trevor’s character really out there taking the entire concept of “trust no one” to a new level , like: “SURE barbara that man may LOOK like our waiter, but i will not be fooled again - im gonna need to speak with a manager”

but how do you know it's the manager and not just some guy in a suit? and how do you know it's a restaurant? the sign is just letters on a wall, it's not necessarily THIS establishment that they are referring to. maybe it's an old sign left over from previous owners. that's why Trevor's character is sociopathic - social trust is implicit, tangible and it's everywhere, society can't function without it. I think he absolutely understands what's going to happen, and he actively wants to lure people into this situation. afterwards, he just uses demagoguery and manipulation to obscure the picture and paint the victim as the perpetrator. typical manipulative BS if you ask me

I absolutely love getting to see these brilliant comedians discuss their sketches. I don't think it really gets said enough, but WKUK doesn't get enough credit for how good it is. WKUK is absolutely in the same tier as Key & Peele, who I would also consider to be masters of Comedy. Please keep up the outstanding work guys. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I'll watch literally any and all content you guys put out. PS. I really hope that we will be getting a WKUK Complete Series on Blu Ray at some point.

I don't think the scene was too dark, it looks nice, honestly. I love you guys doing these commentaries, so many years later. I love the DVD commentaries' and I've been so happy about all this new content; super excited to see scenes in HD, too. I just discovered and started watching Trevor's 24-hour Trev-a-thon and I'm on hour 11 and so far it's one of the coolest "TV" moments I've ever seen. Trevor is a fantastic host and both Timmy and Sam make great crew members and co-hosts and I can really see you guys making more even though I know your schedules would never permit it. Trevor really handled live calls and kept discussions rolling even as his brain melted throughout the many hours on air and it was a fun to watch throughout. I hope to finish the rest very soon!

What I love most about the tar toast mythos is it seems like half of them side with Darren and the other half side with Trevor It's a split issue and both of them have a decent case for their side. And an answer was never given, other than 'the man is just eccentric and likes standing around with tar on toast'. I guess there would be no reasonable explanation for doing that

I always thought the sketch was metaphorically referencing the tobacco industry. It actually makes a lot of sense interpreted that way, which is surprising since it was apparently unintended. There was an old commercial that made the comparison between cigarettes and eating tar on toast, which I only know because it was recommended after I watched the sketch on youtube a long time ago.

This is the exact definition of ‘society’. This shows exactly how society (any society) works, and how differences in culture look to each other. It’s all societal constructs and unwritten expectations and assumptions (which is what keeps our society alive). Trevor’s character blends right in but then instantly betrays every expectation. It’s the reason spies in movies can go almost wherever they please if they’re doing undercover work and look confident about it.

You're reading waaaayyy too far into things. There is no symbolism at play during this sketch; it's literally just a goofy skit where Darren eats what he thinks is food and engages in a hostile back and forth with who he thinks is some jerk waiter but ends up being a powerful executive
