Wow. I am from Germany and elac is a German speaker manufacturer for many decades and they build way better speakers than those from Andrew Jones in collab with elac. I think that should be said because they have great speaker engineers. And our speakers which are made here in Germany are totally different than those which you have in the US.

Elac was founded in 1926 before any of us were around. Maybe there is hope for them post Andrew. All due respect to Mr. Jones. As far as relaxed too end, my Elac Debut b6.2's are very relaxed, listened to them for two years then packed them in their box. Great review thanks.

Well, Audiophiles are a really small niche in the market, so catering some of your products (especially active speakers in this case as they are not as involved as matching a whole system) to the general market is a pretty good move from a business standpoint. I think they will do just fine, they have done just fine before him and I don't see why they shouldn't do now without him. Maybe not as much of a focused audiophile brand anymore, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I have these as well with a Bluesound Node hooked up to them. I use x-bass on the Elacs and tone control on the Node (bass down by 2dB and treble up by 2dB) and this balances out the Elacs perfectly. Bass is more controlled and the mid and upper frequency range really opened up.

I’ve really been considering the Bluesound Node! Is it worth the money? Are you happy with that purchase?
@Raggy766

I’d imagine no one will see this, but did you test the elac speakers with a subwoofer? Does utilizing the woofer increase the mid-high range of the base speaker since the sub is taking over some of the low duty?

I’ve watched in several reviews that adding a sub really brings these to life!

I don't know about how their speaker division will end up but I think their Alchemy series amp, preamp, and phono preamp are pretty hi end sounding yet I never hear anyone talk about them. They must not have sold well I guess, maybe because of the price, but I thought they were pretty great. I hope they can recreate what Andrew did for them with their speakers in the future.

Who knows, maybe, I really dislike the sound of the UB5 with their aluminum woofer, sound harsh to me and I hate it, this speaker is nothing special and actually a lot of honest reviewers later walked back in their initial impressions, or it could be just me…

Some constructive feedback; in a situation like this where you review a speaker that uses a strong sound profile, maybe give alternative brands/models for those looking for differing recommendations. Say someone was interested in these Elacs but learn they are thick bass-heavy speakers thanks to your review. They wanted something more light/airy. What would those different sounding speakers be? Document those options at the end of your video and link to your reviews on those models where available. Drive content and flex that SEO piece.

@@Newrecordday2013 Just got my Elac Debut Connex setup. I first tried them without a subwoofer. I definitely see what you're saying in your review; rather muted and smooth sound profile. Definitely gives Andrew Jones vibes, if i'm being honest. These are def not bright speakers. They honestly sound like polished budget speakers to my ears. I then went back and hooked up an SVS-1000 subwoofer via the sub out on the back of the Elac debut connex speaker. I heard nothing. After some fiddling I realized the subwoofer volume needed to be cranked to the max to produce enough sound to blend with the bookshelf speakers. Very odd. I've got a support email into Elec about this. I was also only able to get them to work via bluetooth with my Macbook pro. USB doesn't work and minijack out into the RCA inputs produced very lackluster sound quality. I'm honestly a little concerned with the overall quality of these speakers and not sure I will end up keeping them. My first impression is these things may be rather expensive duds. The powered Klipsch Fives perform a good bit better.

Interesting little speaker and a great option for someone wanting something more than just a sound bar system. As far as Andrew Jones and Elac goes very interesting question only time will tell. However Elac does seem to just be modifying his designs and not doing anything innovative yet.

I too bought a pair of the stand mount Adantes (and the giant matching Center Channel). I got a heck of a deal on them and the stands. I then spent hours days weeks doing what Ron suggests and did the one inch at a time movement from the back and side walls and from each other until everything became magic. This also included the 'extreme Toe-In'. Which if you haven't tried that - give it a whirl. I too was quite surprised that they had a very short life in the market...

@@Newrecordday2013 but then that doesn’t make sense. If they were as good as you and I believed they were and they came from a behemoth like Elac with all that marketing clout AND designed by Andrew Jones! They should be a speaker they’d still be making in 20yrs. The unique design features are not a quirk there’s a good engineering reason behind all of them. Hey Ron, ever thought of reviewing super tweeters. Def at the hinterland of audio. Just purchased Elacs 4pi Plus2 (catchy name) which are built in to some of their higher end speakers. Omnidirectional tweeter. Def adds top end sparkle but not for the faint hearted with finicky nature of high frequencies. Elac Super Tweeters kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3vOlJeagpaBmZo

@dannyrichie9743
@dannyrichie9743 Жыл бұрын
Actually, no. Room correction can be effective in taming room gain in ranges below 200Hz, but it doesn't fix room related problems, and speaker response issues. That stuff does nothing for the signal smearing, poor resolution, and spatial cues caused by cheap parts used in passive filters. Room correction is little more than a band aid.

Not sure, but I'm not a huge elac fan, I gave em a chance, but the build quality was poor and performance and port design on most were poor with lots of noise and turbulence, not for me. Maybe elacs fault, maybe Andrews, don't know either way, I won't have another elac in my place or probably anything from Andrew for that matter, he's a nice guy and all, but there are much better speakers out there.
@formerhobbit5599

I also experienced the port noise. I bought a set of the Unifi UB52 and the port noise was what led me to send them back. To be fair, I experienced the port "cackle" when watching the new Blade Runner without a subwoofer. The speaker couldn't handle the extreme low frequencies at the volume I was using. Still, I do like Andrew Jones and appreciate his speaker designs.

ELAC will be fine as I’m sure they’ve taken quite a bit from him that will be put into use going forward. It’ll be interesting to see if the value of his ELAC speakers hold or even increase as they become harder to find. However, the timing w/MOFI will be interesting to see and hear given that MOFI could absolutely use some positive street cred right now. People will follow what Andrew does. I know I’ll take a peek. We all will to some degree I’m sure of it. Let Andrew spread his seed everywhere!
