The reddish sphere berry thing is an "Oak Apple" aka "Oak Gall" I think. They are made when a wasp (or other insect) decides to lay an egg inside a developing leaf bud of an oak tree. The larva feeding on the leaf bud ends up making the tree turn the bud into a gall for defense from the wasp, which usually falls off the tree over time. The galls can be any color from brown and yellow to red in color. I think any type of bug, not just wasps, can cause those to form. It's just a defense mechanism from bugs being a parasite to the tree during early life stages.

Addiing on to this, these oak apples were used to make dyes and inks, that's why it stained your knife too. There's some strong pigment in there.

That is a gallapple, the gallbugg (stekel) lay an egg on the back sidec of the oak leaf and the leaf start to build up the apple to protection aginst the bugg!🐞🍃🐺🕊🇸🇪

When I was a kid, we used to make our S'mores with chocolate-covered Graham crackers, instead of using the chocolate bar & regular Honey Maids recipe, it bypassed one step, and made them a little less messy, and we started doing it that way, partly for that reason, and partly because I always just liked the chocolate-covered Graham crackers better anyway, even without the marshmallow involved.

Those little red balls are galls caused by parasites. Loved seeing the girls enjoying their river walk. The scooter pull by the girls were fantastic. They sure got their excercise in for the day.

I don't know the first thing about plants or fruit, really, so I'm probably going to be Waaaaay Off on this, but when Greg cut it open, to me it looked a little bit like some type of cherry, minus the pit, or I also thought it kind of reminded me of a smaller version of a passion fruit, with all the little seeds in it.
