Music in the background is "Carouselambra" by Led Zeppelin, from their 1979 LP "In Through the Out Door".

goodness gracious I miss the days when ladies had big curly hair like that.. even though this was a bit before my time I still remember as a kid seeing girls in the 80s with big hair kinda like that. I still love that look!!

Wmet was the best Rock station in Chicago for a few years. i remember one of thier things was playing whole Lp sides at a certain time of the day. they played deeper cut s sometimes. now Classic rock stations sound like they have the same ten songs ad nausem.

Is it strange that over the course of time, older footage/images seem more current than those from later? For example, looking at footage from late 90s/early 2000s seems oddly dated to me, even though it was recently. Then I look at these videos from my childhood(80s, even late 70s), and it seems less dated, though more nostalgic. I know this sounds weird, just wondering if anyone else experiences the same.

Quality of home videotape and VCRs in the 90s and beyond was pretty bad. Usually those recordings look terrible compared to 70s or early 80s recordings.

Finally somebody that has my same feelin' and it's not only about TV, I feel the same with a lot of pop culture. For example 'Jumanji' (one of few post '93 movies that I like) seems more dated than 'Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade'. Or another example: the IV generation Camaro seems more dated than the III gen Camaro! I don't know why but '70s and '80s, even if they are clearly from a distant past, they are so fresh, most of the things since 1991 seem so dated, old, blank and bleak... I'm studyin' the last 50 years to discover why...

I think it’s because the ‘90s haven’t hit a retro phase yet. At one time the ‘80s seemed really cheesy and outdated too, but over the last 15 years or so the ‘80s look has become cool again and younger people are starting the adopt it for the first time. The ‘90s might have a resurgence some day or they may not, we won’t know about that bridge until we cross it. And, like The Museum said, the quality of the recordings definitely play a roll.

My knowledge of Album Rock would not exist if it wasn't for WMET. From AC/DC to Van Halen. Classic rock like the Stones and Zeppelin. My life is richer for it. From 1981 to 1985. I was a music Jedi. The only DJ I can remember was Scott McConnell.

95.7 WQMF out of Louisville used a very similar commercial a few years later when it came online. It is now 96 WQMF and not quite as good as it was in the '80s but a hell of a lot better than it was ten years ago when it had a 25 hour rotation on its music.

Lorelei is "the girl with the remarkable mouth" from the classic LOOP commercials. WMET was their competitor back then. I remember seeing this during my sophomore year of high school, and there was a media column that mentioned this girl's name. Best I can remember is it was Kristin or something like that.

Until 1985-86 or thereabout. Their metal DJ, Scott Loftus, went to a brokered low-power station and started RPM: Real Precious Metal, then went to full-power WAUR and played hair metal weeknights from 6p-12a.
