@randy johnson Being white or not has nothing to do with the comment that I made about this fight. If Mercer was older and passed his prime years in this fight, then that is his problem not mine. He fought Wlad who was in his prime years and at his best, and that was one the reasons why Mercer who was an otherwise great boxer got beaten like that in this fight. To be fair to him, this problem is not unique to Mercer. Even the great fighters of all times and my heroes such as Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Sugar Ray Leonard, and others continued to fight until they were older and have passed their best and prime years in boxing. I never wanted them to continue doing that. Anyway, they continued to fight until they got beaten badly by younger fighters in their prime years. In those cases, it doesn’t prove anything for us the fans to say, “oh, if my favorite boxer fought this younger fighter during his prime years he would have destroyed him.” I am not white, and so stop telling me that I am white. This is just unnecessary and sheer nonsense of trying to bring into discussions about boxing irrelevant racial issues and stuff like. Again, I don't care if Mercer is old or young. The fact is Wlad beat him convincingly.
@FKtdyvan5 жыл бұрын
@randy johnson You are so pathetic about your preoccupation with the race of people. Even if I were white or anything else I would not care about your so-called racial accusations. Not all of us around the world are preoccupied with race as some of you are in parts of the world and in countries like the United States and South Africa where race has been a major preoccupation of people and rulers for several centuries up to now. From now on I will take on the new racial identity that you have given me of being white just based on a disagree with you on a boxing issue. When you see me in real life you will then realize that you don't know what you mean by someone being white. Wladimir Klitschko has had a more productive and superb boxing career than Mercer. Just accept and get over this. This has nothing to do with the false racial identities that you want to assign to people who disagree with you.

I think Golata should have fought the Kkitchkos,When he was on range and dialed in dangerous but extremely unpredictable that guy.

Wasn't long after this fight, Manny Steward became Klitschko's trainer. Klitschko dominated the HW division for close to a decade with Manny as his trainer.

If Mercer could have lasted one more round the Ref would have had to have the doctor check Klitschko's knuckles. They were taking too much abuse from Mercer's face. The doc would have stopped it.

This was when Wladimir's boxing style wasn't that boring. The older and more experienced he got, the more boring and one-sided his boxing style became. When I saw the Klitschko's in the late 90's, I was hoping that they would dominate the heavyweight division. They did, but they also killed the heavyweight division. Now, with Fury and Wilder, we have some promising champs who can change boxing again.

This was not the best Ray Mercer. Something was wrong with him. He looks out of shape and without any kind of motivation. I would love to know what caused Mercer's poor performance. At his best, Ray Mercer would have been an extremely dangerous opponent for Klitschko.

Wish they let it go on longer, always fun to watch Mercer get some years shaved off his life

I like Wlad's aggressive style here alot better than the jab and grab style he adopted later

Having a good chin can work against a fighter in instances like this. Taking all those hard shots has a long term effect.

@@bobshenix its probably getting knocked out by Corrie Sanders and then Brewster that prevented him being in mix for fighting Lennox Lewis. I feel Lewis would have knocked him out. He developed style to protect chin. Jab move back. Mercer in comparison would stand and fight. Klitschko could not do that really.

Mercer is old here, but overall, he was awesome. One of the best chins ever. Naturally big-boned and strong, great jab, good quality punching (although fairly weak defense). Had he been a bit bigger like Foreman, he'd have been just like Foreman (devastating power), but technically a much better jabber and puncher.
