The very last song on The Loop before they switched to Christian - Highway To Hell
@Poeticphyre6 жыл бұрын
Great. Just great. Another iconic radio station in Chicago is gone. I'm pissed. I loved the Loop and everything they did there. I loved the music they played there. Great. Now where are we going to get our classic rock from now? First we lose Q101 to the news now we lose the Loop to a Christian station. And what gets me it that that station already exists at 94.3. I can only hope and pray that the Loop will be reborn as a new station in the future. Before anyone says anything: I know there's the Drive but I feel the Drive isn't as much rock as the Loop was.

I hear ya. I know the feeling. Lots of Chicago natives who now live out here in Arizona very familiar with the Loop whenever I mentioned it.

To.all the Chicago people out there. As an Arizonan I can understand, and relate to this political situation. Our long time Rock Radio Station 93.9 KDKB Rocks Arizona got sold to an Alternative Radio station Atl AZ 93.3 5 years ago. I still hold onto positive memories growing up a fan as a kid. So should you. Especially the Remarkable Mouth Radio Station model Lorelei Shark. Aww a clsssic lip synch who paved the way for other lip synch commercial models. Chi-Town isn't the same without The Loop. Still Rock Onto Memories.

Rock radio is sadly dying in America. Stations like WLUP in Chicago and WAAF in Boston are gone forever, and once iconic and legendary stations like WDVE in Pittsburgh, WEBN in Cincinnati, and WMMS in Cleveland are now mostly automated iHeartRadio-owned crap. KSHE in St. Louis, WRIF in Detroit, and 97 Rock WGRF in Buffalo are pretty much the only major classic or mainstream rock stations left in the country worth listening to, in my opinion.

Steve Dahl was actually with WDAI (today WLS-FM) before going WLUP-FM and blowing Disco records which was a protest against WDAI's format flip to a Disco centric format.

ir10031981 thank you for the amazing suggestion! I don’t live anywhere near the El Paso area, so I listen to that station online. And let me just say, it reminds me. OF The classic rock stations from Wayback When. they have a huge playlist of songs from the late 60s through the late 80s. Heck, I even heard Elvis on this station One time!

This is so upsetting. All I ever listen to is WKQX and the Loop. I went to media school and learned from these stations, I've even performed magic for these guys and girls. When q101 rebranded to q955 it there was a very loose format. Even our current WKQX station also run by Cumulus media doesn't match how 101.1 was. Yeah you have to adapt with the time but Chicago has so many stations through different companies why the the Loop out of all of them? I grew up rocking out with mom and dad to it, I'm not going to bash any genres but we have too many top 40 formats. I'm 22, saying I'm still young for the demographic. But I just sat in the basement with friends playing guitars and learning these songs. It's sad because there is an educational standpoint to it. Just listen to a rock song and hear it all the drums, the chords, the various instruments. It's sad to see it go

It's 2022, 101.1 WKQX HD-2, calling it "The Loop" is still horrible. Cumulus just cares about retaining the name (The Loop) and marketing, hoping to bring it back someday on another station they can buy when they get out of debt. The music is the same 250 songs over and over. If Cumulus was smart, they would have sold the name, marketing, and WLUP call sign to iHeart, and let them move "The Loop" to 95.5. Cumulus will never find a good solid FM to use for The Loop, of course unless they decide to change WKQX to the WLUP call sign. Cumulus has the WLUP call sign "parked" at a Cumulus Owned Station in Cambridge, Minnesota. It's called "Love 95" and it's format is Adult Contemporary. This is not the first time Cumulus has pulled this off before. I hope everyone realizes Cumulus never owned the 97.9 frequency allocation. They only had a Lease Management Agreement with former owner Merlin Media. Rumor has it K-Love is now one of the biggest broadcast corporations in the Country, next to iHeart and Audacy.

I admit I think the Loop isn't what it once was. I can remember The Loop player a little more variety of the classics then WCKG which was all classic rock. However I'm somewhat sad to see it go but so far I haven't found out is why it's happening? Aren't there enough people listening and if so why would this happen?

Low ratings and a repetitive 50 song playlist.The same 50 songs over and over and over and over for the last 25 years.Got boring.
@MIKECNW6 жыл бұрын
Well I mentioned there was a time they played a little more and while I don't wanna doubt what you say about a limited playlist, are you sure that contributed to it? When those changes happen there's a reason. I've even heard those say if play something different, people will turn the station off.
