I am a fan of Lutoslawski, but I didn`t know this wonderful composition. Thank you very much.

Polish composer Alexandre Tansman wrote this incredible Suite for Wind Trio in 1949. The Bes trio admirably performs it. I love having the score to follow!

Tonal music has a lot about it that is analogous to language, and that includes something very like a grammar or syntax. This music doesn't owe anything to that. It is a little like learning to read and experience, without parsing in the ordinary way, certain forms of poetry that are not conventionally "linguistic.". Some folks never either get the hang of it, or acquire the taste. Really, if you like it, have some. If not, there's a worldful of other stuff for you to enjoy.

Is it the harmonic language you are not really hearing? Or is it something else? I ask as, honestly it was a long time before I came to really enjoy highly chromatic music, I even remember angering my composition teacher back in University as my essay about Messiaen basically roasted the piece. I argued that it is the composers fault if the audience does not understand a piece, and only a select audience is going to have the ears to appreciate it. Anyway, here I am years later, and I roll my eyes if I hear yet another piece just using standard triads unless they are doing it very artfully. I am not saying you are ever going to like it, but our musical ears are always evolving and changing, so who knows? May end up a favorite of yours one day, and you will marvel that you were ever not able to hear it.
