One of the most BRUTAL performances in Roger Federer's entire career, making his opponent look like a complete amateur.
This was also the man who pulled off a miracle and beat Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros for the first time.

As a Rafa fan since years, it has always been amazing for me to watch how Roger effortlessly handled hard-hitters. They were always a big threat for Rafa due to their ability of taking the ball early and take out the time needed for Rafa to generate his spin. But when they were against Roger, they were most of the time helpless. Roger could generate their stroke power with much less effort and much more elegance, hit way better volleys to back-up this offensive type of game, and hit serves as fast as players who are 10-15 cm taller than him. Roger was a tennis anomaly. He could only be matched by another anomaly. Their names were Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. And they gave us the golden age of tennis.

Absolutely. That’s why so many players playing against Roger/Rafa/Novak in that era commented on the lines of - They thought they had a chance against Novak or Rafa for most part. They could keep it close. But when Roger was in full flow, they absolutely were made to look like Amateurs. Recently, Kyrgios and Dimitrov said the same thing. Roger just made them look “Stupid”. He was just a freakish athlete and tennis is so much poorer without him now.

Soderling could have been really good, but was forced to retire way too soon. He played his last match at age 26. Soderling always struggled against players who were sound at returning.

Soderling was a great tennis player. His style was simple but flawless, he did the simple things very well which is why he managed to achieve so much in his short time on tour. Very sad about his illness

I’m sorry for what happened, but to say his game was flawless? In this match, at least, his backhand seemed very vulnerable. Of course some of that was probably his opponent.

Hahaha what a cheeky title for a video! And yet you're so right. Soderling limped away from 3 losses he might as well have lost his soul. We've seen other Swedish players Borg, Edberg, Norman..& many others all mostly cool & collected. But Soderling had this "in your face" attitude. Didn't win him points. And in Spain he is not at all liked. It is important for a player to be a good sport no matter what so you neither get spanked nor lose your soul on court. Well said Wivo! Thanks lots.

Interesting analysis. Only problem is that you left out many other relevant aspects such as 2017 season where he beat Rafa 4 times. including the AO. Do you know where Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Soon to be Ronaldo and Messi are? Time makes mockery of us all. Did you see how Nadal was destroyed yesterday at RG? His supposedly best surface. First round knockout in 3 straight sets. Even if it were toothpicks or pencils that he was selling, instead of tennis shoes, he is a billionaire. If you think its easy then get any of the top 10 to sell their own wares.
