@@foxysobek8109 He's talking about how the paywall starts too early. Half of wizard city is blocked off to you unless you pay for membership. The first half doesn't give you much, only half an hour. All of Wizard City will give you about 2-3 hours of content, good enough to make a decision on whether or not you want to continue the story by paying for membership. That's a constant gripe within the community, and at times they *have* done that, but only on a select few weekends. Yeah it really needs to be opened up though before you hit the paywall. Something right up to before the last dungeon of Marleybone/dog world might be great, similar to the FFXIV approach of giving you a lot of content to let you go through before they make decide on whether or not you want to pay.

KingsIsle is of the utmost incredible absurdity when i comes to paywalls, they dont listen to the audience(unless is something else not including less money for them or something that gives them more money) they have turned a child game into a kinder ripoff. compared to all the worlds they have, i can not process through my mind that they have the balls to not gives the first world free. COME ON HOW MANY WORLDS THERE ARE? THERE ARE MORE THAN 10, if i remember correctly 10 would be half, or really close to it. Not even the tutorial world, NOT EVEN. (this is not hate against you, is just hate against a really wonderful and unique game thrown to shit because of paywalls that never change even tho 10 have passed by.)

I remember this game had a glitch where rental items (where you'd buy the item, and you only keep it for an hour or so,) could be given an unlimited amount of rental time just by changing your PC clock. So if you buy an item and move your clock an a year in the past, you'd have the item for a year. Me and my sister felt pretty proud of our selves when we figured that out and started flying around on our rare mounts.

Also the mini game cheats with the (forgot the name of the software), where you played doodle Doug, you punched in file numbers in the software and you just watch him dig, would give you mad gold. Good days, now I have purchased everything in crowns no membership or sub, took me about 400€, no regrets

I've been playing Wizard 101 on and off for over ten years. It's a great time killer that doesn't make you want to punch a hole in your screen (until you get to the new highest level dungeons, those are stressful). There is a LOT to do in this game, overall the biggest game of my childhood, and very fun to run with your wizards for years. :) The beginning 20 levels are pretty standard, but after that, you get a lot more to work with in battle!

Raven and Spider created the girl who's name I now don't remember as a vessel of hope and unity between life and death, only for the chains that hold the worlds together (the Polaris intro) to be in jeopardy. There are actually still commercials for Wizard 101 at Gamestop believe or not! I currently work at one, and W101 will regularly come in and out of the commercial rotations on our display screens, and it’s fascinating. The last one I saw was a few months ago (~March 2022) and it was the one with the witch and wizard fighting Malistare from like ten years ago (the animation for which surprisingly still holds up). The equipments prepaid cards are also still around and are regularly updated and switched out. I think a candy themed one came out about a month or too ago that I have my eyes on ngl. 👀 I’m also a regular player now thanks to a couple friends who also played as a kid. We got talking and decided to make group to play the game together and now we get together on discord once a week to play. It’s made a childhood dream of mine come true to play this silly MMO with a couple of friends who also enjoy it. And now that I have adult money that I can use to spend on anything I want, I’ve got a fancy car mount from the crowns store. Beep beep 🚗

Wizard101 has a fun and fantastic digital card game at its core. I was a F2P Wizard for more than a year and during that entire time after spending a few hours completing all of the story I would log on every day to farm the Harvest Lord for gold and mats to buy the best (and best looking) equipment/pets for my level, as well as some of the awesome higher-level Treasure cards to surprise opponents with in the Dueling arenas. On my Sorcerer, I used to rule the arena (It was a different time, now every low-level character has 50 treasure cards of Shadow Magic or wtf ever) purely because I had somehow figured out how to predict based on pips what amount of damage my opponent could or couldn't do in the space of any particular round and make informed, calculated risks based on that prediction. 9/10 times I was bang on and I won every game where my opponent was within 3 levels of me and didn't have high-level treasure cards or pay-to-win equipment from the store. I even beat a level 22 once as a level 12. For some reason Balance was just a monster (at the time) at maintaining the perfect balance between defense and offense, so I could outplay basically everyone on a consistent basis. It was honestly one of the most fun times I had playing an MMO, and to me the world of Wizard 101 beats out Harry Potter by a million miles because of it.

As a veteran of playing Wizard101, I've played this game since I was about 7 and stopped playing until I was 18. Wizard101 was genially fun to play as a kid. I had lots of fun playing. I would say the first arc which is Malistaire and the worlds behind Dragonsypre were pretty boring. Once you've reached Celestia the game gets interesting. With new cards and new stats that are brought in such as better accuracy points, defense, and attacks on gears and wands as well as pets too if you decide to have good stats on them towards your journey. Alongside the special stats called Critical, and Critical block. Wizard101 starting to have players dropping after the second age of PVP started somewhere around early 2014 or late 2013 it was released. Due to the fact critical chance is insanely unfair depending on the level of the wizard. The higher level you were, the less chance you would crit maybe if you were an Archmage at a level of 80. And if your wizard is around 55 a grandmaster you would have a high better chance to crit on your opponent than them. The game sooner starts dying out as well. How do you know the game is dying? Well, you can go to your settings and search for a realm to join in. These realms have unique names of certain professors and mons You can join in any realm as long as it is not crowded. These realms back in the day used to be 2 or 3 pages full of players. But now there's probably about 1 crowded server on the first page and 3 or 2 active servers called "normal" (I think that's what they're called) while the other pages have a really small amount of players hidden which server is called "perfect". Wizard slowly starts dying because these "kids" start focusing their life outside of the Wizard world and up forgetting to log back in. I've met about 15 amazing wizard friends which I haven't seen for 4 years on my friend's list. I would get excited to get home and talk to them or hang around their house or friends' house parties or maybe do quests. But now when I log back into Wizard101 in January. For a full month of the 10$ membership I have bought, I have played about 2 hours almost every day to see if anyone that I know would log back in. There's a little marker on your friend's list where I place a little star next to their names to know they were special to me. Once in a while, I would try to look at their characters to see how they looked like, but all I receive is a default picture of a little wizard boy as a picture, not their avatars. As I look at my friend's list, I just want to remove them all knowing that they'll probably never come back to the wizard world. To my best friends who I'll never see again, Mary WillowWhisperer (Exalted Life Wizard), Zachary LifeSpear(Legendary Life Wizard), Malvin aka Malvini (Champion Fire Wizard), Amy (6 mastered wizards who are all Exalted). And for those who may look at this message and read this and maybe remember me? My wizard is Dakota StrongHunter (Prodigious Death Wizard), and my other wizard my main is Angel (Exalted Storm Wizard). There are more things I can talk about how Wizard101 is dying, but right now after the Malsitaire arc, the story becomes enriched with Morganthe arc, alongside Grandfather Spider. Once I finished the 12th world of the storyline called Mirage where you defeat FatherSpider and his evil plan. Then you will enter a new arc in a new world called Empyrea. With the help of a newfound group called the Arcanum a group of philosophical wizards who's technology is way advanced than wizard city invites you under their wing as they try to stop Grandfather Spider and his troubles in resetting the spiral.

They just didn't care about it after some months and let it rot. It was only a money maker at that point. Many people have spent more money on there over wizards and for good reason.

The whole battle grid was really not it for me, idk but I just didn’t like it, pirate 101 had a great concept but the grid duel wasn’t it for me, and I think a lot of people. But for wizard 101 the 4v4 duel circle was just really unique and it could be better but it’s intriguing

A couple of my friend's and I actually still play this game every so often. Since we don't play consistently for long periods of time, having the option to buy each individual area as we go through the game actually works well for us. Didn't play for 6 months? Not a problem, I'm still working through the 10$ I spent 6 months ago.

I revisited this game recently. Good times. The monotony of the battle system got old after a while but it still has charm- like how they wont let you type out numbers as though they're swear words and everyone uses similar sounding words to communicate levels and damage stats

I really felt it in my heart when I saw wizard 101 again in my recommended. That game was my childhood and I also played the later Pirate 101 when it came out I was mind blown as a kid when they first added pets. I definitely love both Wizard 101 and Pirate 101 and they will always hold a special place in my heart.

@var1328 you do realize how publicity works right? many, many games are (completely) free to play but make millions on in-app purchases. calling free to play players moochers when the game is advertised with them in the spotlight is like calling bees thieves just because they take flowers pollen. Just like bees, more players are essential to keep the wizard101 ecosystem up, but not everyone has hundreds of dollars to spend on an online videogame that will likely be gone by 2030. Take a look at a cringe but successful game, Fortnite. completely free to play, makes millions a day. More players = more publicity and more media representation. more publicity = more chance someone willing to pay will stumble across the game. they will likely have friends who want to play as well. if 1 person gets just 3 friends to play, and only 1 of the three pays for things like mounts, dorm housing, etc, then all the money made from memberships not only increases as there are still perks other than locations, but they now spend that same money on other game items. I know this is a long response to a short message but I just find you and your way of thinking stupid so I felt like responding.

I mean console games nowadays cost at least $60 and when you finish playing that's it, theres nothing else to do. But wizard101 you could literally pay 20$ and finish the quests in 2 months, and do a lot of other activities in game afterwards for free.

The paywall was always a bother for me, especially as a kid, it was just out of range for me. But there is a way to get free crowns (although it’s slow as hell). So basically last year or the year before if I’m not mistaken I created a new account on wizard 101 just out of pure nostalgia. My original plan of course was just to play the free quests, but It ended up being brought to my attention that wizard 101 actually does offer a way to get free crowns. Basically if I remember correctly (haven’t done this for quite a while now since I stopped playing because I’ve been busy with uni), on their website, once you log in, it’s possible to complete quizzes (one was a grammar quiz, and I’m pretty sure there was one with geography questions). You can do a set amount each day, and earn a few crowns for each successful quiz. I think the max was around 100 crowns each day. The quizzes end up repeating themselves at some point, so once you figure out the correct answers, just right them down and repeat when necessary (this is to speed up the process, the questions themselves aren’t difficult at all). Once you save up enough crowns, you could potentially buy the areas permanently. For the first stages it might take around a week since they cost 750 if I’m not mistaken. But after that, they start becoming more expensive, so every now and then there would be a spike in the cost meaning you would take longer to unlock each area. This is why I mentioned it was tedious, there are so many areas to unlock and it would take way too long to unlock anything. But it’s still somewhat fun. Since you could unlock each area gradually, while you wait to grind crowns for a new area, you’d be able to play through the one you most recently unlocked. Apart from that, I remeber grinding xp inside friends dungeons (you can buy houses and one of the outside decorations if I’m not mistaken are dungeons that you could rinse of repeat). At first this may be difficult, but a lot of people are kind enough to let you use their dungeons, and even help you out. The drops for newbies are pretty good sometimes, and arguably it’s the best xp at lower levels until you unlock higher level bosses Hope this helped in some way, not sure if this feature still exists though
