Canada always has the Top Gun pilots. Love those Canucks.

Worked on them during the HUD refit in late 80s. They won the war games over all competitors and like it or not, Canadian CF-18 pilots are TOP GUN, they just aren't allowed to brag about it. Beat everyone who showed up, the Mirage, the F-14s, even the F-16 Flying Falcons, yes, they beat everyone and that is FACT!

Clearly, they must be very rookie pilots. If you look for 21 September 1986 demo in the F-14A by Dale "Snort" Snodgrass, it blows the doors off this demo like night and day. Dale pulled maneuvers like a series of barrell rolls at 600 knots in full zone 5 afterburn followed by a sudden "break" left turn at 9g to simulate burn and turn. It is mind blowing to see how fast he does all of those maneuvers. Of course, F-14 as a fighter is much superior to the F-18, but even with the acrobatic maneuvers stand point, the difference I can see night and day. Dale "Snort" Snodgrass was ace Top Gun pilot and instructor who had a dog fight against three F-5E Tiger simultaneously and he had "mock" gun kills on all of them.

Canadian CF-18s won the USAF William Tell Air to Air Weapons competition in 1996. They also won the very first "Top Gun" awarded at William Tell in 1972 using CF-101 Voodoos. Over the many years of this competition the RCAF has won several category awards at William Tell. The RCAF have some of the very best pilots of any air force in the world.

Canada deployed six of these jets at the outbreak of the Kosovo war out of the coalition's roughly 3000+ aircraft involved (including USN carrier-based jets) and the Canadians were hitting ten percent of assigned attack targets that were considered successful kills while flying that tiny fraction of the entire coalition's overall sorties. Command kept requesting more and another "six pack" was hustled into theatre with a third following by the end to make an 18 aircraft complement. By comparison, a single USN supercarrier brings a complement of at least 60 combat jets. Canada has a mere 66 remaining Hornets for the entire nation. Imagine if the military was properly funded in Canada. Still, they do an admirable and professional job with whatever they're given. Due to the limited availability of flying hours available to RCAF fighter pilots, they make maximum usage of the world's best simulators to practise missions and routinely "chair-fly" on top of that.

@@KLRGT500KR Are you kidding me dude. Ive watched that demo before and just rewatched it. All Dale does is a bunch of pullups and that so called Multiple Barrel roles your talking about is a SINGLE barrel roll! This F18 would be on that F14 like white on rice kid. There is a reason they overtook the F14.

I don't think SR71s are popular air show aircraft lol

t0ny1189 They're not lol, stealth aircraft aren't routinely flown for public view, and they're probably way more expensive, especially since the SR71 needs so much fuel

To anyone who doesn't like the idea of Canadian pilots being 'some of the best in the world' - consider this: Canada has a very small air force compared to most Western nations so the competition to even get in the cockpit of one of these jets is fierce - and it truly is the best of the best that make it through - and that's before training!. Then the training is such that Canada MUST make the most out of EVERY pilot and EVERY aircraft in its inventory so it comes as no surprise that Canadian pilots routinely show extensive skills in the air. This approach is also applied across the Canadian Armed Forces which is probably why the World Sniper Record is currently held by a Canadian.

Lots of debating goin on as to who owns this plane, dead giveaway that it's canadian is the RCAF emblem on it, and the false canopy on the ventral side. I'm pretty sure we're the only ones to do that...

Some USMC squadrons were adopting the idea for a time at least. Not sure if it's still happening. The Pentagon laid down some rigid rules about allowable aircraft paint schemes a while back.

I think Canada has great pilots because they have the advantage of space to fly in there own Country. I have noticed a lot of NATO Countries train there because of the endless land they have were people do not live %80 of Canadians live 100 miles from the US border so they have huge practice range to fly, some military bases in Canada are like 2 or 3 states big to fly and practice. huge advantage !
