I haven't had to lace a wheel in over 40 years and found this video among a sea of others on KZbin. I do all my own construction and mechanical work and have well over 3,000 hours as a technical instructor, but literally, anyone can follow this video and do this job. Nicole, you are a truly gifted instructor, and may not even realize it. If you simply did a series of "Without the bullshit" instruction videos, you would be a KZbin star. I followed this procedure, and by the end of the video was smiling while putting in the spokes. This is a truly ENJOYABLE activity, made possible by your excellent instruction. If you are a viewer and researching KZbin on how to lace a 36-spoke wheel, you can stop at this video. You found the video you are looking for. Prepare to have a great time lacing your own wheel. Get ready to enjoy yourself, because by the time you finish, you'll realize the job is a piece of cake. You'll likely be looking for another wheel to do!

Thanks so much. Just finished a 36 spoke road wheel after repacking the hub and scrapping a wobbly rim with a couple of cracked spoke holes. Was able to find a nice used rim on Ebay and everything worked perfect. Your tutorial was as described - no bullshit and spot on. This was my third wheel build. My memory isn't good enough to trust lacing patterns. I've always followed KZbin videos but this is the first time I've commented. If someone is building a 36 spoke wheel, this is the one to watch.

Back when I was a youngster our local bike shop would redo a wheel for $2 + $1 for the spokes. But back then an adult could buy 10 beers for that 😂😂😂. Today, 10 of the same size beers cost about $65 minimum. No wonder my old man used to jack up 😂😂😂 Now I’ve been hijacked into the bike maintenance engineer position for all my grandkids, so I’ll be revisiting often methinks 😂😂😂 Thanks for posting

Thanks a million! Purchased a trike from Walmart and both rear wheels arrived complete destroyed. As no more in stock, I decided to fix it and purchased two new wheels of the same size, and used the new rims, spokes and nipples to rebuild the trike's rear wheels using the original hub from each side, which are different and unique for this model. Never done it before, but was able to do it thanks to your video to do the lacing, and learned the tensioning and truing procedure from other similat videos. Google and KZbin are incredible!

Great job! The part that helped me the most was when you start the 2nd group of spokes. That close in shot of where you start the 1st spoke of the 2nd grp was the clearest and easiest explanation of all the vids I've seen. I had no doubt after that part. Thanks

Ive watched this vid and ive watched another vid where the main difference is that you spoke both sides the same with first set of spokes THEN twist the hub, while other vids do 1 side then twist the hub then lace in the opposite direction....which not only looks wrong when complete, it makes it far more complicated. Your video is spot on, just did my first build and it came out perfect first try thanks to this vid!

Thanks for this straightforward & detailed video! So many other videos are missing small but crucial details, which can lead to much frustration... The first useful pointer for me was to go for the offset hole to the right when starting on the opposite side of the hub. Secondly, to rotate the hub clockwise when you start on the spokes going in the opposite direction. Thanks to this video I got it right on my third attempt.

You disscribed and showed every step perfectly. I wish i had seen this before i tried figuring it out on my own lol. Took me 3 and a half hours to finally get it right mainly because i tried using 2 different size gadges of spokes and come 2 find out that even though both gadges of spokes went to 26 inch tires, the thicker spokes were about 1 centimeter longer. Learn from my mistake so y'all don't have to figure it out the hard way like i did
