The XK A160 I purchased looked so nice but as it turned out my experience with this one ended up in failure. I wouldn't recommend to this plane due to the problems associated with it.
The flight controller isn't working properly. Some users never experience it and others do, but it's still a problem. A lot of suggestions have been made to fix it but there's no cure for it. I wouldn't consider just moving the antenna or hole in the control horn to do a quick fix.
Overall the construction is to heavy and still the main wing has a very severe flex to it. Wing loading is high and to stall and spiral down is to easy. The plastic parts on the landing gears will break pretty quick. Wiring and the plastic screws that hold the wing are other things poorly designed.
In the end I gave the crashed plane to my kids to play with and moved on to better planes so I don't have it any more. I did consider to purchase another one and give it a second chance but I can't see this plane ever becoming something I like.
Instead I would look at the Eachine 400mm warbirds as they are fantastic micro planes. To me they are better than the UMX micro planes and less expensive.

I have one too, as a model she is a real beauty, makes you fall in love with the original Piper Cub. As a flyer, not so much. I have problems with the elevators, and the range of motion on the rudder and aileron seem inconsistent. The land gear in theory is nice, but mine has fallen off or fell to pieces in the slightest crash.

I've bought 2 of these and taught my Grandson to fly with it. Amazing stability with the gyro made it easy and we have had heaps of fun. I believe your centre of gravity was too far back making it stall and you needed to move the battery pack further forward. Yes the undercariage is too weak but still an amazing rc plane for $100

Watched your video, and what you're doing your tips stalling but if you would have lessened the throws on on everything, then it would be fine XK needs to send them out with the minimum throws because new pilots were prone to large transmitter stick movements and that's where the plane is having trouble keeping it level it's just a tip stall

Hey, thanks for this review! Where I live, I found someone selling this beautiful plane for very cheap. But I see that the plane is flawed. Would cancelling the rudder completely fix the problem? I observed your video of crash, it was a tip stall caused by the smaller cornering radius than the win can support the lift. The plane flew too slow and you could misjudge it’s floating force. No, the cornering radius of the J3 is far bigger than you thought. Even if you have a big RC version of J3, you will also have this problem. It is the aerodynamic, it is beyond what FC can do.
@tungym
@tungym Жыл бұрын
Echo what you said. The rudder travel has been set too much (factory setting too agressive). Even my 2m glider will stall if rudder input is too much at slow speed. It is simply the character of each plane's aerodynamics is different. But I agree that most beginner has some sort of expectation ( even for cheap stuff).

@@tungym Nothing wrong with both of you in your general analysis of slow flight stalling. This will do that easily with its high wing loading. But it is the flight control glitch shown by "Props and Wheels" in his bench test that really condemns this little yellow turd!

@theoztreecrasher2647
@theoztreecrasher2647 7 ай бұрын
@@monitosmarketing9733 Because you are commenting at this late date, it is assumed that you have just bought your XK A160? If so then yours will almost certainly be the v2 version. Check the writing on the flight board - it should be marked "A160 R2" AND have 2 satellite receiver sockets. This new version DOES NOT have the "auto crash" programming glitch in the flight board firmware that the first version did. However the plane still suffers from all the other defects of the original design. (Too heavy for its wing area, a bit tail-heavy, easily deformed motor to prop adapter, brittle plastic fittings, needs to be flown fairly fast and turned slowly to avoid stalling etc.) Limiting the rudder travel is good but disconnecting it is bad, since that means that you will need more aileron inputs to turn leading to more stalls. Gentle coordinated turns at higher speed is best.
@jasoncurrie475
@jasoncurrie475 3 жыл бұрын
Not a failure, the tip stalls are due to the throws being too large if you lessen the throws on that ailerons as well as the rudder and move the receiver board into not away from the rods the metal rods that control the elevator and the rudder you won't have any more tip stall issues as a matter of fact I clear coated mine with Rust-Oleum gloss clear coat so mine is a whole lot heavier and I done those three things moving the receiver antenna and less than the throws on my ailerons and the rudder and I've had zero tips stall issues it flies and moderate wind the only thing I'm having trouble with is trying to learn how to take off I hand launch it but I can land just fine
@SunriseRCAviator
@SunriseRCAviator 3 жыл бұрын
It is a failure when the flight controller holds the rudder fully in one direction after input even after release of the rudder input. That's why it went into a spiral stall. I do push most of my RC planes to see when they stall to get to know the limits and the XK A160 doesn't work as it should. I've never seen this in any other plane. Sure I could have reduced the servo movement but that would have left me with a very limited airplane and frankly some airplanes aren't worth to fight.

Weight and balance issues need to be corrected before first flight !! Also the function of ALL the controls need to be thoroughly checked before first flight, that means smooth control movement - not sticking - control surfaces need to be flexed and easy to move ( servos disconnected from control surfaces ) Aileron differential needs to be mechanically setup via servo arm position and control horn on aileron. I watched this video and many like it, and decided not to buy this plane. After a while its good looks got the better of me and I bought it anyway in hopes they'd improved it and addressed the tip stall and other flight issues. To my pleasant surprise it does appear to be the case. It isn't great build quality (still hard to assemble wings and I broke one of the turning keys that pin the wings down) and I couldn't tell you how it flies compared to other planes, but the rudder does appear to have an extremely limited range of movement, though there have been zero tip stall issues and each of the many crashes have been entirely my fault. Over all I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to another beginner wanting a good looking plane with good features for not much money.

Right the plane needs to be properly setup and balanced you need at least 200-300 yards to fly it comfortably because sudden turns will tip stall it. DO NOT fly it in mode 1 the elevator is added automatically as throttle is added in mode 1 which leads to stalls when you go to power out of the stall it adds more elevator. You have to set the elevator level for mode 2 on the controller and it will fly perfectly

I can confirm that this works. Also make sure the elevator is level in mode 2 when neutral by adjusting the control rod. Coat the plane with minwax polycrylic to protect the finish and add rigidity. Tape around the nose cowl where it meets the fuselage. Add a dab of hot glue where the gear attaches to avoid repairing it later after a hard landing.

This plane has a heap of faults (FAR too heavy for wing area, tail-heavy as supplied, all the plastic bits far too brittle, plastic motor to prop adapter easily deformed causing the prop to buzz and further upset the gyros, etc) BUT the real killer is shown in the video mentioned elsewhere here (by Props and Wheels) - the flight controller slams the rudder hard over unexpectedly at times. Placing the plane aerial as suggested WILL give you more range BUT that is not the problem as can easily be shown by the simple test of turning off the Tx at the bench. Getting on your horse and checking the maximum control range is something that everybody does with a new toy before launching it anyhow surely? The stabilization system only affects the ailerons on this model. What everyone’s problem is this plane comes with the elevator setup for beginner mode The elevator goes up automatically as throttle is added in this mode. When switching to 3D mode the elevator goes up to about 15-20 degrees nose up automatically so you have to adjust the elevator control rod to get the elevator level in 3D mode (blinking light mode on controller). Because flying in beginner mode the elevator is added automatically as throttle is added when you go to power out of a stall you stall it more. So set the elevator to level in 3D (full control mode) no coordination with the rudder The battery also needs to be full forward to get the cg correct. Also the receiver antenna should be relocated to go through the grill to avoid interference from the control rods. Adding a dab of hot glue where the landing gear attaches before the first flight will save you from wrecking it on the first rough landing. Use 40-70% throttle in level flight. Very easy imports into the controller I’ve had the exact same experience with mine before I resolved these issues. I’m on my second one now and I really like it

Judging by how slow this plane has been flown successfully after swapping in a different radio system, I'd say the "tip-stall" theory is no longer a viable cause. Definitely a radio issue. Example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6quiGptpbaqosU I still think it is caused by mounting the gyro-fitted radio so far aft in the plane's tail cone and not near the C/G and center of rotation. NOBODY does that, but Xk did so they could add a detailed cockpit right where the receiver should be. Both of my A160s have Spektrum radios in them now.

@@SunriseRCAviator It's actually a fine airplane on it's own. Just a messed-up stabilization system. Instead of trashing it, swap in a more reliable radio system. I have 2 that I am doing this to from the start, and GroundControlRC did so with a non-gyro receiver and enjoys the plane now. I have not proved it, but I feel the problem is in the rearmost mounting location of the receiver . RX's with gyros must be mounted near the center or gravity (C/G) and the center of lift and rotation to detect motion correctly and produce the correct control surface motions. When I saw the RX in the tail section I was floored and immediately suspected this was the source of the problem. Who made that decision? These gyros detect rotation around the axis's as well as linear motion vertically and laterally (called "6G" by some). With the gyro sensor so far back from the center of mass the sensor is also experiencing vertical motion with pitch changes and lateral motion with yaw. It appears to me that they made this compromise so that it could have a uncluttered cabin for detail, but as you see it may have been a bad choice. The control algorithms are being confused by the extra motion inputs. I suggest you un-trash the plane and use it as a test mule to try solutions. Moving the receiver to the cabin floor area would be my first suggestion. I bet it solves the gyro-glitch issue This is where I am putting my receivers (I fly DSMX protocol). If I can acquire a crashed and beat A160 that is still flight worthy then I will try the RX relocation solution myself. It's still theory at this point, and I don't want to attempt the experiment with a plane still in near-new condition, just-in-case. Hence the need for a rough example. The theory makes sense though. Every other gyro-fitted bird I have flown or just witnessed has the gyro sensor near the G/C and center of rotation. Love your videos. Happy flying!

This plane is marketed to be easy to fly in an RTF package. Clearly the intended buyer is a beginner and with that in mind this plane is a total failure to me. As any plane offered to a beginner it should have a low wing load but the A160 have a very high wing load making it difficult to fly slow. Any beginner needs a good handling plane when it comes to flying slow. Then there's the faulty flight controller that with to rapid input on the rudder locks the rudder in extended position resulting in most often a crash. You don't know how the flight controller will influence flying prior to flying it. You can guess at best. Then there's the durability and a beginners RC plane should be durable and survive better at least than when crashing the A160. The landing gear assembly and wing struts takes one look and you know they will brake more or less the first time you have a rough landing. Just look at the Eachine mini warbirds that get it right in all of the above examples and it's clear the A160 is a badly designed plane and especially so for a beginner. Even more experienced pilots have crashed theirs so the bad flying capabilities is something of the plane more than the pilot. I have flown more than a hundred different planes ranging from beginner planes to advanced planes and this plane is in my experience in the bottom of all planes. I only share my experiences with the planes I purchase so if this plane works for you great. To me it's just rubbish and should be avoided when there are so many other much better planes to choose from.

Vy jste dal do křídel tohoto malého letadélka kovové šrouby? Těžiště by chtělo asi alespoň malinko dopředu - proto ta vývrtka. Raději než vyhodit to dejte někomu, kdo má pro to cit, opraví si to a bude létat. Reportáže umíte dělat velmi sugestivně, smutné, to vám jde.

@@SunriseRCAviator Metal parts have a big impact on such a small model - every gram makes a difference. They increase the weight, speed and fall - crash characteristics of the aircraft. Even when I saw the huge, relatively heavy servos in the wings, I could see how it would fly. Nice little thing, but not for beginners at all. They wanted to make something small that was also attractive for transport and material savings, and this is how it turned out. The struts have a big effect on air resistance. Fly something bigger and lighter (area load) in still winds on a large flat area with no obstructions or anything to distract your attention. Good luck!

@@protiterorustatu1104 The metal parts I put in had no real weight difference and it's a well documented problem with the flight controller that is the cause of most problems. Not to mention this plane is just to heavy for what it is and parts are of poor quality. The struts are in fact very poor as is the landing gear assembly. So I can't see why anybody would purchase this plane when there are so many other good planes to choose from. If you are happy with yours that's great but I have higher expectations on an RC plane.

@@SunriseRCAviator Hello, I don't want to argue with you. Just please explain to me: when you switch on the model on battery power, is the model absolutely still (even afterwards)? I'm concerned about the correct calibration of the electronic stabilizer. I noticed on youtube more of these spins or spirals, they were very unexpected. If maybe the problem is this. In any case - the plane was made by Chinese friends to be liked and thus sold, at the expense of flight characteristics.
@SunriseRCAviator
@SunriseRCAviator 2 жыл бұрын
@@protiterorustatu1104 As the battery hatch is underneath once the hatch is closed the model can be put level and still. But this takes a few seconds and on all other gyro stabilizes planes I've tried it doesn't matter if you put it level and still right away or wait until you've closed the hatch/battery door. There are other youtubers that also concluded the malfunction of the flight controller when giving full rudder inputs so it appears this is a built in fault. Maybe they have done something to improve upon this but I seriously doubt it as this is a toy plane compared to hobby grade planes with better and replaceable parts. I guess as long as you keep up speed and more or less don't use the rudder this fault might never show. I don't have the plane anymore but I did consider to give it a seconds try and get another one but I concluded there are so many other much better RC planes to look at so I decided not to. It's sad that this great looking plane doesn't work as good as it looks and I bet many others have experienced similar results and regretted their purchase. I've also seen others rip out the electronics and putting a better receiver inside so with some tinkering it can probably work in a good way.
