This was in fact from the wee hours of February 11. Yuri Andropov had died two days before, and the NBA scores were all from Feb. 10.

@@wmbrown6 The NHL season would have been at or near the All-Star Break. And some teams we currently have were not yet thought of.

The wee hours of April 12, 1984, to be precise. And furthermore, Happy 😁 Mardi Gras!

Actually, I think it's earlier than that.

@@chasebakerofthe209- It is earlier. As in, early morning hours of February 11. The NBA scores are the key (all were finals from Feb. 10). Also, Yuri Andropov died Feb. 9, and his burial was on Feb. 14.

The signoff video was recorded in the summer of 1981 because August 8th was on a Saturday. The sign is at 14:23 and 15:39 is the 1981 Ford LTD because the sideview mirrors got smaller and the word FORD in uppercase letters above the grille.

WNEW was independent until the spring of 1986. The station changed it's call sign to WNYW and became an affiliate of FOX. My favorite WNEW movie feature was Drive In Movie with rhese now classic kung fu movie.

Didn't Metromedia own the station?
