don’t remember all the details of this legend, but I do know they avoided the area because of disappearances! It’s also really interesting to look at the underground cave systems across the US. Some of the largest caves are directly under national parks, including this one!

My thoughts were that no matter how many people were there, all tracks would have been washed away with the rains, so the next best option would be to flood the area with bodies looking for him. With that many people there and considering the small area hill top where he went missing, would have a high success of finding him.

Love this missing person explains things a lot, a few years ago in Virginia a missing boy they found him but only by the way you explained towards the end. Some were actually upset because they didn't go full force, they found him safe and sound 3 days later starved and dehydrated but he was good. I worked for the National Park Service in Grand Teton National park on the Death Canyon Trail crew in the late 70s. I don’t recall any unsolved missing people reports during that time but a backpacker died in his tent of unknown causes in Cascade Canyon once. The people on the Cascade Canyon trail crew noticed the tent but no activity around it. After a few days a friend of mine on the trail crew who had been a medic in the US Army, checked the tent and found the body of a young man with no evidence of foul play. We never found out what caused his death.
