Strangely enough though, Light and Kira are fundamentally different despite them technically being the same person.

Light not only lost sleep but lost weight due to the emotional stress of killing two people. He had to go through mental gymnastics and bad rationalizations for him to get the conviction to kill more. The anime does not characterize Light in the most faithful way to the manga.

Normal Light without Death Note would admire and respect L. People really are funny everytime I said they would get along in a different universe where Light didn't have the Death Note or never got it back when he lost his memories. Light was genuinely a nice and likeable guy and it's incredible to see the change he have with and without memories of the Death Note. Both Light are always Light, the Death Note is what pushed the darker side of Light out which was always there but never had something that pushed it out. My favorite version of Light however will always be the one when he still didn't had a Death Note, usually I'm all for the crazy characters because they are cool but like kind and gentle/polite version with more genuine feelings and sense of justice is always going to be my favourite and I would have loved to see those two getting genuinely along.
