Honestly this looks so much more doable than paper wrapping because you can always untie, and the flexibility of fabric is SO MUCH BETTER.

Alternatively for a more sustainable "wrapping" option, i love to put gifts in cotton tote bags, it's sustainable, it holds the gifts AND is part of the gift! 🌿

That's great! I also thought when she said 'scarf' that maybe the scarf could be a part of the gift and just have everything else wrapped with it! I would love something like this haha!

I've never heard of wrapping with fabric! What a great idea! The problem I see is, though, I don't have friends that sew, so I kind of feel it would be a waste and they might throw the fabric away. But at the end you mentioned wrapping with a scarf, and I think that's definitely doable. So much better than throwing away a bunch of wrapping paper. Always looking for new ways to be sustainable. Thank you for all the great ideas! I have to say, that is the most beautiful chopstick I've ever seen.

Make sure your friends know that it's reusable cloth for other gifts they will have to wrap! If you plan to give to people who don't sew, I recommend going to a thrift store to purchase fabric (Wendy lists options at the end), so unlike the linen fabric which will fray, the people who receive the gift can wash them if they feel like it, use them as hand towels if they're absorbent enough, or continue to gift them to other people. :)
@nimblehyena41385 жыл бұрын
Bandanas and lightweight towels and blankets work too!! Also, you can ask them to keep the fabric if you know they won't get use from it ;3

I bought some Christmas fabric on sale about 20 years ago and sewed simple fabric bags in different sizes. We have been using the same bags ever since as i collect them back after my family opens their gifts. Instead of ribbon, i use some wired picks with pinecones or greenery to wrap around the neck of the bags (reusable too). A set of bags make a nice gift for other people to use too. For a baby shower, wrap in a baby blanket. For a kitchen gift, wrap in a tea towel.

One thing I want to mention that WithWendy didn't is that if you plan on doing this, and making wrapping with linen or cotton, I recommend either warning the receiver that it will fray if it's washed, so keep it clean, or hem the edges yourself so they don't have to worry about a lot of loose threads later down the road :). Nonetheless, great video, Wendy! I shared it to my FB feed, too.

These are gorgeous! It would be great to see knot-wrapping for packaging-free materials too though as cardboard boxes are wasteful (unless re-used or upcycled of course). It's a slightly more awkward task, depending on how the gifts are shaped! Thanks for sharing these, an hopefully more people will be doing this for Christmas 2019 and beyond

Oh the rolled hem foot... I've been in your position a couple of month ago and had pretty much the same struggle. But after you figure out where to pull and where NOT to, it's very very handy. But let me tell you now, it only works on certain fabrics. The stiffer they are, the worse it works....
