I still get so irritated every time I think of the produce 101 blue vs pink teams thing. Like... wtf. I recently rewatched both stages because the algorithm recommended them to me randomly and once again was struck by just how much favoritism went into the pink win. I’ve never understood the hate for yeonjung either. She has such talent. She’s far from ugly - even the pickiest netizens should realize that at worst, her visual could be considered average, but definitely not unattractive. Just because she doesn’t look like freakin’ yoona doesn’t mean she’s ugly. Her spot in her group isn’t even the visual, it’s vocal lmao

having the same height and weight, I am being scolded for being too thin 😅 ideal korean weight standards as having having underweight BMI is so sad. Being less than 50kg with such height is frowned upon here(her lightest weight in this vid). Rather than being called sexy, you will be teased as stick and bones... Ironically people on the heavier side target you as their body goals so those trying to loose weight often pinch my sides or feel for flat tummy(w/c i don't welcome) . So thankfully I'm in a country where having normal BMI is the most suitable

You're right. I'm the same height as Yeonjung (around 165cm) and weigh around 155 lbs (slightly overweight, I know). I used to weigh around 120 lbs a few years ago though and for me that was quite low. She has a perfectly healthy weight at the lower end of the BMI range and is criticised for it. Female idols seem to be expected to be in the (very) underweight range.

I know what you mean and I am still mad that the blue team didn't win BUT Somi was 14 back then. She was just a kid who probably didn't know what she was saying would come out like that. After that show, Somi actually lost a lot of her confidence and struggled in her own way to build it up. You will understand this if you watch the Unnies show. I always thought the “greedy” scandal was the stupidest sh- ever. This was a friggin survival show and she had SEEN that talent can’t always win, her visuals were made fun of and the only thing that was keeping her up the rankings was her viral singing ability. She wasn’t any more greedy than many of the girls on the show and there’s no reason not to be. Furthermore she was like 16-17, a kid. Most others would be able to get away with that easily... Yeonjung has always presented herself as bright and positive since but people still gave her sh- about it. I’m really proud of her for taking good care of herself and seeming more happy after all this time despite everything that happened to her.

The strangest thing about k-pop when I first got into it is that groups actually have a designated position for someone whose entire job was simply to look pretty (the "visual"). Being pretty is not a talent! Lots of idols get scouted solely because of their appearances. It's so strange to know that you can have a career in a group that sings, raps, and dances, and you don't have to be good at any of those things as long as you're pretty. Korean culture is messed up.

I guess it isn't about just being pretty, you need to have a natural charm, graceful moves, something eye-catching while performing, it usually leads to acting skills in order to debut in movies. You may be scouted by "Beauty" but got to train in vocal and dance as well until reach an average level at least, and if they don't get other position it's bc other members are way better in those areas but it doesn't mean you're less worth to be an Idol. A bunch of my older videos seem to be getting blocked in several countries due to new copywrite restrictions being made on the music. It's a pain in the ass but I'm working to get them, all back as soon as I can, I'm just gonna remove the songs all together to avoid this bs. Meanwhile I'ma try to add a little update for some of these. I think for the most part all of Yeonjungs weight changes were pretty normal and healthy. Both her weight loss/ gain looked good and nothing crazy. She had one worrying time at the end of 2017 but Starship was truly pushing all the girls way too hard to diet for Save Me Save You, Seola was also at her worst then. With all the pressure and biased hate she got from Produce 101 it's no surprise she may not want to participate in an upcoming reunion with IOI (could be fake news again so I left this info out) Most idols tend to crumble under this kind of hate and pressure, especially the IOI girls. Chaeyeon, Sejeong, Mina, Chungha, Yoojung, etc were all practically harassed into losing weight for being fat-shamed, yet Yeonjung really seems the most unaffected. Her mental strength is very strong and I think part of that is the "arrogance" K-Netizen keep bashing her for. She's insanely talented, one of the best vocalists of the 3rd gen, and she knows it, she's not pretending to be humble and she really believes if she's talented enough she can succeed, and so she doesn't let herself get obsessed over being too thin, this is just my guess though. I get the impression she's not so focused on her "visual" because she's talented enough without it. But this may also come off as appearing a sore loser for not always understanding being an idol is not all vocal talent.

@@28telmii Visuals are very important to Koreans,sometimes even more than talents. Especially for idols. If you look at the most popular members of a K-pop group,isn't it often the visual ? I remember Soyeon from Gidle saying that people did not want to hear her singing because they couldn't look at her (she was too ugly to them, it is so upsetting to me as she is such a sweetheart and one of if not the best rapper of her gen) Also it is my opinion Yeonjung was not very friendly in ioi, both to the girls and on variety shows. She seems to focus on her vocals only, not trying to acknowledge that she is an idol, not a solo singer

I guess the great thing about WJSN, the varieties of sizes in that group was able to tone down a lot hate regarding her weight. None of them is stick skinny, most of them are medium and quite toned, hence the comparisons are less drastic. So fuller girls like yeonjung and chengxiao doesn’t get much hate like momoland or pristin fuller member. I mean, haters gonna hate but i’m glad its not the worse
