How did you two learn how to climb? And how do you recommend other people where to get the skills? I have done a lot of tramping but want to climb the big mountains now.

Hey Tom, good question. It took us around 5 years to get confident while climbing. Started with a snow craft course and then tackling easy grade summits in winter like Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Taranaki via North, also Mt Earnslaw late in a season. Also doing easier grades in rock climbing, multi pitch, for training purposes close to our home. Then taking a course on how to do trad climbing. But most of the things you can learn online nowadays. Just find someone experienced who can oversee your development and advice you on whether you’re going into the right direction. We’re planning to do a few videos in future on how to progress from tramping to mountaineering, sharing our story.
