if you want to do lesser chipping, id recommend you dont soak it in water, let the paint dry then use a wet paint brush and gently stroke the surface until the paint comes off, dont attack it like in this video

Great tutorial. I really like the Vallejo chipping medium, but I haven't tried the AK heavy chipping yet. I think I'll give that a go on my next big terrain piece. Thanks for sharing!
@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, its great stuff indeed, ak interactive also sells worn effect which is a lighter variant, chipping is a bit harder and not as heavy as the heavy chipping or the vallejo one.

The heavy side would make a good effect for paint lifted up from rust under it.

Hi many thanks very helpful tutorial....one question for you. If you wanted to have a rust affects on ..say a black model.would you first paint the brown rust.wait for it to dry..then add chipping.....then after it has dried chipp away then paint over it again in rust.
@wizzardwargaming4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, if i would paint black armour i would use a primer, rust color, chipping medium, black paint (followed by highlights if desired) and then chip the model. After this reinforce the color with some highlights on the chipped areas.

wizzard wargaming ..many thanks for taking your time to explain the method of applying Vallejo chipping medium. Very very helpful.Without people like your self taking the time and trouble to show this we would never ever know...much appreciated by everyone especially myself I’m sure. thank you Dave..👍

Well this is a great help, thanks! ... Have two questions. 1) Do you thin the chipping medium with anything? In the video your's looks like a liquid, the bottle I received is more like a gel paste that won't go through the airbrush well at all ... and 2) After you've chipped and such how long should you give the model for the chipping medium to fully dry under the paint before you should varnish. (Would it reactivate or chip off once varnished?)
@wizzardwargaming5 жыл бұрын
To answer your questions, it should be able to go through the airbrush straight from the pot, the medium should be a bit thicker than regular paint (game color i.e.). You should be able to thin it down with airbrush thinner which should not interfere with the medium properties. For your second question, i continue painting when the model has dried after chipping, there is no real need to varnish it in between, but once the water has completely dried up the paint should not easily chip. The medium only works once really well, following attempts will be hard, if you wait to long between applying the medium and activating it, it gets harder as well in my experience so in general i do it all in a single go.
@carlmayne35195 жыл бұрын
@@wizzardwargaming Ok, That's excellent to know. I wasn't sure if the medium would re-activate with more levels of paint / water. It does give me a bit more confidence in trying out this winter snow effect on a tank I'm working on - Thanks again!! :D

does the cihpping medium (both of them) only work with airbrush?
@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
I have not tried it without an airbrush but i don't see any reason why i would not work. I would recomend the ak interactive one for a regular brush due to it being a thinner material. The paint you paint on has to be pretty thin also. All of that makes that i automatically use my airbrush for it. If i have some time this week i will try painting it with a paintbrush and let you know how it works out.

Great stuff! I've just bought some. Thanks for doing this. One question though: after making the chips, how long would you wait to use watered down paints? Basically how long does it take for the chipping medium take to 'deactivate' after being activated with water?
@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, after chipping i always go as usual, i wait untill the model has dried fully and then continue painting, you can if you want activate the medium again but it becomes a lot harder to chip again, so you don't really need to worry about scratching the paint after chipping. If you want to be absolutely sure seal the model with some matt varnish before you go on. Hope this helps.
@DeathByFrenchFry6 жыл бұрын
cant you just use a matt varnish, or matte finish on it so it doesn't have shine? doesn't sound so bad
@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
After chipping you can indeed, don't varnish before painting, otherwise you seal in the medium and you can not activate it anymore. The heavy shiny disappears after chipping for the largest part anyway.

@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
I would asume you can use that, since other thinner products don't activate the medium.

is it possible to mix the medium with Vallejo thinner, it sprayed terrible in my airbrush like the right half on your testing piece. of what dit i do wrong
@wizzardwargaming6 жыл бұрын
When the bad effect happens, you have held the airbrush to close to the piece or you applied to much of the medium. Its a pretty thick substance therefor you want around 25 - 30 psi of airpressure from your compressor. Keep the airbrush at around 20 cm from the panel and spray the medium on in a thin layer, if needed you can after a few minutes go for a second thin coat. I am not sure if you can thin it with thinner, i think you can since thinner doesn't activate the medium. You could also try the AK Interactive heavy chipping fluid, its a lot thinner then the vallejo medium and will pass through the airbrush easier.

I got there new chipping medium yesterday different bottle from my hobby shop for a test review to try and its absolutely bollocks! It's very thick but iv been up night testing different ways and it works with a very very thin mist ofnthe product over the surface nothing mear likenthe amount you had here that's what I done to start with and it all peeled off soon as water got under the paint! And you have to chip it yourself completely crap! Honestly try AKs worn effects for chipping and worn paint they definitely have cracked it! Its perfect! Very fine thin layer with damp brush to get worn effects or cornice chipping like the hairspray look doing it controlled with a brush use a bitty more water! Honestly AKs worn effects product really has got it down to a T what ever they use for it but its perfect! I won't be using anymore of the vallejo one! I have to give a review to the new stock product in the shop today and it's not looking good!

It works better if you hand brush it on and try it with Tamiya paint and missions model paint are good only thin with water but Vallejo products is not a good idea for chipping or mig paints or ak paint .and never spray water on the model only use a damp brush if you but to much water on it you have no control over the chips . Trust me I model full time 14 hours a day i make models for movies set and museum the best Product to use a just hair spray it does not matter what kind of hair spray it is 2 light coats. It much cheaper than model products and it the same thing with out a sent
