What a lot of people forget is Wladimir wasn't this great fighter until Emmanuel steward got a hold of him and turned him into this great fighter. Unfortunately he happened to be in a poor era but he was still a hof no matter what
@Priceluked5 ай бұрын
Wladimir mainly needed some better defense and a confidence booster and better mindset for fighting. Wladimir was not what could be called a “bad fighter” necessarily he just wasn’t truly championship level in his mentality. When things started to go south on him like the Sanders fight he would just keep throwing back but get mentally overwhelmed and swarmed. Steward also emphasized the “boring” but safe strategy for a big man like Wladimir to win for so long, the same he taught Lewis. Lewis arguably just had slightly less power, a bit more diversity in his punches, and a bit more willingness to risk himself, hence why he eventually was caught and KO’d by Rahman late into his reign.

@@smoothcritical1 27/28 is the early prime age for most Heavyweights. WK aged well, Fury and Joshua have a very good win on their resumes, but that was not prime Klitschko. "Had Wlad lost against Haye or Povetkin, his "best years" would be retconned further." Not for me or anyone with objectivity, i would have given them full credit for beating him. The Purity and Brewster losses aren't legit imo. Shouldn't have fought Purity this early in his career and he was winning vs LB before he gassed out. A lot of questions about this fight but i won't go any further. The Sanders loss was legit, full credit to CS. I think WK could have done better in a rematch but no excuses, possibly a bad style matchup against an underrated, underachiever huge puncher with fast hands. Why criticise him for the performances vs Williamson and Peter instead of praising him for getting in the ring with two very dangerous fighters? Peter was a high work rate pressure fighter with physical strength and a great chin. Williamson a fast, skilled and hard punching solid HW. Plus a couple of the Peter KD's were due to loss of balance, KO'd him in the rematch. And WK was never KO'd cold, but TKO'd and never quit. Fury was dropped by fighters with a much bigger size disparity but you criticise WK for being dropped in these instances? I was defending Fury when everyone was calling him chinny. HW boxing is not an entirely different world compared to the lower divisions, but there are some differences, one of them being that the smaller man has a much better chance against the bigger one, often being a harder fight, due to an edge in endurance, speed and coordination. WK never had issues with fighters of his size, often dropping them with single punches. He would beat other notable big HW's too, like Bowe, Lewis, Wilder or AJ. Fury is 50/50 in his prime because of Fury's skill but i'd give Wlad a slight edge. The notable "smaller" fighters he beat often got to a title shot by beating people of WK's size along the way. Povetkin was a legit puncher, who hurt guys bigger than him, unlike the fake, manufactured punchers who ko mediocre opposition half their size. Haye was a massive puncher as well. I don't understand the critisicm for "going the distance" with some fighers, as if that's shameful. He fought skilled and iron chinned opponents along the way. Everyone goes the distance sometime as long as they fight proper opposition. Povetkin was a good win but not a very good performance, yes he clinched a lot but when they were fighting, what i saw makes me believe he could still beat him, albeit in a harder fight. He didn't get schooled by Fury if you score the fight the way you are supposed to, meaning clean effective punching being a basic criteria. WK was blocking and slipping Fury's punches in many instances, managed to counter with his own jab especially the early 4 rounds. WK won about 4/5 rounds, most of the early ones and the 12th. Fury's body language and showboating made him seem more dominant than he actually was, like in the first Wilder fight. In any case he boxed well but it was not a schooling. P.S Also fixed the first comment to 1.5 years, ok now?😆
@ironfist7682 жыл бұрын
@@smoothcritical1 "Wlad was a year removed from one of his career best performances when he beat Fury but in all sorts of ways you devalue the win." You completely missed the part where i said "WK aged well, Fury and Joshua have a very good win on their resumes" and that WK/Fury at their peaks is a 50/50 fight. If i devalued Fury's win i would say that peak WK beats him easily, same for AJ, but i never stated that because i am objective, both of them are top HWs. What else should have i said, that Fury plays with him in any case? I'm sorry but no, i disagree. I tend to think a fighter's years like a bell curve, where there are the his "prime" years and the "peak" which is the period of the best of the best years of his career, where the athletic/skill peak and possibly the best wins take place. It's not the exact same age for every fighter and each one needs a certain period of development to mature physically and technically. WK was not very far from his peak years at 39/41 but he was still a very good version of himself, at the end of his prime, that's why he had a great performance vs Pulev. Similar situation with Roberto Duran post 1980, not at his peak, later prime years in the early 80's, managed to give some amazing performances. AJ matured as a fighter quickly and fought very high level opposition by qualifying in the Olympics, despite what we think about Savon and Camarelle, he would at least get a bronze medal and that's all the experience you really need to enter the pro game as a solid prospect. I don't see the current version of him beating WK, best chance he has is with the 2017 style, which was very technically sound in many instances, albeit a bIt too aggresive sometimes. Fury had valuable experience in tough fights before facing WK too. In any case, i find it hard to believe a man at 39/41, with 65+ fights, boxing 25 years+ is closer to his peak than a fresh 27/28 year old. More veteran skills for sure but that's not the only thing that matters. The A side argument you make, i don't agree. Being the A side doesn't guarantee a win. Plus i don't agree with the nitpicking you are doing for him going the distance vs ranked fighters or apparently not fighting punchers - he fought those he was supposed to fight, that's what we need to know, pointless observations imo, plus fighting Povetkin and Haye in his second reign alone is enough for me (i don't understand how Povetkin is unimpressive to you). The thing is he beat those guys and there's nothing wrong with having trouble with good fighters sometimes. How many times has Fury gone the distance against lesser opposition that Wlad's? I believe you are trying to say that Fury would have beaten him anyway at his peak, which is fine by me, but what i have an issue with is discrediting his resume to make his seem an easier fight for Fury that what it would actually have been. Also, Wilder 2 is a great win but it was to Fury's benefit that Wilder can not fight on the back foot and is one dimensional, in contrast to WK. The other criticisms you make, i get it to an extent, but we are mainly talking about resume, not excitement etc. I understand though that at 41 he was careful, probably a bit too much but anyway, it would not guarantee a win to go for the kill vs AJ in the 7th. Fury didn't win 10 rounds. The public sometimes is right and sometimes not, what matters is scoring a fight the way you are supposed to. All the clowing he did is irrelevant to me in how i scored the fight, clean punches being the main criteria. Instead of paying attention to Fury's antics, i noticed WK slipping and blocking punches too.
@ironfist7682 жыл бұрын
@@smoothcritical1 We are going in circles and we clearly disagree in many topics, don't have the time to keep on doing this and i never intended to completely change your mind but i think you are unfair in some instances especially at the resume criticism, you underestimate the importance of wear and tear that decades of boxing and training add to a fighter (again, WK at 39 was a very good version of himself but i don't believe he was closer to his peak that Fury) and you underestimate the fact that when we talk about multi-dimensional, skilled fighters like WK/TF the style matchup doesn't produce only one type of fight if they fight multiple times. Also the WK that fought AJ wasn't exactly the same fighter stylistically (tactically-wise) that fought TF-more motivated to regain the title after losing and the rematch never happened - Yes, yes, i know AJ/TF are not the same person. But it's clear that WK fought more aggressively than he did vs Fury. But i am fair to Fury and i mentioned it's a 50/50 in any case. When a high profile fighter proclaims himself to be the best, he invites criticism whether we like it or not but i always try to be fair. I will add a few more things and i will leave it there. How AJ performed vs Whyte is competely irrelevant to how he performed vs WK and how Fury did vs Whyte. Different styles and mentality (old amateur rival he lost to and a volatile character in a highly anticipated UK showdown vs an ATG HW champion). He improved massively as a pro before WK and fought with skill and determination. Wilder is a very good fighter. Not multidimensional imo, crude backfoot skills (should have clarified that in my previous comment). Dangerous for anyone and i'd pick him to beat the majority of the top 10 at his best. Good win for Fury but i don't think he could do the same with others too without paying the price. Compubox statistics are not always accurate imo because i've seen multiple times blocked punches being counted. Let's assume they are, 30 more punches over 12 rounds is not the most impressive feat in a championship fight ever, plus WK won the 12th, if they were so damn effective he should have lost the last round. Also the percentages of landed punches for both are the same for jabs and power shots too. I don't care about clowning and all that, neither about what the public thinks about it, it's just entertainment. How dominant you actually are is judged by how effectively you punch your opponent.
