I 'used' to use and like Wix more in the past. They aren't what they once were. That Puroltor is a fine entry level filter even with the nitrile ADBV. The Purolator is a low drain interval filter so that rubber is fine. That Tech is the lowest level Purolator you can get. The One is probably a better comparison. I would take a Purolator Boss or One over any Wix anyday.

Like the old school WIX filters that was once made in the USA instead of the imported ones ,the Purolator filters are mostly made in the USA, both are good

This wix filter is actually one of the older ones... The new ones are made by the same company as Purolator now and look very similar if not the same... Mann-Hummel

The Purolator Tech is the same filter as the basic red-box Purolator, just packaged for the trade instead of the consumer channel. (This is not a guess; I asked Purolator and they told me directly.) They're typically available at much better prices than the red box consumer version. If you do frequent oil change intervals there's no need to spend more on a high mileage filter. I change at 3k and these are just fine for that.
@uglyhandgarage29276 ай бұрын
I agree... You are 💯 correct
@lukeWiz445 ай бұрын
I believe that to be incorrect. The tech filters have a SLIGHTLY different base plate and filter media. They also come with a plastic covering, and use a coil spring rather than a stamped spring. in addition, one uses holes vs louvers, and country of origin is different as well.

If the filer media is same or similar and you change oil every three or 4 months or 3 or 4 thousand miles- I wounder if there is any difference other than cost saving using the less expensive filter. But if you go 6 months or 5- 6 thousand miles then a better filter might be best.
@uglyhandgarage29278 ай бұрын
That is correct if you are going to extended oil change cycles I would definitely get a filter with a silicone anti-dramag valve Purolator One or the Boss would be a great choice

Your comparison is of two different tiers of filters. The TL "Tech" is a jobber level filter, Wix a mid tier filter. I've never before seen Purolator US made filter with a coil compression spring, always stamped flat spring. Without seeing date code, I'm going to speculate it's either made in China or Mexico, an M&H call. That said, looks ok. The Wix a good filter and made in US. Both look to be serviceable filters, the Wix because of silicone adbv, capable of a longer interval.
@uglyhandgarage29278 ай бұрын
From what I understand this is the entry level Wix and an entry level Purolator and I believe the only advantage was the silicon anti drain back valve in the Wix honestly.... This was an older wix and the newer Wix are owned by Mann and Hummel and have a new design!
@faxmen098 ай бұрын
@@uglyhandgarage2927 Entry level Wix is called Protec (jobber).The Wix shown is classic Wix mid-tier filter, only exception, it doesn't have Wix traditional thread/base end bypass piece. That why spacer used, so dome bypass can be used. While Wix and Purolator now both owned by M&H, they both still operate out of different factories. Purolator US in Fayetteville NC, and Wix in Gastonia NC. Opposite ends of the state. So when folks say M&H made, it doesn't make the factory distinction, even though it still holds.

@@faxmen09 great information thank you... I have seen the new Wix XP and the Purolator Boss cut open and they are the same filter... I think as time goes on they will merge design across both of the lines!!
@faxmen098 ай бұрын
@@uglyhandgarage2927 Yes, M&H moving to make the filter designs similar, and mostly towards Purolator type. I watched a vid on Boss and XP and the elements themselves look identical. Boss baseplate Purolator type, XP was Wix type. Date code can often tell which plant filter coming from. But, it is getting more difficult to tell.
