Love the videos I think you guys should cover the world/worlds of Jeff Wheeler. Y’all should start out with the first argentines series books. I think the battles and intrigue would fit very well with your series and it is very similar to storm light and cosmre because of the multiple worlds and all of that. And a lot of deep interesting lower to get into but the first series is a pretty straightforward and extremely interesting medieval fantasy series.

@JadusMoltriel
@JadusMoltriel Ай бұрын
Agreed. I've come to feel that Sanderson's skill at world-building surpasses even Tolkien's. The fact his attention and efforts are divided amongst many individual worlds/ series within the Cosmere, while Tolkien was dedicated mostly to one world and system, yet each of Sanderson's worlds are built with a history and depth that rival Middle-Earth, speaks volumes. Middle-Earth might have a bit more created history and language than any one of Sanderson's worlds, but imagine if Sanderson only built one world and had poured all his focus into just the one for all these years? I think it would significanty surpass Middle-Earth's depths of lore/ building, and I don't say that lightly. As famous and popular as Sanderson is, I honestly think he gets far LESS credit and accolades than he deserves, and there seem to be a lot of haters who present extremely dishonest criticisms of him, for whatever reasons. Either jealous of his success, or for many of them, the worlds and plots are too complex for them to grasp, so their insecurity causes them to lash out and label it all as beneath them and basic. I find it frustrating that such a talented and loyal to his fanbase author gets that degree of negativity from some people. The man releases new books by accident, out of the blue, while consistently building multiple massive series all at once, yet other authors can't even finish one main series. Somehow though, Sanderson gets belittled by some people. It's absurd.

@@JadusMoltriel i imagine some of the hatred is because he is mormon, I am deeply anti religious and do find it hard to reconcile that the man has been mormon his whole life. (in my head, how can someone be deeply religious but write about the things he writes about) but he does genuinely seem to care about getting the characters right, especially in his depiction of mental illness, and i believe i read an article about Renarin being queer and how Brandon brought in 'sensitivity' readers to get the character right (whatever that is.. hopefully not sweet baby inc :) haha). I have seen some criticism of how he wrote female characters in his earlier books, you know the usual stereotypical male gaze writing female characters type stuff. but i feel like he has got far better at that now (though being a man, i cant speak for women who read his books. Lol)

This is absolutely spectacular! Truly. There is lore sprinkled in throughout the 4 absolutely massive existing books and this video succinctly covers it in a way that frankly saves a ton of time and effort. The lore is also crucial to fully grasping the entire Stormlight Archive story/universe. The work that went into this is invaluable to the Stormlight Archive and Cosmere fan community. I owe a huge debt of gratitude as this will make Wind and Truth even more enjoyable than it would've been on its own. Thank you so much for putting this together!

This was so mind bendingly good that I felt you deserved this glowing recommendation over on reddit. Thank you so, so much for this amazing quality recap. Below is the post I made that I am sharing here too as I think you deserve to hear how good I thought you did. "Firstly, I have no affiliation to this channel but the nearly 3 hours I spent listening to the recap they made, impressed me so completely that I think they deserve as much engagement as I can possibly drum up for them, it was truly an amazing video. It covers the Roshar in general, the deep history of the world and the solar system, and the events of books 1-4. Not only is the video extremely comprehensive but it is also extremely well conveyed. Topics flow brilliantly from one thing to another related thing all the way through. The dictation is extremely clear and easy to listen to and they do a fantastic job of imparting the climactic moments of the books with their own mini moments of gravitas in the recounting. I learned so much that I 'knew' but hadn't internalised from my own reading. And even though I listened to the whole thing, there are visual aids throughout that, just from clicking through at the end, I feel would be very useful. If you are a fan of Sanderson's Cosmere you own it to yourself to listen to this."

@@trite4654 I had the exact same question. And a follow-up question for anyone who knows the answer please - if the Oathpact only worked if all 10 Heralds remained on Braize and the Desolations occured when any one of the Heralds broke down and returned to Roshar, why is it that suddenly only Talenel is needed to be on Braize for the Oathpact to work? Don't all ten Heralds need to return to Braize for it to work? And if not and only one Herald is needed on Braize for the Oathpact, why were there ever any Desolations in the first place is Talenel never broke? Is this an inconsistency or am I just missing something?

@@crumbledor3 we won’t know how the door was opened until, hopefully, Wind and Truth. Some in the community believe he broke after 4500 years. Some believe Odium was able to open it or trick him into doing so. I tend to think the latter. Especially after what Odium was seemingly able to do to Hoid. Slash, the Heralds realized after the last desolation that Taln was the only one who died. But yet the Fused were not returning. They betrayed their oaths and walked away. Leaving Taln to hold back the gates of hell itself, alone. Absolutely Legendary

@Cslestial_Reach Understandable, although ironically, it was the opposite for me. I was sent to maximum security prison when I was a 19 year old girl, due to a brutal fight against my abusive father when I stepped in with a baseball bat to get him to stop beating my mom. He didn't survive, and thus, while it was understandable, my State has no self defense laws and decided to prosecute me due to how brutal it was. Rather than a Life sentence like the DA wanted, my Judge "only" sentenced me to 10 years due to my traumatic history from my father and everything he did to my family. While locked up, I discovered Brandon Sanderson, and Stormlight Archive got me through so much trauma and time in there. I read it, and his other Cosmere books, 6-10 times each, and it both gave me an escape to go to mentally from the horrors of prison and pains of my past, as well as characters I could relate to with their trauma, depression, healing, etc. I'm also on the autism spectrum, so I enjoyed reading about a lot of his characters who were different from the others around them. Kaladin's story helped me cope with a lot of the violence I had committed and been through, from the incident with my father to, even more horribly, many incidents within prison where I had to defend myself against predator officers and aggresive convicts. I watched a couple close friends die in front of me in there after violence, then another from an OD, and Kaladin's journey of healing after seeing people he loved die, and how he felt like he failed to protect them, REALLY helped me heal myself. I came home 14 months ago after serving the full 10 years, and anxiously await Wind and Truth. I LOVE all the Cosmere content I've found online since my release!

Hurriedly doing my homework because Wind and Truth came out the other day and I can't wait to read. I feel like I should be taking notes or writing essays about this now haha. While I watch this, I'm continually blown away by the complexity and perfection of Sanderson's mind and creativity, and my respect for him just keeps growing. Wind and Truth is going to be something extraordinary.

Thank you so much! This was an amazing video and even after reading the first four books, I have no idea about so much of this bigger picture story. I can’t wait to start the fifth book with all this new knowledge and context. Thank you again!

Wonderful breakdown! The art is absolutely gorgeous. Only thing I'd note is that under Unification of Alethkar, you mentioned that Navani chose Gavilar because she was politically-minded, but she tells him in Way of Kings that it was really because Dalinar scared her. She still loved him, but he frightened her and she didn't want to put herself through that.

This video is absolute fantastic. Very very smart to just keep things ordered by time and i cant imagine the monstruous amount of work that this video must had. I was searching for a recap since i read the books 4 years ago and i cant wait to recommend this video to my friends in the same situation that i was. Thank you so so much for this!!!

Very well done. It had been so long from my last reading of the books, I'd forgotten how horrible of a character Shallan is. I just hope Wind and Truth is less depressing than the last one.
