I just don’t understand the whole issue of these fish though, they take a good little bit to use all of your energy and you get rewarded with good amount of gold it’s basically just a middle finger to players that are free to play or even just low lvl players in general sense you won’t really be able to farm anything.

You mean to tell me KingsIsle nerfed a player-friendly thing in the game under the guise that it was a "bug that persisted for years"? The same developer that uses the mantra of, "We're a kid and family-friendly game," as a means to lie to ignorant kids and parents in order to scam them of their money? The same developer who runs a game that's extremely stagnant at best for the last decade due to their only source of players being people who played as a kid and are playing off and on due to nostalgia and already investing time and money? Who could've foreseen this type of thing happening? I for one don't think the answer to what the players should do in response is just rollover and find something else, but to actively withhold their money from anything but a subscription and constantly rail against KI until they fix the active scams in the game. Fix Pet Training, fix Gardening, fix the price of everything in the Crown Shop, fix the gambling simulator that are packs, fix PvP (at-large) being heavily pay to win, etc. The sole reason the game's still in such a horrendous state is because players have allowed it to get this bad, because it's apparent that KI's more than willing to try and forcefully milk the small player-base they do have in order to keep things going on their end, instead of actually making a good game that warrants outsiders to try it out.

I have been fishing Aero and using Winnow Ice and then a level 3 Ice, I have mostly been getting Sam Bass fish which sell for about the same as the BBJ's.

Just tested them. I used Winnow rank 3 fish and there are only two types of rank 3 fish. Channel Bass and Sam Bass. Channel Bass sell for average 1000 gold per fish and Sam bass 5000 gold per fish. It seems the Sam Bass range from 1 to 5 per pond with an average of around 2 or 3 which makes them exactly as likely as old Blackberry Jellyfish from Aero Village. Thanks a ton for this! This is huge and might be the best way to get gold now for free to play players in a way where it's actually slightly better than blackberry jellyfish before.

I don't really understand KI's reasoning for this. It seems like in between good quality-of-life updates (such as this past fall/winter with better UI) or last spring/summer (speeding up AOEs, late-join), they implement these annoying changes. Yes, gardening will always be superior, but this was a nice stand-in for snacks while I built up my plots. I feel bad for anyone who relied on this method; I think some people get discouraged by the patience needed in farming CP seeds. Not sure why it's being called a "bug" after being in the game for nearly 4 years. I can't see how the company would benefit from this... they're just pissing more players/customers off :/

Just confirmed with Cam that the rates for Jellyfish were so high previously because they were bugged. We have apparently been getting these fish off of bugged rates in the past. I refuse to believe that it was bugged. The jellyfish were in the game for very long time and all of a sudden they now "bugged". Like you said this heavily affect new players and not old players cause of the many places older players can get mega snacks and gold but getting those things are very difficult for new players and KI just need to leave it alone so that there is flexability for all players.

Ferric, thanks for doing this video. I posted in the forum an hour ago and will cross my fingers that they actually post what I wrote. This was a big part of my day (fishing these), so now it's another reason for me to go back to playing Xbox games. Also, I got the Golden Wheat Bread recipe from Krokatopia (vs. Dragonspyre). Please tell the KI team to consider changing their mind. Catching these fish wasn't hurting anyone, nor did it really matter if we were just farming for mega snacks. The ONLY reason I can think of is that they want us to buy mega snacks packs. Thank goodness I can still garden, although I hate to even type this for fear the developers will nerf that as well. Sam Bass sell for a good amount, fish them in Aero Village, I use winnow ice fish. I usually get a few of them, among school of ice fish. But they sell for the same as blackberry jellyfish. I didn't know this change was in effect when I started playing, and had watched older fishing guides

Errol Fynns can still be caught in the Aero Village (in the larger pond). They are rank 1 epic fish and the only balance fish there, and there's a few of them too. You might an average of 4 each resummon, and each one sells for between 1 and 2 thousand. It may not be as much as the blackberry jellyfish and they aren't used in any recipes, but they will help out.

I am looking at different fish. So far the best seems to be Nomad's Camp for Pharoahmari Fish (rank 2 Myth fish, sells for an average of 1900 gold and average 7 spawn per pond per summon).

Until I complete the first arc, nope. It's as if it's the only character on that account except for when I take a break for a week to do that month's Deckathalon and even that won't affect that new character until first arc is complete.

A bug, huh? Lemme tell ya about another bug, in a little known game called Minecraft. Back in the day, Redstone was a mess, with a plethora of bugs. But the devs never dared to change it. Why? Because the community was thriving by using those bugs, making contraptions of awe. In time they tidied up the code, but they made most, if not all the bugs into a feature. THAT'S how you handle that type of situation, not what KI's done, making what was for some a core mechanic obsolete. On a side note, can we just take a moment to look at my rotten luck? I've played for a while casually, and as soon as I learned how powerful gardening was, they removed double seeds from the member benefit, then when I started fishing for gold on my low levels, they do this XD

Idk if anyone cares about my thoughts on this, but here goes... I'm of course a bit of a grinder, since I'm on this channel, but I'm not quite as hardcore as you are. I just got to level 100 yesterday and I went the whole way without a proper pet, just equipped a baby pet with a blade item card. I spent some of my precious time grinding up the required crafting quests for golden wheat bread, and I started on getting some of that ready. I was gonna just make one triple double for this wizard I'm leveling up currently (storm). I don't really need that many mega snacks. But when the update hit, I only had like a hundred snacks and now I'm faced with a decision of either waiting ages to make the pet with normal snacks or farming couch potatos for hours, just to make one pet each time I start a new wizard (I'm not even sure if I'm gonna play through the game multiple times). I don't even play this game all year round. Point is, pets are honestly a really cool feature imo, but I just don't think I'll end up making that many of them. I had a relatively realistic way of getting just the couple hundred snacks I'll need every now and then, and I also spent time on unlocking that way, but now it's been ripped away from me. Fishing a couple fish every now and then is not the same thing as clicking on Tempest for hours. Idk what to do... Start suffering through 3rd arc without a pet? Wait around in the pet pavilion without membership and play minigames for a month (also I just realized I'd run out of gold for hatches)? Lose brain cells in Savarstaad Pass for something I used to be able to get easily? Any ideas for what to do next are welcome.

You went 100 levels without having a proper pet so I think it wouldn’t hurt you all that much to go without a proper pet until you train it with the mega and normal snacks you can get.

So, I was curious about doing an evil magma peas farm because it gives you 5 snacks where as couch potatoes give you 3 snacks per harvest. 🤔 So I can understand you doing couch potatoes instead of Evil magma peas 👍

The alternatives: -Fish in Aero Village starting with the back pond but fish indiscriminately. The average yield from fishing in that house is still better than any house I know, making it the best for fishing in my opinion. -Farm Halfang/Asrik in Wintertusk. They drop a piece of gear that sells for 2000 gold minimum every single run and can consistently be farmed in 1 turn, plus they have a chance to drop an amulet that sells for a lot of gold. In terms of solo gold farming that you can do on your own, this is the fastest way to actively farm gold that doesn’t cost energy, however you need access to the zone through membership or crowns, need to have completed the quests for these bosses to farm it on your own, and you need to have good enough gear to farm them 1-turn depending on your school and which boss you are farming. -Farm couch potatoes and harvest them regularly. This is by far the BEST and honestly ONLY method of gold farming you should do because as soon as you have one couch potato, you technically have an infinite passive gold source, and a full plot of them regularly yields so much gold that you will hardly be able to spend it (unless you’re spamming pet hatches in which case you have other issues which need to be addressed).

this really really sucks as a Free to Play player. I can't even farm troubled warriors- I have to wait for the five boxes event for couch potatoes. There's no reason for me to log anymore except for maybe beast moon. :( Really hope they change this.

I can see why they did this, but it doesn't mean I think it was a right or good thing to do. It was a helpful thing and wasn't much of a glitch or exploit since breeding is a hefty cost and farming takes a long time so making golden wheat bread with them was helpful.

Really frustrating finding out about this even a year later - I've been playing along with your OG budget walkthrough and just started fishing in Aero Village and wondered why I wasn't getting any jellyfish. Updates like these really ruin players' motivation, especially in a game with such an egregiously pay-to-win monetization strategy. Frankly that's why this game is doomed to die, I'm honestly surprised it has lasted as long as it has. Everything else nowadays is F2P with cosmetic microtransactions, and you can't even play for 3 full hours in Wiz's starting free zones. Add aggressive microtransactions that reduce grind to the fact you HAVE to pay either $10/mo or $280 to buy all the zones, and it's just shameful. KI is such a greedy company.

Sorry to hear that :( On the bright side at least, fishing is still useful because it makes Darkmoor Decks easier to craft as well as code wands but yeah, those are things you just need once and don't need progress in fishing for :( Meanwhile this was something that is useful over and over again so it was actually worth optimizing your fishing for.

This is why i have always said KI is a greedy af company. They want people to unnecessarilly spend a large amount of money for no reason. They create these ways for players to get by without people being presured to spend a ton of money and are now trying to make it more difficult for people play the game without spending a ton of money. KI needs to do better with their players and not trying to suck players dry of money.

Also, am I the only one here thinking this is only really hurting them? I mean, its an active mega snack farm. You can spend around 30 mins or more spending your energy to get snacks and/or gold. Meanwhile, if you autofarmed for a week, you should have a 69 plot, which you just log in for 5 mins to tend to and log off. They are actively reducing playtime while simultaneously screwing us over, tf? XD

Hello Ferric! First of all, nice video! I can agree and disagree with your opinion, but I do respect it. Like honestly you said that you could fish those jellyfishes easily before nerf. Yeah they cost a lot, but I'm sure that there are different fishes around the spiral and other great methods to earn gold. About mega snack I can say that it was way too easy to craft mega snack. Basically you could craft hundreds of mega snacks during zero energy fishing. Its really easy to get Couch Potatoes and start gardening. I've seen some lvl 60 players already farming for them. Personally, I rarely use my mega snacks and I have like 3k+ of them and I can say that if you really want gold or mega snacks, you just have to find different ways or just use gardening method. Its just people that were doing this all the time to get their mega snacks. I can understand them for sure, but in my opinion, everyone should garden at least on one character. Thanks for reading and hope everyone understands my point.

I would say that KI actively shot themselves in the foot with this nerf. They took an evergreen part of the fishing that everyone could benefit from, an alternative source of mega snacks and gold, and removed it. Now fishing only appeals to collectors, completionists, and those who want fish to decorate their homes; and when those people get what they want, it'll be a feature they'll never touch again. People aren't going to be making fishing pets, they wont be spending money on elixirs, and they'll reduce their playing time because it's something they dont need to do anymore. Why fish for snacks when you can just garden. Why fish for gold when you can just garden. Why give people different ways to play the game when they can just garden. Everyone *has* to garden on at least one character because it's now the only efficient method to get both gold and snacks. They just killed any value from fishing.

This does pretty much kill fishing, or at least make it significantly less appealing to just about everyone who isn't doing it for aesthetics/crafting. I do think there should've been more variety than catching a singular fish for one type of mega snack, but fishing would be a monotonous task even with plenty of variety. People did it because it was worth doing, because there was a reward. While we may not see pet derby levels of obscurity in store for fishing, we will certainly see a lot less people doing it. Nerfing side activities and making them not worth spending time/energy on is a questionable move on KI's part at best. Whether they wanted to sell more mega snack packs or to make fishing a less viable alternative to gardening/gold farming overall, fishing's value as a side activity has plummeted with this change.
