The reason there was so much pyro on the pitch was because both the Notorious Boo Boys (Bohs ultras) and the Shed End Invincibles (Pats ultras) had agreed to not throw pyro on the pitch with the FAI. The fire warden, stadium security and FAI then decided to stop the fan displays just before gates opening led to both sides throwing more ordinance than what fell on Vietnam on to the pitch basically as a "Fuck You" to the authorities. Those displays are always amazing. The best being the "Legends are born in RIngsend" one for Shamrock Rovers in the 2019 cup final. The League of Ireland is growing in spite of the FAI, not because of it.

@@gallowglass2630It’s because there are too many field sports in Ireland. There wasn’t enough people to go around, and football was the loser. I think the rising support for the League of Ireland is down to the rising population of recent years.
@gallowglass263011 ай бұрын
@designatedproductions746 You have missed my point GAA may be only played here,but carlow GAA fans support carlow they don't support the most successful team which is at the moment dublin.Impossible to tell whether soccer is the most popular definitively the participation figures are a nonsense whereas GAA figures are based on insurance paid so there is a better picture of the participation however they are other variables that make it hard to say definitively whether gaelic football is more popular either.I don't think its really a matter of which is more popular because irish people are sports mad generally which means that on a given saturday or sunday people have a choice which sporting event to go to.
@gallowglass263011 ай бұрын
@@davidpryle3935 Yes .Also soccer generally have fairly small hinterlands to draw support from even in dublin,whereas GAA and rugby are organised on a county or province basis giving them access to bigger fanbases.

A word on the tifos. Both clubs were given guidelines regarding fire safety which were followed. Then earlier in the week told that that was no longer the case and could bring whatever they wanted. On the day Pats had set up and Bohs were in the process of doing so when 1 yes 1 person stopped everything. Fans tried to come to some form of compromise with him but were given no options. Pats were allowed keep a small number of their 3000+ flags and Bohs told to have dropped some of the main components of the display. Working together both groups just said no together.

Fair play Blair for covering our league. I was there in the opposite stand with my son as neutrals. We always go to the cup final, even if our team (Rovers) are not in the final. It's a great occasion and in fairness to Bohs and St. Pats, it was a really entertaining game. The attendance shows a huge appetite in Ireland for football and your coverage helps promote our game. Hopefully our dumb-ass politicians will stump up some cash for real investment in the games infrastructure here! Cheers!

@BlairMcNally11 ай бұрын
The front rows of seats were all cut off at the front to stop pitch invasions from the fans. That took a fair chunk off of it. There were also a lot of tickets given away to some people who evidently didn’t go 🤝

@@BlairMcNallyCheers for that Blair. Two of us traveled into Dublin with the intention of buying tickets for the cup final from the ticket master van at the top of Landsdowne road, as we have done for many years. This facility no longer exists, and you cannot purchase a ticket on the day, regardless. Everything has to be done online now. A ticket master bloke told us the match was sold out. So basically the match was sold out, but the stadium wasn’t, which is a strange state of affairs. We ended up watching the match in a pub on Baggot street. Anyway, that’s why I asked the question. Thanks again.
