These video game commercials were shown during the “Video Game Crash of 1983”. Colecovision was a decent console, but the Atari 2600 was still riding high, and the Atari 5200 was a huge failure. There were a bunch of Tyco racing sets and action figures along with toys that were made by LJN including “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Fortress of Fangs” which was a play set made by LJN, and these pre-dates the NES games made by LJN. Thanks to the AVGN, this was years before LJN got into video games with many of the games released for the NES in 1987 and these were absolutely bad. Mega-Blasters by Matchbox was okay, but it was dangerous when it causes a fire hazard. It pops like a firecracker on a 4th of July. 14:25 is a commercial for Colorforms Heads and it was a complete ripoff of Mr. Potato Head. This was Coleco’s only attempt at Mr, Potato Head.

Awesome set of ads here. Back when WNEW was THE indie station in New York. They showed movie specials like this for a few years on the Friday after Thanksgiving! But there was something about SUPER FAST SUPER BLAST MEGA BLASTERS right?!
