One comment really stuck with me. He recognized before engaging the shooter that he was unprotected. “I wished I had deployed my rifle rated plates”. He did not take the time to put on armor, because he was so preoccupied with getting in as fast as possible and saving lives. And when he realized he didn’t have it, he didn’t suddenly say “oh somebody else go first” he maintained his lead position and put his life on the line, knowing full well those could be his last moments. And in doing so, he had the shooter down in less than 3 minutes on scene. THAT is a true hero.

This is why stress training is so important, anyone can shoot and hit paper targets but when the targets shoot back you need to stay composed. One of the first things I noticed when watching his body cam footage you have a very close a clear view of his thumb around the grip and periodically you'll see his thumb manipulate the safety lever on or off, his thumb was NOT shaking at all!. I'm not saying that means he wasn't nervous but to me it means he has control over his body and mind in ways that only intense training can achieve in a situation like that. Bravo

I feel really bad for him. You can tell that no matter how much people laude him as a hero and praise his response and reaction, he blames himself for every one of those deaths, running through what ifs, and hypotheticals, being eaten up by the question "could another person still be alive if I had just done something differently?" You didn't just do your best. You did the best anybody could ever have done. There was nothing left on the table. As much as it hurts, you couldn't have done anything more. Short of being Superman himself, this was the best possible outcome, and that hurts, and that sucks, but that's not your fault.

Defunding police doesn't mean removing training or active response units, but shifting community response to civilians because a huge proportion of police calls nowadays are for mental health and substance abuse.
@bullet996 Жыл бұрын
@@lezhu6856 lol shifting community response to civilians; who are neither trained or are even allowed to be armed if gun control laws passes, is a horrible idea. No offense but mentally ill people can be armed as well; up here in Canada a RCMP officer was stabbed to death when responding to a mental illness call.
@Leroyscaand Жыл бұрын
@@bullet996 just stabbed? Yup that’s Canada
@yourenotthatguypal3483 Жыл бұрын
I don’t believe that defunding the police is the proper response, however reformation imo is the way to go. Specifically more rigorous training, deeper background checks (i.e. speaking with former classmates and friends to get a good idea on the potential officer’s character, there are too many of these guys that got bullied in high school, are given power, and immediately start going on power trips). Monthly physical evaluations as well because a lot of these patrol officers are unfit and out of shape.
@Amoogus Жыл бұрын
@lezhu6856 it doesn't need defunding, it needs a reallocation of funds. Small police departments can be left with next to nothing in terms of funds.
